What skills do people use in trapper chars? What passives are generally considered key for them? I dropped the unique boots for trappers and am thinking about doing one. It's nemesis

searching for culling strike, and setting "buyout only" to "on", shows many culling strikes for 1alch or 1chaos.

I just had an idea, what if (if I still went with crit) I went AoF and used ice spear and cold to fire to have the higher crit chance on the skill + gems to boost fire damage/ignite/prolif. It might not be worth the extra required gem (c2f) but seems like a possibly effective idea for crit ignite.

C2F's qual bonus isn't huge but it does double dip so its a nice boost to ur dmg even if it costs a link. Plus you could drop conc effect.
Non-crit fireball seems more reliable atm although I can't vouch for your damage late. I also haven't really played much like this so I'm coming from a fairly pure theory perspective here.

It does sound interesting though, I think in open beta there was a dual curse crit fireball build in the witch forums. This was the build, it's highly out of date now though.
Still haven't made up my mind what char to try next, yesterday I just played my 86 mara in domination a bit, but trying new stuff is more fun to me right now and I think i'll go Nemesis again. It's quite thrilling.
I kind of wish decent ES gear would be easier to find, right now playing an ES char is ten times more expensive than playing a Life based char.

Can someone answer me a few question about crit please.
Ok so let's say my weapon has a crit chance of 6.25%,I'm using infernal blow which says it has a crit chance of 7%. When I open my character menu and click on infernal blow,it says that my crit chance is 6.3%,ie the main hand crit chance,both under infernal blow and default attack,but it says nothing for ib crit chance,I can only see the base crit chance when i hover over the gem. Why is that?How can I see the crit chance for infernal blow?
Also,if I take a node that says "Increase critical strike chance with one handed melee weapons" I get the crit also on infernal blow just as long as I am using a one hander right?

I *think* the crit chance on infernal blow is referring to the explosion (as in, the chance of the explosion to crit) not the chance of the attack to crit (which is consistent with the numbers that you are seeing).
I can't guarantee that though.
In which case yes getting 1h crit nodes will increase your crit chance when using infernal blow, but it won't increase the chance of the corpse explode effect to crit (not that you care).

Hmm that is frustrating. I wish the char screen was more detailed. I've been having to make a lot of assumptions as I experiment with my viper strike char.
Since melee skills use the weapon crit my guess would be that the explosion crit from infernal blow gets treated like a spell on the basis that it is listed on the gem the way it is on other spells. I would assume that the explosion crit does not benefit from a melee node.

I do believe you are right about the ignite roll per hit.
The idea of converting all the cold to fire was so that it would all get scaled. I do agree that you open up too much risk (still depends on passive tree) and add more than what's practical. It is a fun idea but less practical than what I'm already doing.
Stacking qual gems that give ignite chance and fire/burn damage plus double or even triple cursing with flam and Q ele weakness plus either temp chains for 50% slower effect expiration or 40% increased DoT damage from vulnerablility. What I've been experiencing lately is if I don't lower the mob's resistances my fireball feels horrible. Fire Trap with conc effect is helpful until I get fireball up to par. Ele resist hurts me a lot but thankfully I can double curse and make a significant difference in the damage I do.

I have looked at that build but my inspiration for this came from a burning prolif crit wand build. I figured why not do it with fireball and that's what I've been doing. Except now I'm changing my mind from crit to stacking c2i since it feels safer and more reliable for Nemesis.

With IB, the weapon crit chance applies to the initial hit of IB. The skill's crit chance applies to the explosion that occurs. That is why you'll sometimes have a big hit and an explosion will happen but mobs caught in the AoE won't burn. And of course the opposite can occur where the explosion crits.

The new hexproof map mod is a bitch and I'm only running non-qual ele weakness LOL. I can only imagine for dual/tri curse setups.
I find (amusingly enough) that the higher the quantity on a map mod, the more often I run it. Which means that I run bullshit like -max and hexproof all the time whereas garbage like "more rare" that is easy gets run much less often. I guess it makes sense (did my first >130 quant map the other day) but still its kinda dumb how I run the obnoxious mods way more often than the reasonable ones.
PS dumping 10 chaos on a palace to get a top roll of 83 quant after quality is really really frustrating. I'd never done maps before release lol.
PPS GGG increased map drop rates but not chisel drop rates Getting the chisels to keep chiseling even only 74+ maps is hard.

GGG increased map drop rates? News to me, it's still RNG like always. The maps are bigger, but personally I find much less maps lately. It's just RNG, though. I once went from 72 to 68 by losing like 20 maps and moving down and not up. Yesterday I played a 74 map and nothing. Only way to fight the RNG is to have a lot of maps to secure falling down far, which is quite the hit to motivation.
