Fighting games would be pretty huge for TL. Then it would have to become the biggest eSports site! (I don't know how Dota 2 TL is doing though, maybe it's not as big as I think it is)

Because fighting games aren't esports. #kappa

Evo was stunning.

Always one of the best esports events.

Well, Shoryuken already does a pretty good job of it.

Shoryuken have the forums archives with all the infos in the world.
It's very slow moving now but there's so much tech and stuff there, it's awesome.

Shoryuken's biggest problem is the information is so fragmented. There is no Liquipedia equivalent. Some of the info is there on the SRK Wiki like frame data, which is still useful, but it isn't going to contain stuff like matchup-specific unblockables or what's a good counterpoke for this particular character's main poke. The presentation also varies wildly for community contributions, from gratuitous use of jargon to insufficient grasp of English to sloppy editing and lack of error-checking. This is the more nitty-gritty stuff that the Dota and SC Liquipedias do quite well, like going over specific strategies or hero builds/build orders.

The search is part of the fun ! ( somewhat )
I probably enjoy digging in these badly organized forums for tech as much as playing the game.

Really new to the fighting game scene but I loved every moment of EVO. What is the next major tournament for games like MvC or Street fighter?

Typically, the biggest event to follow EVO every year is Season's Beatings in October. Then the rotation goes:

January: SoCal Regionals
February: Winter Brawl
March: Final Round
April: NorCal Regionals
May: UFGT
June: CEO
July: EVO again

Season's Beatings is no more. At the end of this month is VideoXGames in San Maarten. Winter Brawl in Philly will be in August, and The Fall Classic, a new tournament put on by the organizers of Winter Brawl/Summer Jam/NEC/Final Round/ECT, is coming in mid-September.NEC is usually the first week of December.

Does SBO still operate? Or it doesn't have the amount of hype it should deserve because it's a Japanese tournament?

SBO blows now (which sucks considering all the hype and prestige it generated years and years before).

All about other tournaments like Topanga League and shit over there now.

edit: Daaaaaaaaamn Nemo making dat money.

SBO has been going down the drain all these years Wasnt the last one held outdoor and plagued with bugs (literally)? also players slacking and drinking on the grass lol. Hope they come back next year with a free stream (instead of paid-only niconico), instant vods and a decent stage

Shoryuken does a very poor job of organizing its forums.

The only thing for fighting games I ever watch is evo once a year. I actually liked the king of fighters finals never heard of the game before really. I felt the AE finals were lacking hype though this year for whatever reason compared to the other games.

If anyone with a 360 was looking into getting into fighters, some of them are on sale this week, among Capcom's other offerings - UMvC3 is 1200 MSP (lowest price to date) and SSF4AE is 1200 MSP. SF3: Third Strike is 300 MSP, too.

(MK9 is also on sale at 800 MSP, but you're probably better off getting a physical copy of the Komplete Edition for ~$15 instead.)

what happened at last year's SBO?

They decided to have it outdoors.

In summer.

None of the players could see anything on the screens due to all the glare.

Didn't they also have issues with ants and insects getting in equipment? Like in cabinets and sticks? And then some issue (maybe in prior years) with some international players not getting to compete? The details are really fuzzy.

SBO reminds me a lot of WCG, both in the prestige they once held and in their decline.

Plus the fact that SBO has always been single elimination made a lot of people question it's legitimacy due to sheer randomness.

Not just single elimination. Single elimination, single game.

on the other hand this super hardcore format adds to the hype somehow. Also it has no prize money, only glory, that takes off the edge of single elim.
And all is illuminated.

Which is why EVO Japan/Godsgarden is even a thing. SBO makes it very hard on players outside of japan to compete spending thousands of dollars to fly there and stay there for the event, only to come away with a few hundred bucks even if you're the best.

Plus to tournament doesn't provide things like translators or anything really and lacks an official english broadcast(considering a large part of non chinese Internet is English and it accommodates alot of places outside of japan that's bad) and charged for the stream alot of money just to view both days. It's just extra bad because EVO accommodates japanese viewers over on niconico

Not like it was ever relevant because only once they got past the first round.

It's more like advertisement for the Japanese arcade scene which is fine in my opinion. Also, the lack of English viewers makes the chat so much more clean.
