Wow, this gives me hope for foreigners in SC2 Not quite, the Japanese fighting game community is in no way comparable to Korea's BW "community", I think that Flash makes in a year, without any winnings, more money than all of the money ever invested in the entire Japanese fighting game community combined ![]()

The Japanese have never played in the arcades for the money, and in fact prefer paying their dues than just playing online a console setup, where the only risk is your ranking b/c they're used to the arcade culture and competing for their quarters' worth. They're not comparable because of that difference. Korea's development of Starcraft as a cultural phenomenon and an accepted medium in culture is unique probably ONLY to Korea, only other point of comparison is probably China & DoTA. E-Sports in the U.S. or Europe is simply not the same as it is in Korea because we didn't develop video game communities around that sort of model. The success of BW & the sponsorships that accumulated all those years is something unique to Korea because their game scenes developed much differently. (They never had a fledging arcade scene, I think I read somewhere so fighting games never were a point of moneymaking until Tekken I guess, and that was long after Starcraft became the head of gaming scene in Korea) The U.S & Japan had arcade scenes in the 90s, and thus rose and fell (in America at least). Only reason arcades have still been so good in Japan is because of how integrated arcades are in areas where people stop by regularly. Either way, the comparisons between SC & Fighting Games have seriously got to stop. It's asking for a flame war. It's annoying seeing this stuff anyway.
