This is the time when we’ve gone from the theory of how the hardware works - what we think the yield is going to look like, what is the thermal envelope, how do things come together - to actually having it in our hands,” Whitten explained. “That’s the time when you really start tweaking the knobs. Either your theory was dead on or you were too conservative or you were a little too aggressive. And an example of that is we’ve tweaked up the clock speed on our GPU, from 800 MHz to 853 MHz. Just an example of how you really start landing the program as you get closer to launch.
Hope they don't run into issues similar to the RRoD because of this.
A similar topic is that during last week's Comic-Con there were Xbox One malfunctions that happened numerous times on the show floor. Of course, these are not the final product, but it's a little discouraging when it was discovered that Microsoft were using the PC to demo their games at E3. According to this GameSpot article, the Xbox One may have about 3 times more launch units than the PS4. I just hope Microsoft isn't rushing them out to have an edge over Sony like they did this generation.
Microsoft's engineers have pushed to have it have a 10 year on life cycle.
And RROD issues stopped after the 3rd generation of xbox's it was mostly a problem with the OEM they were using.
There may be 3 times more xboxes at launch it's not a world wide launch and assuming Microsoft and Sony could only get around the same amount of silicon that means places were Xbox1 Launches will have many more Xbox1's then they will have PS4. That being said it's due to it not being a world wide release, unless the game spot article is supposing microsoft got more silicon then sony could. Usually it's the chips that are a bottle neck, or how long they stored them before launch, because they don't want to have extra factories just for launch the idea is for an initial build up for launch day but a normal production for monthly sales.
The audio is completely predictable it's just noise canceling technology the xbox is making the game sounds so it's easy for it to filter those exact sounds out. What great is that it's processing that without delay.
I'm still way more interested in it's visual sensors which should be good enough for most living room situations now that the recommended starting distance is 3 feet.

You're missing the background noises from your family, friends. My response is this Reddit thread.
You underestimate how much work it involves to isolate voice. Apparently it processes it without delay because it's all hardware processing. Not sure if I got that wrong.
Sony has comparable number of R&D but a lot of their focus has been on home/consumer electronics (receivers, tvs), while Microsoft's projects a bit more relatable (at least at the moment). I particularly like using the Kinect to play catch with a robot.
I knew Microsoft's R&D department is one of the best in the business. But there's a large difference between what can be done in a lab and what can be done in your living room. Microsoft is one of the companies I would kinda like to work for (although I am still hooked on academics, so at the moment that is just "something in the back of my mind") for the things like the projects in that video (although I am more interested in their AI department, which wasn't covered)... but that doesn't mean I like their upcoming console!
Or the fact that skype constantly tries to change my search engine to bing and my starting page to MSN
this thing is fucking huge still has fucking huge external power brick one usb port coming out the side? two more, at the rear?
such a poorly designed piece of equipment
a power brick it's an easy cheaper way to get rid of heat and space, what im surprised is hdmi cable and headset included i thought they were nickel and diming us come on $$$.

I'd only care if i wanted to transport my console alot, but hell the thing already has the kinect that you'd need to lug around and very few people do transport their consoles around granted tournament organizations do. I'd wait for ifixit tear down before i'd criticize the designs. Anyways all PS3's the psu has been about 1/4th of the consoles size. Microsoft trades that for taller fans and heatsinks.
On Wednesday, Microsoft quietly confirmed on its website that many of the next-generation console's new and highly touted features will require owners to shell out $60 annually for an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

HDMI cables are pretty damn cheap now, there is no way they could not supply it lol. Headset surprises me though. Kind of confuses me too. Why not just use the kinect?

Some people like the rout chat sounds directly to headset vs out of tv speakers
True on hdmi cables but never doubt a game company to be as cheap as possible.
lol hdmi cables are definitely not standard anywhere at all. it's really a "premium thing" which is complete bullshit. lots of dvd/bluray players don't include. ps3 didn't include one to begin with.
power brick's a bit annoying, but it means the psu isn't in the case which helps with heat. and hopefully a brick would have a longer cable than standard ac power cords, which is fair. hopefully it isn't proprietary though.
huge case is for cooling - heatsink space and breathing room. they're trying to avoid the rrod issues and they want it to last 10 years, so it better run cool. not sure why you would want something ridiculously small anyways. it's around what you see for dvd players, and it's really not even that big...
idk what's the problem with 2 usb ports on the back, but the usb port on the side would be useful if you want to plug'n'play external hard drives, and it's a lot more out of the way than having it in the front.
not sure what you keep ripping on stealth. it's exactly the same with the ps4, except the ps4 doesn't even have anything else.
the problem with hdmi cables is cause the majority of consumers have no clue how to differentiate between 480p and 720p, lots of people still don't have nice monitor/tvs that actually make it worthwhile to have a high resolution. it's exactly the same reason why people buy shitty monitors to use with their $300 graphics card. it's not worth it for a manufacturer to take another 10-20 dollar loss for basically zero change for the average consumer. it's only been the last 1-2 years where youtube's really stepped up its 720p and 1080p delivery and that has had such a dramatic effect on the way people look at video (even through a mediocre display) that people are paying more attention now.
