Again if any of this even remotely true then said console is going to be 400+ dollars if not 500.

Which things in particular? The cost of upgrading the specs so that BotW could run in 4K at 60 FPS with basically zero load time? And ray-tracing, UE5, and other capabilities at the same level as the PS5 and newest Xbox gen? Imagine if it comes out for only $400, and then Sony and Microsoft players realize that they can just buy an affordable console that does everything their current console can do, and also can be portable. Usually, Nintendo successfully does its own thing while Sony and Microsoft fight over the same "more mature" / "more graphics-oriented" demographics (with Sony consistently beating Microsoft), but it would be pretty interesting for Nintendo to entice the Sony/Microsoft gamers by having all the new PlayStation/Xbox games available for the Switch sequel, basically operating just as smoothly as the other current-gen consoles, and playable as both docked and handheld.

The mystery surrounding March 2024 is certainly odd to me. I really hope that the sequel to the Switch isn't being released during that month; it's too soon for a substantial new library to be ready, and there's no rush at all. The current Switch is still doing very well, and the new games are still very popular. If something ends up happening in March 2024, I hope it's an announcement of the next Nintendo console and the tiniest teaser of a new 3D Mario game. The YouTubers were wondering what game should release with the Switch sequel, and Super Mario Odyssey 2 + Switch sequel being released as a bundle for 2024's holiday season would be a great move.

I think they care more about the Steamdeck than Sony/Microsoft.
If I want to play portable Skyrim, Sony/Microsoft don't help me, but the Steamdeck does, and for roughly 300 euros extra the graphical quality is much better than the Switch. Or so I read anyway, I don't own a Steamdeck lol.
The new Switch has to do better than the current one. I'm not saying it has to beat the Steamdeck. If it's still ~200 euros cheaper then I don't mind worse graphics. But it has to be better than what we get now.

The Steam deck isn't a serious competitor for either the current Switch or the sequel to the Switch, but I agree with you that the next-gen Nintendo console should be better than what we currently have.

The Steam deck has an advantage that I can play games from my Steam library but it also has the disadvantage that I can only play games from my Steam library. I was looking at it for a while but it is too expensive for me and I didn't hear good things about its battery life. The extra graphical quality comes with a price after all.

The difference in graphical quality is going to be highest when the current Switch is near the end of its life and the current Steam deck is near the beginning of its life, which is where we are right now. With a newer Switch and an older Steam deck, the difference is smaller. It's almost like a mid-cycle Switch refresh.

I don't think it's a competitor for the vast majority of the Switch's target customers.

I think a lot of other people have the same view, concerns, and conclusion as you do, in regards to the Steam deck, as sales for the Steam deck have been incredibly poor.

Today's Nintendo Direct was pretty good! My favorites: Super Mario RPG, Princess Peach Showtime!, SaGa Emerald Beyond, Battle Crush, Unicorn Overlord, Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Wargroove 2, and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remastered.

Princess Peach Showtime! looks really solid. A game where you play as Peach and have a variety of useful abilities, costumes, and transformations.

A lot of them are not really my type of games but I'm really looking forward to Unicorn Overlord. Retro style JRPGs/Strategy RPGs with weird names have been on a roll lately. Square Enix has been really good at it. Atlus and Vanillaware combo is a plus.

Mario RPG being a remake instead of a port is a plus. I'm not a big fan Mario fan but I'm definitely interested in it.

I just completed the free demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Switch. Definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Dragon Quest and/or Pokemon and/or monster-catching RPGs. Release date is December 1st, 2023.

If the most recent MS FTC leaks are anything to go by, they were apparently aware of the Switch successor sometime in 2022, with it supposedly being on par with PS4 Pro performance. With DLSS, it could well be capable of pushing somewhere above that ever so slightly in terms of output resolution. Rumours and leaks are increasingly coming out which make it seem like it'll be quite the leap for a handheld, though obviously nowhere near as powerful as the PS5 or a PC. Still in a handheld, and high likelihood of backwards compatibality, I know im pretty excited for it.

I hope they make another DQ builders game, my wife loved DQB2 and played it nonstop when she was forced into bedrest due to a pregnancy complications. Finished ALL of it in 3 weeks. She didn't like the DQB1 demo as much due to stuff they added in 2 that she missed (like farming), and she is super into builder type games.

She's burned out of stardew long ago, and didn't like AC. Wondering if anyone knows of any games that might be more like DQB2 that we could try (other than DQB1), feel free to drop me a rec It has to include some aspect of farming or she won't touch it. AC didn't actually have farming which is why she wasn't into it.

On the topic of the more recent direct: TTYD remake looks great, for sure will grab that to play through with my wife and daughter. We played it together while we were dating, so being able to replay it with our kid who will be almost 3 when it comes out, to read her the story as we go, that'll be super fun.

I'm not really into the super-chill, social/farm/life simulator games. The closest I got to that was Harvestella, which does have farming and a few other sim aspects, but is still primarily an action-RPG with heavy emphasis on combat (whenever you want to explore and adventure). I absolutely loved that game, although it's probably not quite what you're looking for, sorry!

I don't really care about pushing the graphics envelope. I just care about not having slowdowns on multiplatform games. And it has to last long enough to still get multiplatform games towards the end of its lifespan, since the PS6 will launch before the Switch 3. Slightly above PS4 performance should be enough for all the games I care about, for now.

Just started playing Cocoon. One of the most creative and interesting puzzle games I've ever played. Definitely my favorite indie game this year.

Borderlands3 hits the streets October 6th. Zero video exists of this title. I will have a hard time listening to complaints about this game when it comes out. Any one with even a modicum of street smarts has to realize the game is probably really bad.

I will give Gearbox and 2K Games credit for not deceiving consumers will fake footage though.

Really disappointed with Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai. Probably the worst Dragon Quest game I've ever played. Story is absolutely terrible, and the ARPG combat is basically just an auto-battler. Good graphics and the fact that it's a DQ game still weren't enough to get me to like it.

Borderlands3 turned out to be ok. They greatly diminished the # of surfaces/textures in game in order to get the game to work on the Switch. Particle effects and ragdolls are severely toned down as well. So it looks like its BL1 while playing like BL3. Given the limited resources of the Switch the game is solid.
