but the difference being the spurs can actually execute plays. The Spurs actually have a bench.

I have to root against the Heat because I don't like how three stars in their prime colluded to end up on the same team, but realistically Heat in 6.

Every question to Lebron is about losing to Spurs in 2007.

yep. Spurs have a bench, but their bigs can't do what Indy's bigs did vs Miami. Don't see how they can play Duncan/Splitter at the same time vs the Heat either and that is the reason their defense rose to top levels this year. If Wade/Bosh are healthy San Antonio is a pretty easy underdog in this matchup.
|
lebron still being the determining factor here. Leonard probably won't defend him well, but can tie up wade enough at his age. parker > heat pg, and then duncan/bosh cancellation. birdman/splitter cancel.
It's gonna be about how effective lebron ends up being as a shooter because the lane will be plenty clogged, and when he dishes to the other shooters if they hit shots. if we have another game like the losses to indy with cold nights from allen, bosh, and battier, it'll be too much pressure on lebron to win the game, but if they hit shots, it'll spread the defense and open up more for lebron to do his thang.
Manu gonna be a huge factor in this series imo.

i hope the spurs can somehow manage to win
it would mean tmac gets a ring

Gonna be more to it than that. Can Ray Ray be out there without giving up dozens of points to Parker/Ginobili? Can Bosh keep up with TD despite hurting his ankle/playing like shit? Will Cole step up like he has been all playoffs, can Green/Leonard even kinda contain Lebron? Will we get game 7 Wade or rest of the Indiana series Wade? Will Battier keep bricking every shot he takes? Can the Heat rebound at all?
To answer my own questions, Allen becomes the dude you hide on defense on the Spurs' weakest offensive member, it's theoritically possible for Bosh but based on his play vs Indiana I don't see him doing it (yeah Hibbert/West took a lot out of him but he still looked bad despite that, and vs Indiana's bench too. He did better vs the bench but still didn't look like All-Star Bosh). Cole's a question mark but I think he at least gives the Heat a good defensive performance. Who knows with Wade, whether he decided to try or was on major drugs, but I think it's possible he puts up at least 1-2 great games. Battier's been cold all playoffs, I don't think he's gonna get hot now. Heat will probably rebound better than they did against Indiana but tbh they haven't been great at that all season, I'd still give a slight rebounding advantage to the Spurs.

good god Ray Allen on defense...vs Manu?
this could get bad.

this could get bad. imo you hide him on whoever you can so he never gets those matchups, problem being that Pop could easily put out a 5 with no real weaknesses.

Spurs in 7.
Tim Duncan will embarrass Chris Bosh, not in a Roy Hibbert way, but in a crisp, clean, Tim Duncan way.
Tony Parker will be difficult to stop; he embarrassed Memphis with his passing and scoring, and Memphis is a very good defensive squad.
I feel like Wade will basically revert back to his first 6 games of the IND series.
The only problem is LeBron. Who will guard him, Kahwi Leonard? What if Leonard gets banged up?
I think Allen/Andersen/Battier/Miller are going to be very important in this series. Perhaps the deciding factor. However, if the "Big 3" is still the "Big 1", do not expect San Antonio to turn the ball over 15 times in one half...
|
wow you people are giving td no credit at all
but then most of you said memphis were going to blow out the spurs so
|
It's not about underestimating Duncan, but defensively how can he protect the paint vs Miami's slashers? Splitter is no West and Kawhi is their only SF. Miami is going to have much more space than vs Indy and that is huge.
|
Ya, they will probably even be able to put Battier out as the 4 again vs Splitter or whoever else. And agreed, I think miami will have more room to operate on offense, but the Spurs offense will also be able to pick at the weaknesses of the Miami D like the Pacers couldn't or any team Miami has faced so far.
|
Battier is definitely coming back. Spurs offense is going to be lights out but the pace also helps Miami. Going to be fun either way as the ball movement and passing should be amazing on both sides.

4 game sweep where the spurs are leading enough in game 4 to let tmac come out for more than 1 minute.
make it happen!
EDIT:
Cool article about Tim Duncan. Worthwhile read.

Spurs bench almost beat Miami starters too. 1 game doesn't mean much

Pops being an amazing coach makes me want to give the Spurs a solid chance at the series. I think Spo has some various rotations he can exploit because Lebron is the biggest matchup nightmare since Magic, but Pops is a genius, and I expect him to throw some interesting matchups out there, or have a really solid gameplan for keeping Parker freed up and running the offense. I'm really interested to watch 4Q of this game 1 to see if Lebron checks Parker in crunch time, and if he does what lineup Spo runs to facilitate that without forcing an awful matchup elsewhere(like Wade having to defend Leonard or something).
Really amped for this series, have Heat with the slight edge because Lebron and game 7 and home.
