I think the conclusion reached last time was that armor is insane because of unwavering stance + endurance charges (+IR), and evasion is nice with Ondar's guile, but stacking it is kinda useless due to heavy diminishing return. Also, stacking life in the evasion part of the tree was really hard before, but now that you can easily have 250%+ with a strong evasion build, it's prossibly hardcore viable.
Btw, correct me if I'm wrong, but since ST is a projectile, does that mean that Ondar's guile actually work against damage reflected with ST?
On another note, normal Dominus was pretty easy as a point blank ranger, but it's still harder than basically the whole act1 cruel. The whole game feels easier than before aside from the scepter. Spectral throw attacks are evaded by Ondar's Guile, yes. This allows you to achieve 0.75% reflected damage against yourself like most bow builds, even less if you are running an elemental attack-speed based build that drops over half of that damage another 75%. The returns are even okay at ~30-40% evasion if you want to retain some armor with Ondar's. As a result, one-shotting yourself with spectral throw plus evasion is nearly impossible. The way spectral throw works make it very good against reflect anyway, though, as the many small hits makes armor mitigate it very well. Against reflect evasion rolls against your own accuracy so you pretty much need to math it out precisely to figure out whether evasion is actually better than armor in this case.
@Pwere: Ever since the Ranger remake they've been openly (Dex bonus from mobs is now to their evasion and not accuracy anymore) or not so openly (so much life on the right side/middle now) buffing evasion pretty much.

LOL. I was getting mad and tired farming Lunaris 1 in search of a rare Reanimator (only need 2 more mobs for the challenge; got all but like 5 from maps so I chose to search them).
Then I find an unique. I think: great, another crap unique. Pick it up. Realize it's Abyssus, lol. Not bad for a non map drop! Now I'm a bit less sad that I still haven't found a rare Reanimator after like 1h of farming that zone.
Other missing one for me is Undying Evangelist... Unbelieveable considering how often I have had them in maps.

a large part of that earlier evasion build is simply, bringer of rain is op. pretty sure if you wear a bor an armor build can work too

Okay, there's more than a 100 health jump from level 30 to level 35 (scepter of god) mobs. Although the data I'm looking at is far from perfect, sadly. Only shows one monster's values per level... :\ It's a similar jump (~1000 to ~1500) in cruel. Usually the time it takes to do that is quite a bit longer.

This really can't be emphasized enough. Playing a build without stun immunity in this game is so much more challenging. Most of the time you get stunned you end up desynced (at least in my anecdotal experience) so you have to be really careful about what you're doing all the time. You can always use eye which isn't a bad amulet by any means, but eye is expensive. You can play without stun immunity, but it is a completely different game that you have to learn.
Weaver fight without stun immunity is the definition of terror. You get stunned by his little split shot since it does so much damage and then end up desynced because of all the spiders.

I don't think the health alone would be much of an issue. The real problem is that all the mobs in sceptre have stupid abilities like leap slam that makes it hard to disengage, arctic breath that leaves ground ice, the proximety shields that force you to change tactics, and even don't stand in the fire. All these things combined with the additional hitpoints means you're fighting even harder monsters that take a lot longer to kill. Multiplicative difficulty increase followed by brainless zombies without any abilities.
In general, act 3 has a lot of mobs that have really annoying abilities. Pretty much everything in the scepter is terror (minus one mob) whereas most other zones just have one or two mobs that you specifically need to watch out for.

While this is true, ondar's guile, dodge, and spell dodge are somewhat exclusive to evasion builds. Different damage mitigation mechanics stack very well so using as many as you can is superior to say stacking armor. That evasion build should work just fine without Bringer of Rain.

I mean, all the undying have gem skills because they're supposed to be gemlings. It makes sense that they're annoying for us to kill and are pretty dangerous: they're modeled with actual playstyles in mind and their AI lets them do that pretty well.
Also, does anyone know what's up with the spectral figures that show up in the Caverns of Anger that just drift away?

What's a good discharger build? I like the idea of discharge and I think I saw Kripp playing one the other night but I can't remember what it used. Might have had Enduring Cry and discharge. I think he was playing it on Nemesis or Hardcore. Which would make sense with why he was using endurance charges instead of what seems more typical which is frenzy charges. I think the first question is, what class? Shadow? Marauder? Scion?
so I decided to stop being lazy and found it. Didn't expect it to be templar.
Is it still best to use CwDT?

Wow, people have improved a ton in these short races... 25k used to win you the race or at least your class, and now people get 40k somehow?!
|
Yeah, it makes me feel even worse at the races but I haven't practiced enough and done enough races. I got my furthest in the third burst. Thanks to Lag giving me some tips =)
|
Got 20k, 24k and 26k xp in the 3 burst races. Finished with white weapon and 1x iron in the first two, found a white stone axe and used an iron in the 3rd but had reaaally bad RNG in lower/upper submerged.

Isn't there supposed to be changes to DoT with the next content patch? I wonder if that will improve puncture. I'm some what tempted to make a build with it once it gets better. Unless it can be good and no one has figured out how yet.

I theorycrafted a puncture + chill ranger with arctic armor, didn't work.
Actually, I might try adding hatred and chance to flee or something, seems like there's potential there.

One of my low level pvp characters involves using lmp empower poison cloud on a +2 silverbranch and then swapping to multistrike viperstrike, so i'm really hoping the DoT patch is a buff. :D

The puncture gem scales better (well, more) than any other attack gem in the game. Level 20 gives you ~3x the standing bleed, ~3x the running bleed, and 76% phys damage on top of that.
It's also the only attack in the game where attack speed is absolutely dumpster, but deceptively so (in that it increases the tooltip but not the actual damage). At least the shitadel bows are nice and cheap because nobody else wants them. It does suffer from 3L syndrome with bows (pierce+LMP+puncture+????) but curse on hit+vuln is okay, if not ideal.

is there a point to the Blood Magic node anymore with auras being % mana reserved now?

My idea was basically you puncture, then run around avoiding mobs while they're slowed but moving and bleeding.
Does shocked amplify puncture damage btw?

There are still auras with flat mana reduce, like clarity for example.
