Your energy shield isn't high enough to be reliable at all at that level. In addition, a large amount of the ES a person typically comes from their int, which supplies %ES. If you are not interested in being a caster / stacking int, ES is not the build you should be using. For any build that can't use ES well, you have to stack life. It's just the nature of any ARPG; if you don't have enough life you're fucked. As a side note, hybrid HP/ES builds do exist and are viable, but it's not recommended if you're a beginner. To equip a dagger, you can quickly get int by equipping a Lapis Amulet or some other Int increasing amulet, which are easily purchasable at vendors. Otherwise, there are larger +30 int nodes around the tree that you can spend a single skill point on. Otherwise, I would recommend using a Claw, which don't require as much int and are better at lower levels, as they have inherent life leech. Lastly, I would say Shadows are probably the hardest class for a beginner to play. If you are dead set on playing that class you can make it work for sure, but you'd probably have an easier/more fun time playing any other class. | ||

It feels like you absolutely have to invest in Health as well, although you get absolutely no synergy from it, and that just sucks. Sry for the rant, has anybody got experience in ES/evasion shadows, how dead am i gonna be? Right now, Normal difficulty act 2 is hard enough... Tbh with my first character I have been lucky with the paths taken with my build. I did ranger with mass aoe split/fork/punture etc. Items are very important and if you fall behind on that it will be very hard to run threw the game. I am on merciless act1 and some items have not changed for me since cruel since it works well with my class. First time playing is rough on this game it is not like Diablo where it can be forgiving. | ||

 The shadow is just in an extremely bad spot, to the point where i would say that it is bad game design :/ I am gonna roll the roulette until he dies, which will be pretty soon i guess and then switch to another Nemesis class and play shadow only for the funsies in normal. It's too late to respec now, maybe i can put in even more passive points in defensive and the problem will go away, but i doubt it. | ||

It's too late to respec now, maybe i can put in even more passive points in defensive and the problem will go away, but i doubt it.starting blind is pretty much a waste of time. all the 'learn while you play' stuff is nonsense. look for a guide from a streamer or something and build a char that can farm first. then fund your experiments. shadow for example is not bad at all. you just need money to fund the gears for most shadow builds since they are reliant on es and crit. outside of summoner builds, es based builds tend to be more gear intensive but have higher late game ceiling. also, the base stat of an item at lvl 6 vs lvl 20 may not differ by much, but they can probably roll different mods based on their ilvl (you can check ilvl by picking up the item on your cursor and type /itemlevel , or get a script like POEdisplay). so a lvl 6 belt or something can only roll 20 life but a lvl 20 one can roll 50 life etc | ||

Shadow has good builds that are viable for hardcore. It also has low-cost builds that are viable for hardcore. It's just that the builds you picked are bad for beginners and expensive. But that can be said for every class. Also, if you don't know what items, nodes and gems to pick, your character will probably suck regardless of the direction of your "build". So: The feedback was that Daggers and CI/ES-based builds are not good for beginners and for leveling because they are very gear depended (which means with the right items they can be really really strong). And your conclusion was that Shadow is just bad for beginners. Which is wrong. Trapper is a good example for being a not gear depended build and relatively easy to pick node routes. You also get a lot of useful gems just through quests. | ||

I play nemisis with a selffound shadow and so far it is the strongest easiest character I have played. Please make some research before you come into a forum and spout "bad game design". All you did is probably make an awful build and at the same time you play hardcore. Hardcore in POE is about kiting and making viable builds, balancing dmg with survivability. One tip, in hardcore, HP is king! | ||
