Is anyone else in this forum into competitve laser tag? Where do you play if you are into it?
I play at the Ultrazone in San Diego. I play in leagues there regularly and have played in a few tournaments as well. I travel occasionally to play in arenas not in my hometown.
I know there are Ultrazones all up the west coast and they are beginning to spread through the rest of the country. There are a couple in Europe and I hear they\'ve got a decent network of them in Australia (Darkzone there I believe?)
But just curious if anyone else here is a serious laser tag player.

Wow, never knew they had that kind of shit. What skills does the average Laser Tag pro have that the average noob doesn't?

It certainly is much easier and more tame than paintball. I guess the only redeeming value it has is the cool blacklight fog machine effect. I mean, lazers are rad lookin streakin through the air in the dark.

woah wait what? people over the age of 12 play laser tag?

I've played in numerous tournaments at Laser Quest - 5-Man's, NAC (North American Challenge), etc. and it's actually really fun. Laser Quest is the best place for competitive Laser Tag and I promise you its fun.

That's not true of our area, most of us here like paintball and the staff and their friends play airsoft in the arena after hours. I like laser tag better because of the closer quarters and also because the formats you can program into the computer are very flexible as to what sort of things and formats you can have. the computer also keeps track of a lot of statistics in the game which otherwise would be difficult to do in paintball.

Well, with the older packs, prior to infusion, dodging other people's shots was a possibility that could be practiced. It can still be done now, but it's much more difficult, even for the pros. Precision and general awareness are important. The way you use the arena and its obstacles/walls. Developing strategies to attack other teams and to defend certain locations. And holding the gun correctly, most new players hold it shotgun style, which is horrible for mobility (and in leages considered cheating as it block your chest target). Skills also vary from format to format.
edit: the rate of fire is often modified to a slower rate at higher levels of play (1 shot/second) so that players don't just spam the trigger.

Most of the people who play are over 12. There are World Championships each year. The first World Champs was won by one of our teams here in San Diego. In august a bunch of us will be travelling to Australia to play in a series of events there over the course of a week or so.

What is the proper way to hold a gun while playing?

well, the way to hold it varies slightly from site to site. This is how we do it in San Diego:
You hold the gun right around your croths area (or above your head, personal preferences) to keep your chest target open. The is a sensor on the barrel of the gun, which needs to be covered. Put your left thumb over the sensor and wrap your fingers around the other side. You use your right thumb to fire the trigger. With your thumbs doing all the work you can easily flip the gun with your fingers to face either direction without moving any of the rest of your body.
My team is playing in a tournament tomorrow night, if I remember I'll take a picture of how we hold it and post it here. Much easier than explaining it.

Especially for the employees and their friends. But aside from that it isn't all that cheap, $6 for a fifteen minute game here. Some of the regulars here easily could blow $100 a week on laser tag.

Is the lazer in lazer tag like a flashlight or a bullet?

you know what i would like to try? Is the M.I.L.E.S(Multiple Integrated Lazer Engagement System) the militray uses. Its basicly a big ass game of lazer tag but they have full body sensors, and they even put them on tanks and stuff.

I consider starcraft and paintball a sport, NOT lazer fag
