And no, I am by no means a Freakazoid nor Cloud9 fan (neither one of s1mple as a matter of fact), but this is my neutral point of view. Youre eastern european and German at the same time?
I don't know why you question my statement, where I am from just based on the Country settings of my TL account, but to satisfy your curiosity: my parents are polish, but I am born and live in Germany. So I can still relate to the mentality of eastern europeans. I do not want to say it is impossible that this hurt s1mple, but I would guess it did not.

The kid is 18, moved to America to follow his dreams and gets compeltely shit on by the environment in which he will spend the next part of his life in playing, whether you are Eastern European or not, i'd say thats not very nice. Just because he is Eastern European(as though the entire Eastern European is some kind of monolithic cultural entity with inherent resistent to bullying) doesn't mean that he can't feel bad about it, he sure as hell didn't seem to enjoy it very much when it did happen.
|
Never said he would enjoy it, while it happens, but that he probably forgot about it, the second it stopped.
Like were you ever seriously hurt after someone on the internet tried to "bully" you? I was just annoyed it happend, but I would not lose a thought about it afterwards. It is just stupid to be mad about "cyberbullying". He could have just muted him in TS and go on with his game, too. It is not like you cannot avoid cyberbullying.

Its not a random person on the internet, I get shittalked in game all day by random people on the internet, I don't care about that(also because that happens ingame between opponents).
Freakazoid(and the rest of the guys in that TS) are not random joes. Its like going to a tennis competition and get bullied by the other prominent tennis people there. Like I said the kid is 18 and feels that he is being attacked in the environment which he will compete, ofcourse he is going to defend himself(noone else did it for him so he he feels compelled to do it himself). The rational thing might be to mute Freakazoid(Simple didn't even know it was him until later btw) but he is not exactly being rational at that very moment.

NA got what NA deserved. Hopefully a wake up for some. Maybe they can act more mature and friendly from now on in the proscene, and perhaps realise what an opportunity FPL is, for everyone involved. Personalities are awesome but professionalism is a must.

I think that this punishment is good. It's not jeopardizing Freak's career, only his image. It's harsh enough so he'll think twice about doing that again. C9 send a strong signal that this is unacceptable, and somehow set a bar for the kind of punishment about that behavior (and should the issue rise again with another player from another team, being too soft will be criticized).
It's not an over-reaction imho. CSGO is getting to a level where it's in the spotlight and there's big stakes, and behaviors like that have absolutely no place in there.

When your sponsers are setting up and funding anti cyber-bullying campaigns, a month salary is definitely an approriate punishment imo.

You only get to be BM and toxic as fuck if you are good enough (see RTZ, Sumail) to get away with it or unkown enough. Freakazoid is neither, brand is everything and C9 wants to be presented as not the bad boys but the nice guys(they don't win any tournaments so they can't get away with this). It doesn't help with the hypocrisy of his anti-bullying video that he made with his mom.
I think it might be a tad too harsh but I understand, its also about setting a precedent for C9, iirc one of its sponsors even has a anti-bullying campaign allignment(intel?). So yeah they are prolly making an example of him.

Not sure about that, Sumail gets his music from RTZ as well.

Universe and Zai are still the best in terms of music choices on EG.

Even though it's 'only' against Noble I'm hyped to see koosta playing for TL today

RTZ and Sumail get away with it because they do it in game (out of frustration) and don't join other players TS to make fun of them. It's slightly different.

He basically went out of his way to shittalk simple. Meh TL seems to have forgiven him and C9 in my eyes have punished him fairly. For me the drama is over with this

I was happy to be very critical of Freakazoid until now, but a month's salary is excessive -_-. I had to go back in the thread to see that... Oh well.
Let me put it this way: If it was me I would feel betrayed by my org. One or two weeks would be fine, a month though? 20 business days of working for free just doesn't sound like something I'd be willing to do.

If your employee is going around talking shit, you might have to do something about to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm assuming the fines or w/e are said somewhere in their contract. He might even be fired if this was a normal job.

He might even be fired if this was a normal job. I understand that actions have consequences and I still feel entitled to my opinion about what "punishments" are excessive given the context. Not sure if you're saying the status quo is always acceptable or what but what you said doesn't really change my argument.
If some of what I'm saying is reminiscent of topics that were touched upon in the By The Numbers talk shows it's because I think it's pretty on point. They said something about how people who say "I could never do that in my shit job" as if it was some kind of equivalence. It obviously isn't... does your job involve playing on FPL for hours with young people with a competitive spirit? Does your job involve being constantly scrutinized in the public eye? Normal jobs don't matter, this is not a "normal jobs" type deal.
Also I don't know that Freakazoid is technically and employee. He may be a contractor or something. If the contract says the contract can be broken by bad actions or that fines can be used as punishment, it doesn't necessarily mean that you should necessarily take 1 month off just like that. These guys are not millionaires, 1 month's worth of salary is a lot of money.
