nothing like a patch to bring out a bunch of salty little pissants to bitch and complain. patch had zero impact on my three hours of gameplay today. still fun and met a few cool people today. going to go out tomorrow and its going to have zero impact on how much fun i have then too.

pokevision going down is probably much better for the game, and i used it a lot.

As I said, if you enjoy sitting at pokestops all day that's great for you.
Others actually wanted to interact with other players and Niantic is completely ruining this by enabling cheaters to do whatever they want and doing nothing about helping legit players.

But I'm just a salty little pissant, what do I know.

i dont sit at pokestops; thats the worst way to play this game.

It is the only way to play right now. You got to choose between:
-> Running around: Purely random what you find, rather bad spawn rate
-> Sitting around: Purely random what you find, good spawn rate
I mean, yes, you could run around. But it's worse in every regard. And that's why the patch has been a huge fuckup.

I agree that Pokevision should not be necessary. Unfortunately it is as long ad Niantic can't fix essential features of their game.

Running around makes NO sense without a working tracker. It's just a waste of time. You might find a rare Pokemon once in a while. But the chances to find a rare Pokemon while running is about 10 times worse than if sou just sit around 4-5 Lure Modules and wait. And yes, I still think Pokevision sucks; but it was literally the only reason to ever move your ass away from the Lure Modules.

I don't need the Footsteps, but the tracker has to work. But it doesn't. If you see a Pokemon on your tracker, there's always a decent chance the Pokemon already despawned or isn't even near you but since the tracker never updates might not be near you at all.
Basically: If a Pokemon is on your tracker, it might be nearby. Unfortunately that's not more likely than it being miles away or not even there at all.

Honestly to me them not punishing cheaters like gps spoofers and bots hurt the game more than anything else. I was talking to a guy last night that got all 146(including the region locked ones) from his desktop at home using programs in just a few days. Pretty fucking lame.

yeah i dont understand everyone crying about how cheaters arent being punished hard enough. this isnt a competitive game.
whether or not they have those pokemon makes literally no difference to your gameplay. if it makes you so salty do it yourself, otherwise just play the game for the semi-single player game it is.
the tracker being dead and pokevision going down also is another issue but i dont see this going on for long as niantic cannot possibly ignore everyone's thoughts on this forever.
other small things such as extra buttons, no quick throw, more text etc are small annoyances that really arent that big of an issue

how does that guy with 146 affect your game play?

Cause I have to compete with him for local gyms, we have organized tournaments and shit around here with real prizes, and the fact that he in a few hours at home can get a full team of 6 3k pokemon while I've had to walk over 150miles and take 2hour road trips, directly effects my game play.

how do you know the guy at your gym is a cheater?

organised tournaments for a game like this? with barely any competitive mechanics...incredibly poor balancing? not an idea environment.

anyone can defeat a gym even with 1k cp discrepancy...

look, i'm not trying to justify cheating. but i honestly don't think it has a big impact. i haven't seen any 3k pokemon and i live in sydney. i've defeated gyms with 2k+ with 1.3k pokemons. so not being able to take a gym is not because they cheat.

It's not about defeating gyms only. It's about having to walk 3km while some guy sits at his computer and just jumps there.

If you gps spoofed to the dratini nest before it switched you could get 2-3 2.8k+ dragonites in a day. I know this because i have a friend who took the drive and did it legit. I was going to road trip there myself saturday before the patch.

did you end up making that 3km walk or no?

i still do my daily walks, who cares if they are cheating, the pokemons are still there.

the worst part of the game is not being able to properly locate the pokemons, not because gps spoofers are taking over gyms with high cp (which you can defeat anyway)

Yea they really ought to fix the radar, without it there's little reason to go for a walk just to play - unless you were already going to go for a walk or looking to get more exercise - since you're better off camping pokestops.

I said it before but I think the battle system is going to hold this game back in the long run. I don't know about everyone else but I mostly just want to catch a bunch of strong pokemon. Once I've done that and the novelty has worn off I couldn't really care less about going around capturing Gyms. And I don't really buy the it's too complicated or alienates the average user thing; there are 8 year old who've mastered the gameboy pokemon battle system.

Does it really matter that the cheaters aren't being punished in a casual game? If it was a competitive game, I could see there being issues, but microtransactions are in the game and who cares if someone wants to track down Pokémon quickly without walking as much?

New PokeVision that I'm using:
https://github.com/mchristopher/PokemonGo-DesktopMap/releases/tag/v0.1.6

You have to run it on your own computer as a server though, but it works really well

But like someone said above it is semi-competitive; to some people it may be one of the best parts of pokemon go. If you want to compete in gyms you have to work hard to train your pokemon and evolve them. If a guy can do that on his computer in a day then it is fundamentally unfair and discouraging.

Then there are these weak counterrebuttals like "oh well if you're really good at finger-dodging you can beat a 1000 cp difference". Well its still clearly unfair and I imagine it can become grossly unfair if the CP differences grow larger and larger as they pump up their pokemon with stardust they gain from catching so many (at least I think that's how it works based on reading the OP - I only played Pokémon go for two minutes before deciding to never play it again lol).

And its also kind of weak to say just avoid those gyms. The fact that you have to avoid them (and to be clear, you would never have any idea which gym it was so you will always have this nagging feeling that you are playing against an unfair, artificially pumped up pokemon) is clearly a problem in and of itself. You wouldn't say "well just avoid the games where people hack on counterstrike, its not a big deal". To the extent that it is competitive, you don't want people to hack it!

Anyway I think the only good reason to play this is to meet new people. Probably girls, since they looove their Pikachu. But then I love Pikachu too. How could you not . PIKAAA

google gets 30% of the profits of pokemon go. i am sure they are going to get right on enforcing their TOS against niantic.... if people want to feel good about "doing something" despite it being meaningless, go right ahead.

I think the reason why PokeVision and everything is down is because Niantic blocked all cloud server IPs. However, you can download PokeVision and run it, using your own computer as a server. You need to make a second account (or use your main one if you wanna risk getting banned), and a Google Maps API key.

1. Go to https://github.com/mchristopher/PokemonGo-DesktopMap/releases/tag/v0.1.6 and download the installation pertaining to your OS (for Windows users, the .exe file)
2. Install it
3. Follow the guide at https://github.com/mchristopher/PokemonGo-DesktopMap/wiki/Google-Maps-API:-a-brief-guide-to-your-own-key to obtain Google Maps API key
4. Create a new account on Google or Pokemon Trainer Club
5. Run Pokemon GO Live Maps
6. Copy and paste the Google Maps API key and login with your fake account
7. Once you are in, you can scan for pokemon, and click on the top left Mobile button to give you a URL
8. Go to the URL using your mobile device, and you just got your own PokeVision
