The thing you're missing there is that with a physical copy I can choose to lend it to somebody without giving up account credentials and sell it if I need to. It's going to be a 2 disk game, so there won't be a ton of disk swapping involved and as far as scratches go, my PS1 copy still has a mirrory finish. I was pretty obsessive with taking care of my CDs/CD cases, so the only *real* damage is a largely superficial crack on the back of the cover. If part 2 ends up with a simultaneous release for PS5/PC I'll just buy it again for PC nbd and skip a PS5 until another system sellers comes out anyway.

This so much: I buy always physical copies because I swap with my family and friends

I never purchase games I don't want to keep and I don't lend out games any more because everyone I know purchase everything digitally, we all have the same games..
Also, I dislike contributing to pollution, like having to transport games on huge ships across the planet.
you do you, sir, I won't say you're wrong or anything like that of course, I personally see more negatives with physical copies than digital, but that is me.
Last time I lent someone a game was back in Half-Life days.
Hopefully the next 12 months goes by in a damn hurry so we can enjoy 60FPS FFVII:R.
PS: I didn't miss the fact that you could lend out a game, I just think it's a foregone era, like lending people movies, it's all digital these days.

For example, I bought ARMS because it seemed interesting and a friend and I were going to play it, but he ended up not getting a Switch due to financial problems and it ended up just sitting there collecting dust. Outside of that, they're an unintentional investment. I can get well more for my FF7 copy than I paid for it if I was in a spot that I'd need to part with it.

If you can sell 20 year old games for more than you purchased it for then you're a magician, unless you found one dumb sheik who doesn't know the game is 20 years old and can be downloaded on steam for a small price. I highly doubt that. I would send you my copy right away and then earn money off of the sale if you could get more money back from the game than what I invested in it, or rather, my mom at the time.

Its not "one dumb sheik", its collectors who want these things. Most of the time for sentimental value. Many physical PS1 games are worth triple digits. The digital versions did not lower those prices

First gen games, yes, but we're talking about games from close to the turn of the millennia which was mass produced, most of the games that are worth much are very difficult to come by for one reason, they were available in a limited amount in the earliest days of video games and no I am not talking about the arcade game era but video console game era.
Air Raid from 82(gen1) was sold in the thousands and is worth up to 6000 USD, FF VII sold 19 million copies of the original game and has since been re-released on multiple platforms.
This is going slightly off-topic so I will add that I am super excited for FF VII:R, I can't wait to grind my ass off. Literally, it will fall off from grinding too much.
Edit: special edition games which came in limited amounts, games with rare flaws in manufacturing, typos, different font or color for text does not apply, we're talking mass released editions here, he most probably does not have one of these.

ok this is a video I will definitely watch AFTER I played the game

So it shouldn't affect digital purchases? Though that being said the file size of the digi is probably going to be huge if the physical is two discs lol..

Like everyone around the world, our SQUARE ENIX team is bonding together worldwide to support each other, our families, our friends, and certainly our passionate community in these incredibly challenging times.
While the circumstances regarding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to evolve, we wanted to update you on the steps we’ve taken to ensure the health and well-being of our employees and their families, maintain our online services, and reassure you on our upcoming slate of exciting games.
We have been following the health and safety guidelines set forth by regional governmental health officials over recent months and in February, we restricted domestic and International business travel and began to limit visitors to our offices and studios.
At the same time, we began working across the SQUARE ENIX organization in Asia, Europe and the Americas to prepare for employees to work from home. Our IT teams increased our remote working systems, including the deployment of VPN and technology upgrades that enable remote working for our studio, development and business operations.
We have now implemented work-from-home policies across all locations and in cases where remote working isn’t possible, we have reduced office density and introduced staggered work times, especially to avoid peak consumer rush hours.
In addition to ensuring the health and well-being of our employees, we remain committed to delivering epic gameplay experiences for our players. Despite the changing work landscape, our development studios remain committed to supporting our live service games and working on our upcoming releases. While some game-related events have been cancelled, we are building out plans for a digital showcase where we can share news with you about those titles in the near future.
We know that many of our fans are looking forward to the upcoming release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, and we want to reassure everyone that we are still moving forward with an April 10 release date. While our goal is to ensure that everyone can play the game on day one, it is increasingly likely that deliveries may be affected in select markets due to supply chain disruptions and potential brick-and-mortar retail closures resulting from governmental quarantine policies.
We are in constant contact with our distribution and retail partners and are actively monitoring the situation for distribution of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. As we receive more information about specific country-level distribution details, we will update you. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the situation develops over the coming days and weeks.
There is no question that these are uncertain times. While we don’t know how long these measures will remain in effect, we want to reassure gamers that we will do everything in our power to keep you entertained and connected with your friends across the globe as we work through these challenging times together.

sounds like the game has gone gold already and is just being hampered with distribution issues thanks to covid-19. i guess worst case scenario, game gets released but gets a day one patch.

Here I am hoping it blows over fast enough for the store to re-open.
