Also, if you really want to discount those performances, then you'll have to do it to Wilt's 100 too. He did it against the 29-51 Knicks.

I thought everyone discounted wilt's 100. He did it against 6'4" guys.

which is the exact reasoning that all of lbj's stats are irrelevant, he is just a giant among men.

weren't the raptors actually playing good that year? I think they made the playoffs. Charlotte is barely better than a team of wheelchair athletes. Someone said that 57 against the bobcats is sorta like 32 on an NBA team. 32 is still pretty damn good.

no the raptors were 27-55 that year, they finished 12th in the east.

Its funny how people compare 57 vs Bobcats vs monster triple double vs Knicks in a nailbiter. Way to discard common sense!

Bobcats are so terrible D-Will could have just facilitated the ball more and still blow them out. I don't get why people are so eager to inflate one player. If a team gets blown by 40 points with equal point distribution between the teammates the media doesn't care. On ESPN they would say: "This wasn't much of a game, next".
But if 1 player scores 40+ "OMG what an amazing performance! Bird-like performance! MVP candidate! Weeeee!"

You guys realize that if Deron was on the Bobcats and not the Nets, the Nets would be worse than the Bobcats right? The Nets are pretty damn bad and Deron actually needed to score 57 for them to win.

IDK...something about Rose just rubs me the wrong way....I

I'll just justify it by being a Durant fanboi.

As for Charlotte, did you see the Spurs second unit dominate them the other night?

Yeah but you discount it twice. First because it's against 6'4" guys, second because it's against bad 6'4" guys.

The way Deron is, I think he would've dropped 45+ that night regardless of the team and defense. Maybe Miami alters his shot a bit, but most of those were undefendable or the defense was actually pretty decent.

You're joking right?

The Raptors won their division title the next year to make the playoffs, the first time that franchise ever did that. The Lakers meanwhile had a starting line up that consisted of Chris Mihm at starting center and Kwame Brown at forward. The line up was good enough for a 4-1 playoff exit in the first round that year. The Raptors had arguably the overall better team that year.

The Lakers were down by THIRTY at half time in that game.

If Kobe hadn't scored that much the Raptors would have won. The Lakers won that game at the end by 18 after Chris Bosh fouled out in the 4th quarter.

Kobe's 81 point game was won by being absolutely on fire from 3 point land, and not missing a single free throw the entire time.

Sure he was only able to get that many because Toronto wasn't double teaming him to start, but they eventually started doing that later in the second half but at that point Kobe was on so much fire it didn't matter.

His game was the single greatest performance I've ever seen, it can't be downplayed no matter how hard you try.

Watch for yourself if you don't believe me. For the record. Both Rondo and D-Williams played amazingly yesterday, neither one of their games deserved to be downplayed either.

29-51 is .363, the Bobcats are .114. They're on a whole different level. But yeah, I don't care unless someone scores 40+ against a team that makes the playoffs.

The only reason the Lakers even made the playoffs that year is because Kobe Bryant went on an absolute rampage through the league. 4 games of 50+ 15 games of 40+ that year. He went for 60+ against Dallas the very game before his 81 point game (and they DID make the playoffs.) His team was terrible, he carried them to the playoffs on his back. His 81 point game was just the highlight of that ridiculous season for him.

The difference between the Raptors and the Lakers that year was in just one player. without Kobe the Lakers would have been far worse than the Raptors that year. Your philosophy is so unbelievably narrow minded.

The very same can be said about the Nets and the Bobcats this year. Were Darron Williams a Bobcat, the Bobcats would be fighting for the 8 seed while the Nets would be the worst team in the league. The difference a single unbelievable player in this league can make on a team is beyond substantial, and that's exactly why so many people care about great performances like Kobe's in 06 and Williams' yesterday.

Kobe scored 40 and Amar'e scored 42 in the Suns vs Lakers in '10.

This happens more than you might think 40 point games aren't THAT impressive. Not on the same level as a 50 or 80 point game.

Jordan's 63 against Boston though, that was one for the books. Arguably the best individual performance of his airness' career.

He was much more aggressive with the Utah Jazz, I feel he's hitting approx the same amount of jumpers after the PNR, but he was attacking the basket a lot more in Utah than he is with the Bulls, and all of his attacks are super soft, there's no force it seems :\
