Yeah I might be a little off base - its been years since I've had to actively search out for a team. Not to be confused - I've had free esea since its inception and to be honest, ESEA pugs are just as much of a waste of time as MM.
Once you get to the point you can call yourself an intermediate player (I guess the plat equiv in sc2?) I would search out a team asap.

Force yourself to tap/burst at medium/long range Only spray at close range.
and thats exactly one of many things deathmatch can train, breaking bad habits like spraying all the time and like the other gent mentioned crosshair placement etc

I made a quick video since people seem to find it tricky to make it to the 'secret' spot on the window sill on de_train at bombsite B.
I've seen other people use the ladder to get there or more complicated ways but none of them seemed to explain well/in detail and most people failed their own jump method once or twice before succeeding. In a real game you obviously want to be reliable if you go play that spot and not take fall damage etc. Using this method, I can definitely do it every time.

Doing that already due to years of 1.6. Preaiming is not the problem, reaction time and aiming on moving targets is. That's why I though I would take the advice and play DM to better that but in reality it doesn't help me.

I don't spray at long range in competetive matches. In death match however I fall into that very fast because of the constant clusterfuck everywhere.
My comment was also not only meant for me but I can't see how DM really helps anyone.

I use DM to warm up my hands and such before I play MM or pugs. This is the case for other people as well

Again I can only recommend setting up a DM 1v5 vs bots that only use knives on aim_map or a similar map. Then it's easy to always one-tap at medium+ ranges and you won't feel the need to start spraying. There's a video on my YouTube channel that explains exactly how to set it up with a useful practice script.
If bots aren't your thing and you prefer to practice vs real opponents try headshot only DMs, I've been doing those as well a bit and it's also pretty good with a similar effect as the other exercise since spraying at medium+ range simply doesn't work. You're forced to single tap heads.

Play aim maps then, not DM on regular maps. When playing aim maps, pick a target and see if you can kill him in 1-2 bursts, ignore other targets that may pop up, if you get shot by someone else, think of it as, "you were too late to kill him, and his teammate killed you", who cares about score. etc.
|
I wouldn't recommend playing aim maps against bots personally. Bots move in a very slow and unnatural way. You have to quickly learn how to play against people who'll move in an intelligent way.
|
Playing against bots is okay if you force yourself to peek>flick peek> flick etc. It's a good way to train your muscle memory reliably, but only if you do it the right way.

I tried playing a headshot only DM map
never going to do that again. my aim felt screwed up and different when going to play something that was non-headshot only

I try instead to practice having a reliable spray on dm servers.

Play a game and get promoted with a mission. Do mission and get a skin that sells for $3. Today has been a good day even though I'm playing like shit

WarOwl's playing with Suppy and Hendralisk right now, pretty cool to see as a fan of both eSports!

That Bot DM and aim maps sound like really good advices. Totally forgot about aim maps even though I played tons of them back in the day. It's probably because GO games aren't mainly based on custom servers. Thanks for that, I will try it!

Am I the only one who likes Black Gold? For whatever reason, my awp/scout shots are crazy good on that map. I think I've also been playing against people who hate the map, so that may be playing a role in my success lol.

its not bad i like insertion out of the operation maps right now

Out of all the new maps, the only one that I can play is overgrown. But lately, I really started to like overpass. I think valve did a really good job with balancing / polishing on this map.

People have definitely come around to Overpass, but the consensus is still that Cobblestone is trash.

I think that both of the new maps in the ESL One map pool are trash compared to what could have been in their place.
If Valve wants to make their own maps for competitive play they should just hire Brute or Volcano to make maps full time. If Valve would have invested money into making a CS:GO version of de_tuscan this map surely would have been out already and much better than either de_overpass or de_cobblestone. Also why has de_season been completely ignored. The ONLY good decision they made to be honest is to include de_cache (and even this was late).
Don't even get me started on the Operation maps which are complete garbage.
tl;dr -de_overpass -de_cobblestone +de_season +de_train +invest into creation of de_tuscan
edit: (post #777, haha just looks cool)

Dunno that train is a better map than overpass honestly.

I loved 1.6's train, but the new one is kind of messy in my opinion, the decor is too complex for my taste. I'd definitely love to have the old CPL maps though, and season looks really good even if I haven't played it.
