Yeah, I know. I liked the idea of what Goodell wanted to do, but he isn't being nearly consistent enough.

I agree with this. Favre has been all over the map this year. Warner has been pretty consistently awesome. He's a had a couple weeks with tons of turnovers, but he overcame the majority of them with 350+ yds and multiple TD's. He's averaging almost 24 points per game in my league.

So everyone, what's your take on the whole Favre to Jets deal now, with the season coming to an end? Was it worth it? Is Rodgers a sufficient replacement for Farve in GB? If the Jets bothered to add talent to their roster while Chad was there—instead of Mangini hanging him out to dry for a season—would they be just as good?? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5047 Pennington http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7200 Rodgers http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/1025 Favre Season stats for each of the three guys. Before you debate, some interesting notes: • Pennington, Mr. Supposedly No Arm Strength, has the highest yards per pass at 7.9 (Favre is 6.9, Rodgers is 7.2). He also has the lowest amount of INTS (6) and has no fumbles lost. To compare, Favre has 14 INT and 10 fumbles, 2 of which were lost. ROdgers has 7, and lost 3. • Rodgers has 20TD and 11INT, leads the three with just under 2900yds passing. Lowest completion % at 63.6. Also has 4 rushing TDs. Pennington has 1, Favre has 0. • Favre has 20TD and 14INT, and leads the three with 68.7 completion percentage. His stats were also incredibly padded against the Cards, where the Jets blew out Arizona, and kept laying it on in the fourth. He finished with 6TD that day, 3 coming in the 2nd half when the Jets were up by 30+. Mangini's offense also thrives on short timing routes, so the completion % is a little deceptive.

So do the other two teams. Rodgers is proving to be just fine in Green Bay. Their problems are not being caused by Rodgers, it's the rest of the team--namely the defense. Pennington would not be doing any better in New York this year, than he was last year. It's the same offense. What did they add, Dustin Keller? He has good stats for a TE, but Favre is essentially working with the same 11 guys that Pennington was working with last year. The difference between the two is that no one in the league respects Pennington's ability to pass the ball, mostly because he isn't that good. They can, therefore, stack the box to play against the run more often, giving Thomas Jones and co no room to run. The reason the Jets have been able to open up running lanes is because of the threat of a deep play action pass. Favre adds a different dynamic to an offense just with his presence, and it's something that you can't see in the stat lines. So, while Favre helps to open up running lanes for the Jets, the Dolphins have relied on trickery to open up passing opportunities for Chad Pennington this year. Pennington's statistics are not impressive to begin with (He only has 11 TDs, which you conveniently did not mention. It's like saying Favre has 20 TDs this year, and ignoring that he also threw 14 INTs), but they result, in my opinion, mostly from the offensive scheme, and not from personal ability. Pennington has been good this year, but he's not a dynamic quarterback, and he's not the kind of guy that can carry the team to victory. The biggest improvement in Miami this year is their defense, and that's why they've won seven games. It has very little to do with Pennington; this is just another case of the quarterback getting more credit than he deserves.

![]() Anyway, about short passing, Miami maybe, but Pennington's 7.9avg shows that they mix it up. GB definitely airs it out a lot more than the other two in the couple games that I saw. (I'm near NY, so I have the misfortune of seeing every damn Jets game =[ ) The main difference I've noticed in Favre's games is that the Jets are now more apt to throw it deep WHENEVER, instead of when they need to. But still, that's not the main reason for their new success (though it's definitely a part) Also, he's definitely got more to work with. Damien Woody and Alan Fanaca were huge pick ups that solidified their line. They let up 53 sacks last year, and have 23 to date now. So they're gonna have roughly half of what they did last year. Plus, the two rookies (Mangold and Dbrick) are now a year more experienced. Maybe he wouldn't have as many TD's, but I certainly think Pennington could have had a successful season in NY this year with this team. You're definitely right about the Fins having a much better defense this year. Same with the Jets, too. That rookie CB (names outta my head now) is huge, and Kris Jenkins was a steal. I thought Mangingi was an assclown (well, I still do think he is) for sending away Vilma. The dude was trying to take a 4-3 team and turn it 3-4. He finally found his NT though, and it's working really well. I have no idea why GB sucks so bad now. Their D was awesome last year, and shit the bed this year. Iunno, I'm just sick of the 24.7 BJ that Favre's receiving from local media for not doing anything spectacular.

Iunno, I'm just sick of the 24.7 BJ that Favre's receiving from local media for not doing anything spectacular. Then it counts as an omission in my books. You're expecting that most people won't follow the links, and deliberately left out certain statistics, and you're pushing the idea that Favre is not the reason the Jets are doing so well, so to me it seems like an attempt to mislead people. In '06 they gave up 30 sacks (which is only 7 off of this year's total) all year, and Pennington still sucked. It wasn't the O line's fault, Pennington is just garbage. He is, relatively, having a far below average year. The Thomas Jones acquisition is helping them a lot this year, because he's better than what they had in '06 when Pennington last played a full season. But, I maintain the view that the running game would have been better even with a lesser quality back if the threat of the pass was even remotely present. Defenses can stack the box all day against Pennington because he can't really throw very far beyond the end of it. Favre adds something that Pennington never could add: the ability to go deep. I think it's the biggest reason that the Jets are doing so well this year, and the fact that they'll throw it deep whenever they want to just makes it all that more difficult for teams to stack the box. If the defense knew the Jets would only go deep in certain situations, they would have a much easier time predicting the next play; because they might go deep at any time, a defense is almost always guessing what's coming next. A guessing defense is a bad defense.
