And which leagues would that be?
And no to all 3 of those for being good at SC2.

Every pro league, starting from IHCS2,IDEC,PRIDE,you name it. And why no to the 2nd statement?

two completely different styles of games.

Because none of those players have skill sets appropriate for an actual RTS game. Puppey's mechanics are pretty shitty along with his decision-making, Demon's the opposite but lack strategic foresight and sometimes overplays a simple situation to his detriment, Maelk isn't the best at mechanics either but reads situations very well. Out of the 3, I would say Demon has the best chance to actually do well, but I wouldn't give a chance to the other 2 to play at a high level.
Like Select and Babyknight can do well simply because the skill set is there along with the talent, none of the 3 share their skill sets. Select makes multi-tasking look easy and Baby is just so effortless and smooth with his play and execution like rarely do you see struggle/frustration in his play.
And why list yourself as semi-comp, if you were in all those leagues (from the start), you're pretty much comp at this point.

So I tried getting my friend to play HoN the past couple days....We've run into a couple problems. xD
So he's NEVER played a game with a control system like HoN, as in, the camera controls are separate from your dude, he's never even played a click to move game.....
He has about 25-30 apm, has no idea wtf is going on ever, and does things like FORGETS HE IS A RANGED HERO 10 MINUTES INTO THE GAME.
This is difficult, why is HoN to hard to teach to somebody who has no fucking clue how to play it....
Should I just get him to play LoL first or something? Like, he's just BAD.....I don't know what to do. I sit behind him and tell him what to do, like "stand behind the creeps dude! wtf WHY ARE YOU GETTING HIT BY CREEPS, WTF ARE YOU DOING, dude you've had a lvl for 2 minutes and you haven't skilled up your q, DUDE PRESS RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR."
So far I decided plaguuuuuuuuuuuu is a good hero for him. He's gotten two double taps.
I don't think I'll ever get him good T.T

What if you had him play something like Diablo 2 first (just have fun and play with him through normal difficulty or something) so that he gets used to click-to-move style of play? Other than that I dunno, it's just gonna take a lot of time as it sounds like he doesn't have any innate talent for gaming.
|
the weird thing is he plays games all the time, he's actually pretty good at CS and the like. But his brain is just so.....I dunno dude, he's like smart as fuck and crazy good at really high level math, but his brain just like...shuts off when he's not doing school or some shit. He says there is WAY to much going on that he has to think about in HoN, whereas in something like CS its just "oh hey, kill that fucker"
The Diablo 2 idea is pretty good, since ya he hasn't ever played that. He can play Dragon age origins just fine, and he's really good at driving games. I guess this is just a completely new world of gaming for him.
And all I can do to help is sit behind him and yell at him to do shit that he doesnt even understand.
Oh well, I'm having fun. And he seems to be having a great time failing hard, so I think we might make a little progress

Thanks for the NS interview.
When I first learned how to really play the game I studied him and jolie the most, then other russians. RUSH3D was such a good team.
Steveling, some dota players are good at sc2 and some are bad. There are a few mid-level NA players who are grandmasters league now [ giX, desrow ] and then of course babyknight, xeqtr, and select although the last 2 are famous for other cs/dow.
|
let him play plague rider mid. mid is the easiest lane for learning coz it has a simply overfew.. 3 less heroes you have to worrie about, and with lvl 6 you get usally (vs bad players) a hero kill with plague.

I don't think I'll ever get him good T.T Just leave him playing for a while. It will take 20-25 games of hon for him to get used to the system, and probably 10 for each hero he wants to learn after that. (This is the road to becoming like a 1300 player lol).
Playing other games doesn't really help. Maybe a roguelike? LoL and HoN are very different, even as far as techniques for lasthitting.

Hey guys,
I'm new to the whole DoTA scene and I'm currently looking for some friendly people to play with. You will have to understand how much of a noob I am, and hopefully you won't get frustrated. If you would like to play please respond to this post or message me on my person, Moosecaboose. Maybe we could jump in vent or something and you could give me a few pointers every now and then. Right now I'm playing the hero SKeleton King just beause, from what i have been told, he is the most easy to play! Get back to me please, I'm bored of playing by myself! :
Edit: Installing HoN right now as well! Name will be, Perkypenguin

PerkyPenguin unfortunately if you don't have a close friend or at least someone who's played with you for many years via internet,I doubt someone will go out of their way to teach you. Just because dota has a freaking huge learning curve, even the nicest people will want to murder you after some days. Two ways to compensate for that. 1) Either hook up with more noobs and play it out or 2) Don't be afraid to ask what you do wrong in a game, and don't talk back when someone is trying to help you.
Now I never was familiar with the NA league scene, but I think TDA was the first place to go,for some organised yet relaxed games. Another starting place is dota-league,you can search these two out,see if they fit your needs.

Unfortunately this is very true, I had the fortune of playing with the same group of people for about a year every night when I first started. The only advice I can give is to listen to WHAT people are saying, if they are in fact saying something useful, and not HOW they say it.

Too bad 5-s can't farm Aegis for his entire team and drag a 20 min out to 90 mins any more.

Let's now talk about your life if you do not mind. What does NS do when he does not play DotA? (You are not allowed to say: I play LoL/HoN) Drinking vodka in garage most of the days, yeah. =)
lol
What was their first reaction when you received your first salary/prizemoney? Did they change their mind about gaming? ~_~
How much do DotA players even make lol
