Here's one level: I think I have to learn this game now. Been playing it mostly casually the last few days and it's lots of fun, and these IL runs look really amazing. I beat all the in-game target times in time attack the past few days but these ILs beat a lot of my times by like a minute.

Plutonia in 1:02:11 All of the routes are feeling good but it's scary how fast you can get ripped apart. Case in point, check out the death at 9:45 and 30:45 in the vod

Now I'm feeling bad ![]() It's actually surprisingly easy to speedrun, as long as you're at the level where you beat bosses in one try (which I personally find quite easy except for S&O). Running past the areas is usually far easier than fighting through them normally (hell, since I started to try my hand at speedrunning, I always speedrun through sens fortress, so much quicker and easy). Dark Souls is a game which challenges you constantly, but as you master it, the challenge disappears since it isn't based on RNG and such bullshit, once you can beat a section reliably, it's not hard to do it over and over.

Yeah I second this, depending on the category you want to learn there can be very little RNG that effects you so badly that it ends runs. I personally learned how to do a basic run from the sgdq runner (giant blacksmith hammer) since we are friends from high school and my general roadblocks for learning this game was pretty much the following: - Moving through areas efficiently. - Learning how to properly fight the double gargoyle boss. (all the other bosses that aren't s&o are pretty trival, and even s&o isnt that bad once you learn it) - Learning how to manage the inventory and learning how to use your downtime properly to equip/unequip items. It's not very bad at all once you get the hang of it but just like platformers where one bad jump can have you falling off of a pit and losing you time, deaths in dark souls waste time and in some cases it can be a lot and you reset and some cases it's not very much and you don't reset.

I am getting more and more interested in speedrunning Metroidvania games. Got any you'd like to recommend? I have only played Metroid: ZM and Metroid Fusion

My current inaccurate estimate for a full run is somewhere just short of an hour, but I can't confirm that until I have 8 and 9 fully routed and tested. It's not an easy game to run, so who knows.
