I played my first game recently (the big one will be my second), so to any doubters, do it, it's worth it, I had to learn on the fly and enjoyed every minute.

It can be a little overwhelming at times, but it is a lot of fun, and you have absolutely no reason to be intimidated, as long as you post coherently and read the thread you should be good to go ^_^

For the newbies, there is actually a very small game going on at the moment, here's a link to the day 1 post:

It's only a 9 player game, so it's very easy to follow, and should help you get familiar with how the game works. Not to mention that most of the players in that game are signed up for the big game, so it will give you a little insight.

I actually suggest just going through and reading the SNMM series, to get an idea of what a game looks like and what mistakes to avoid. SNMMI has a particularly strong town showing.
EDIT: And SNMMVI is a cautionary tale of what NOT to do in a game of mafia.
