Not true. They lost last time, and the incumbent won.

I still maintain my Manning trade was good on paper (his replacements were averaging more than he was right until they got injured -.-), but I've been absolutely slaughtered by underperforming players and injuries.
You don't trade Manning for two scrubs.... Terrible move. You have to ride Peyton's bad games out, because he's going to have a good one more often than a bad one.
I got so lucky in this years draft. I got Manning at #5 overall (which wasn't a great pick at first, but the rest of my team was performing so well, it didn't matter), then got Portis at #16. I got AJ the next round, and Boldin right after that. Then I got Cooley, and then Graham (I think), and then I don't know what order I went in. I ended up with a sick team though.

You don't have to ride anything out... I replaced Manning and outscored what he was producing with Orton and Schaub, and they likely would have kept that up throughout the season if they hadn't gotten injured (even one of them would have likely had 90% of Manning's output). I got a good running back in return, who happened to get injured soon after the deal was done. It's easy to say it was stupid to trade Manning, but when you are 0-3 and your top two backs have produced like 20 points through 3 weeks, you have to do something. Not my fault I got hosed on injuries.
And Willie Parker is hardly a scrub. -.-

In fantasy terms, Parker isn't exactly a top notch guy (assuming you have standard scoring)... His only really good year was in '06. He's a mid round pick, at best. He averages about 9 ppg (standard scoring), which is not worth a guy who averages nearly 20 a game. Hasselbeck was injured at the time of your trade, and had no timetable. You got really lucky that your other two QB's (which I don't understand why you have so many of them, unless you start two) started to perform well, because historically they're bad fantasy QB's only used when your starting QB is on a bye, then they ride the bench for the rest of the season (or the waiver list).
What you got was a mediocre fantasy back, and a mediocre QB for the most consistent fantasy QB's in the league (and one of the most consistent real-life QB's too). Even this year Manning is only three points off his all-time average, and it's only going to get better.
I'm trying to not be condescending or asshole-ish, so if I'm coming across that way I'm definitely not meaning to, and I apologize. I just think there were probably better moves you could have made (considering popular trends around fantasy football, like the fact that Chris Johnson and Steve Slaton were not drafted in most leagues, nor was Matt Forte. You could have grabbed any one of them off the waiver wire (and possibly all of them), and if you're in a league that allows mid-game transactions... well, I'd stop playing in that league, personally) instead of getting rid of the guy that's generally considered the #1 fantasy QB.
The way I view fantasy football is that if you don't draft really well, you need to work waivers really hard, and really fast. I built half of my team off of waivers this year (in my pay league, I haven't paid attention to the TL league because I missed the draft and ended up with a team I would not have drafted), and the same thing last year. Trades are really hard to get a good deal on unless you have a total sucker in your league.

Andre Johnson is my G. Best pick I ever made.

Yes that was the first time that it hasnt worked out since like 1932, i think its like 14 of the last 15 times it has been correct.

Hasselbeck wasn't injured. He was injured like 4 weeks later, after Engram and Branch had come back (and Branch got reinjured).
Chris Johnson and Matt Forte were both drafted in my league, Slaton was picked up by the guy who lost Brady immediately after he found out Brady was out for the year. The pickings at running back were terrible... even guys like Felix Jones and Tim Hightower were drafted. The next best guy to get picked up after Slaton was Deangello Williams (who I probably should have picked up, but I already had Stewart and he seemed like he was becoming the feature back).
Anyways, I still have a chance to win games because my wide receiver core is pretty strong (Colston, White, Avery, Bowe... yeah, someone was dumb enough to drop Colston), especially now that Parker is healthy, which seals what has been a gaping whole in my lineup. If the Ravens headcoach stops playing musical chairs and McGahee stops getting injured, I am set on RBs (like 7 weeks after I had hoped to be).
What really, really killed me was the Ravens and the Steelers acting coy. For example... 15 minutes before the game, I check McGahee's status... he's active and supposedly going to play. If I had checked like two minutes later (I did not have time to recheck), I would have read some garbage about him being "the emergency back." Willie Parker was supposedly fine after week 6, then doesn't play against the Bengals. It didn't really help that this was during bye weeks where I had limited bench space to work with... -_-
To make matters even worse, Ray Rice reemerged as the backup to McGahee. So McClain is nearly useless. Ugh. Stupid injuries.
Anyways, Parker looked like he was back Monday, so that is good news for me. And the Steelers. The fact that Big Ben is banged up might mean they even hand the ball off to Parker more... they seemed to be using Moore mostly in passing situations (yay).

