Seems like another case where people should be mad at the people donating instead of the people running the stream. They are not deceiving anyone, and it's not a less worthy cause than all the streamers that accept donations for no reason at all. Same thing as some donation Kickstarters. Feeling that what they are doing doesn't deserve donations is a completelly diferent issue, and I don't see how you could justify Cosmo, Sig and dozens of other streamers, in the speedrunning community or not, receiving thousands of dollars in donations just because people like their stream.

Everyone is free to throw money wherever they feel like it, and it's only a real issue if they are deceived in some way. This marathon made pretty clear who is actually receiving the money and why it is for. The title is the only issue, but I don't see the reason forsuch a big deal out of the title alone.

So I recently was just permabanned from romscout's stream for questioning the legitimacy and necessity of their current marathon. Basically I went through the faq they had posted (here) to see what the event was about as their title makes it seem like they are raising money to bring in people who will be playing their games on stream at AGDQ. Upon further reading of the FAQ, I came to the conclusion that everyone that is being supported by this event is not speedrunning a game at AGDQ with the exception of Klaige. So that makes it 6 people who are not speedrunning games and 1 who is... Am I the only one who thinks this is disgustingly wrong? I even asked in chat why this marathon is taking in funds under the premise of bringing in speedrunners when in actuality it is not, only to be told to "fuck off" and get permanently banned from the chat. This is just unreal.

The people whose trips are being funded:
+ Show Spoiler +
-Lindsey King a.k.a. Jazaaboo: an artist who has done work for every major “Games Done Quick” marathon, including the banners and stream layouts, as well as awesome prizes and some t-shirt designs.
-Ssskinner (Samm) and her husband Dan: the hosts of this marathon who have been involved with the speedrunning community for several years and given it a lot of support. Samm has been to an AGDQ and the most recent SGDQ and done a great job with casting/donation reading and providing informative commentary for runs.
-0xa101 (Adrian): a strong member of the speedrunning community who has overcome cancer and is very supportive of other runners. She will have a great presence at AGDQ!
-Klaige: a longtime fighting game player who joined the speedrunning community a couple of years ago and has been widely loved ever since. He has not been to AGDQ or SGDQ yet, but will be running Castlevania: Bloodlines at the upcoming marathon and helping out behind the scenes quite a bit in the future!
-J: a longtime speedrunner who has shifted his focus recently to developing games and has not been to a marathon in a while. He will be trying to make a difference once again at AGDQ and might even get to show off a game or two that might be of interest to speedrunners during bonus stream.
-Houser: another supportive member in the community who has helped with some of the less mentioned but super important behind the scenes work at AGDQ, such as giving people rides to the airport and doing food runs! He is also a Metal Gear Rising runner who is very entertaining and will be providing some great commentary in the upcoming AGDQ.
-The other runners: any surplus we raise will help out the other runners with any unexpected AGDQ travel/trip costs. Additional surplus will be donated to PCF during AGDQ.

The chat log:

You know not just runners are at AGDQ right? There's a support staff monitoring the donations and making sure everything is good from the stream to food etc. Also Adrian is on the schedule to do Crono Trigger NG+ if the donation incentive is hit which is extremely likely thus she needs to be there. You also provided reasons on why several others should be there without realizing it. Not everyone is there to run a game some are there simply for commentary or other help.
Edit: Not to mention you came off like a huge ass and looked at it like any one not a runner isnt necessary, but thats just my opinion

I'm glad you brought up the topic of Adrian specifically here. She is an interesting case in that she receives $100s in donations on stream quite frequently. In fact just the other day she got over $300 in one night. This is besides the fact that she is with cosmo who of course could easily fund her trip with the blink of an eye and one wind waker run.

To be completely honest, I don't think anybody should be asking for donations to fund their vacations even if it is to read some chat logs at a quasi-charity event.

So your argument is that she should not ask for donations to get to the event because she could've just ask for donations to get to the event (or have Cosmo ask for donations instead)?

If there's a problem with misleading donation banners/drives/marathons, then let's talk about that. But as long as the people asking for the money are honest.. where's the problem? I remain baffled at some things people have donated money for during streams, but hey, it's still their money to do with as they please.

I'm always impressed by andrewg. He can do dozens of runs in a row that don't even make it past the first two minutes and he still doesn't lose motivation to improve his WR. Not the mention the run is almost flawless as well.

Damn that was a good run, round 2 went so well.

331 is bs though, that really sucks since Werster really wanted the 330.

I was really confused why it was listed as a nearly 5 hour run, but then I realized that the record was so perfected that it was tracked by a fraction of a second. Thats pretty crazy. What fps does the game run at? Can the run actually be improved any more at this point?

A high 4:57:XX is possible but at this point it is so optimized it will probably takes months or even years for him to save anymore frames. IIRC the game runs at 30 fps.

Almost all NES games (including Super Mario Bros.) run at very slightly over 60 fps.

It's also a lot harder because of the 21 frame rule.
Even during difficult times, when I sat down to play the game, there were times where it felt like god has descended down and played [for me].

Doom: Scythe single segment done is 22:07

http://www.twitch.tv/kingdime/c/3063214

Looks better on the twitch highlight if you feel like watching through a commercial. Scythe is a megawad made in 2003
which was and is one of the most popular of the WAD's. It has over 700 demos but was missing a single segment run so
I finished that up. Gameplay gets exponentially more difficult in the third episode.
