Speaking of which, the other day I was mining and I was really bored (no surprise there), so I decided to chat up somebody with a Japanese name, trying to pretend that I couldn't speak English, using auto-translate and typing in Japanese.
Well, turns out that she was a Korean student studying abroad in New York and her English wasn't that much better either, lol. But at least I made a friend that day, lol.
I don't see how not being bothered to turn on japanese IME automatically means you're shit at Japanese.
-Japanese are very elitist about their language and they think it's really hard -Using Roomaji is a good indication that you're not Asian (Chinese and Koreans would not use Roomaji) -Therefore, u r teh noobz

I know tons of koreans who use romaji, you don't have much choice if you're on a computer without japanese IME. I'm also surprised you would think being asian helps you with Japanese. Koreans certainly have an easier time learning it, but Chinese are rarely any more impressive than westerners when it comes to Japanese ability, knowing a buttload of kanji won't help if you don't understand the grammar or the words.
If you are desperate, can look at the keyshop link on page 48 of this thread. I am in big city and still no copy available. I said screw it and tried that site. Was a little sketch, but some Asian woman called me up right after purchase and emailed a photo of a cd key. It worked and I've been playing all weekend , wad collectors also

I don't personally think being Asian helps you with Japanese at all, and I don't personally think the language is that hard, but just going off what Japanese have told me. (Chinese and Korean just have a better chance of speaking Japanese because of the... uh, contentious history.)
I like doing silly things to make Japanese really puzzled, which includes writing in roomaji in Osakan dialect and using lines from famous comedy routines then acting a fool. I remember doing something like that in FFXI.

...huh? Chinese have it much easier because as any Japanese would tell you, they don't sit there and read every single Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji. They mostly only ever read the kanji to know exactly what the sentence is talking about and the rest is just filled in by the mind. And well.. since almost all the kanji in Japanese is derived from Chinese then it makes learning it that much easier. Kanji is also by far the hardest thing to learn in Japanese anyway as any Japanese student would tell you.

I don't need any student of Japanese to tell me that. It's however irrelevant. Just because kanji is one of the most time-consuming aspects of learning Japanese, it's not a magical way to learn the language. Chinese "grammar" differs from Japanese grammar even more than English does. Your first sentence is a good view into what I mean: Chinese people skip most of what is written, read the kanji and extrapolate a meaning. That's like using google translate. It gives them a leg up on everyone else when it comes to reading comprehension, but it doesn't help them get good at the rest of the language. Hell, even if they know the meaning of the kanji, they don't know the kun'yomi and only have some minor help with on'yomi, so they can't even read it out loud.
Not saying Chinese people have an extremely hard time learning Japanese, but unlike koreans, they usually don't excel much faster than westerners. The Chinese in my class in Tokyo were possibly the worst at Japanese in the whole class (though it should be noted they were unusually lazy when it came to their studies).

I feel like we're getting a bit off topic here but I'll make this my last reply.
I agree with most of what you say; the only thing I don't is that you say Westerners and Chinese learn at the same rate which is completely false. You're taking one of the hardest aspects of learning Japanese out (for the Chinese learners) whilst the Westerners have no advantage whatsoever (apart from I guess knowing much, much more grammar rules due to English) is where I disagree. I have quite a few Chinese in my class who are acing it due to spending almost no time revising kanji and spending that time instead reviewing all other aspects.
Although I agree wholeheartedly with a majority of Chinese students in Melbourne being incredibly lazy with their studies. Or maybe they all just don't like Comp Sci
I think Garuda is like the only fight where tank actually has to do stuff so far... I'd love to do nothing but tank on Titan with everyone around me running for their lives lol.

But its fun to figure fights out again, havent done it since i played EQ2.
Wait till you get to HM's. PUGs will leave after one death. Hope you're on a good server.
Dunno but duty finder was shitting on me with pugs and HM Garuda. People in 47 greens thinking they can MT and stuff. What's even worse is somehow those people are getting carried through Garuda into Titan. My server is terrible and there's only like 3 guilds with people that can actually beat HM titan. And the duty finder doesn't let you swap a tank for a third healer which is desperately needed in that fight.
Sooo I was looking to buy this game but apparently the digital purchases are disabled because their servers are exploding. Does anyone know an ETA for this to be available digitally again?
Anyone knows how to make money in this game? I just hit weaver 50 but I have no clue what to do to get enough money and craft my gear so I can make stuff for my guild. T.T

Gathering is always good, also farming, both for stuff like Hipo skin, fleece, or just farm Tome of philo and sell the item. In addition, you can spirit bind and convert them into materia, which is always in demand.
For more advanced and more sketchy method, if you can beat Titan with 7 people you can sell win to people who need it for relic.
For crafting to make money, you have to be able to HQ 50* 50** consistently, which require you to have WVR (Careful Synthesis II) / BSM (Ingenuity II) / GSM (Innovation) / CRP (Byregot's Blessing) / ALC (Comfort Zone) 50 plus LTW (Waste Not) / CUL (Hasty Touch) 15
For me to make money as crafter is to make HQ Twinthread / Hippo Leather / Darksteel nugget to sell. With 1 HQ 2 NQ material I can HQ about 90% time.
oh sorry, i did not mean HM garuda, i am on one of the new servers. i was merely commenting on how i like the fights in this game.
i dont think i would do hardmodes with dutyfinder random groups.
also, the spell "Holy" from whitemage looks awesome, i could cast it all day. And as i am rather high level compared to the rest of the server, people nearby stop walking and investigate instead :D

Wait it out like the rest of us! But seriously now, it really sucks knowing 1000's of people are enjoying this game, and Square hasnt made clear when they will allow more people to buy. I havent even had a taste yet! im dyin' here! Although, if im not mistaken, there will be server maintenance this afternoon, perhaps when they are finished, they will have added more servers? One can hope, regardless, will be f5'ing that fucking buy page all day and night.