Hasselbeck was out after week 5, but he's been injured all year. Not to mention he hasn't had a single target to throw to since week 1.
That's stupid to drop Colston. There has to be a garbage player to drop on any roster besides Colston... you just don't drop your studs... dumb move by whoever did that.
Chad Johnson and Braylon Edwards are both available in my league. I'm trying to get Edwards, because something tells me that he's in for a huge game soon. I don't see many more good things out of Chad, but I'm really happy that he had a bigger game this week, because Braylon might get overlooked because of that.
I'm debating picking up Ray Rice for a week, too, because I have Slaton/Forte this week against two of the top five rushing defenses (Baltimore/Tennessee, respectively).

Oh man, lol
On paper, my team isn't bad. It's just that when one has a good week, the rest of my starters shit the bed and then roll around in it to really make a mess of things.
I'd get rice, I really really like him as a runner. McGahee's beat up like hell.
And yeah, in my league, even backups were getting picked. Slaton was out there, but not forte or jones.
Is hightower now the starter or what??
|
Urk... Ray Rice will probably do pretty well. Someone got to him before me and got 17 points last week (mixed signals from the Ravens yet again -.-). I figure whatever I do, I am more or less screwed when it comes to the Baltimore running game. Unless McGahee actually gets healthy.
Braylon might blow it up this week... Derek Anderson is finally getting benched. The problem is it is hard to say how much of Braylon's issues were Anderson's fault. Cleveland's offensive line has looked miserable, which led to rushed, inaccurate passes, which lead to Braylon dropping a lot of questionable passes. He also dropped some catachable ones too. If I had to use him though, this week against Denver is probably when I would.
Ocho Cinco is garbage... and the Bengals are worse than the Browns. But one has to think he isn't as bad as he has been playing.
Hightower is the feature back now. Edge got a big fat 0 carries.

I hope Brady Quinn plays well, I've been wanting a reasonable QB since week one (yes I was the unlucky bastard who drafted Tom Brady); been juggling Gus Ferotte / Jeff Garcia / JT O'Sullivan (lol).
Our league is so quick on picking up good players, however I managed to snap up Jamaal Charles which I reckon could be an awesome move (almost as good as when I grabbed Owen Daniels from FA (which was total fluke because Shockey was injured) xD)

Fux. My Bengals let me down. This was supposed to be the year we go .000!
foooook

Braylon has dropped SO many catchable balls, it's insane. It's not like they were all overthrows that he tipped and madden was like 'BLUB BLUB IF IT HITS YOU IN THE HANDS, YOU GOTTA CATCH IT, BLUB, MORE STICK UM'
It's odd, cuz he was ridiculous last year.
|
I think Braylon's lack of conditioning killed him early in the season. He also had problems with timing coming off his injury. Then Anderson threw enough crappy passes to keep his timing messed up for quite some time. Last year he would have made a ridiculous play and catch the ball, but the timing and conditioning issues prevent him from doing it this year.
Also, the Browns rack up like 9 penalties a game, almost all on the offensive line. The amount of series they have killed with this is unreal. Even against the Giants they were a sliver away from giving the Giants a chance to come back, but Anderson kept making good throws under pressure.
Edit: Watching the highlight reel from the Browns' past game, he made some pretty good catches (especially the touchdown one). So he might be on his way back. Of course, I have no idea how many passes he dropped. Oh wait, he dropped a long bomb he had caught... hahaha. Okay, so maybe he needs a few more weeks. That last interception Derek Anderson threw was so horrible... I can't believe it took them so long to get rid of him.

i started steven jackson and mcgahee this past week after reading they were both going to be active and playing.
i got 1 point.

haha my first two picks were jackson and mcgahee in the TL league. how was i alone in first place up until this past week

Yeah... I started Fargas against Atlanta. Pretty good matchup, right? He got like 6 carries and they had 1 first down. They had 77 yards of total offense.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by Braylon's drops. He dropped 17 last year. Which is less than he's on pace for this year, but it's not like he hasn't had his issues.
I think DA got the shaft in Cleveland. He was just the fall guy. You can't blame him for having no one to throw the ball to. Stallworth and Joe Jeurevicious (SP) have been out all year, Kellen Winslow has had health issues for a large part of the year, and Braylon can't catch the ball.I doubt that very much will change when Quinn comes in, though I hope everything goes well for him in his second week (Broncos fan), as I'm a huge Brady Quinn fan (ND fan).
Hall will get a new job pretty quickly. I hope Asomugha goes into FA this season and the Broncos or Bears snatch him up. That'd be sick.
Al Davis is reportedly thinking about bringing in someone to help with personnel decisions this off season. Something needs to be done in Oakland; Davis thinks it's still 1968.

did anyone watch quinn play tonight? by the numbers he looked pretty good just cleveland's defense is a complete failure...

Yeah, he played really well overall. It wasn't his fault at all on the last play; the ball went right through Winslow's hands. It was basically the same thing that happened to DA, though. The numbers didn't lie at all.
