Personally I tried a couple builds to mid 40s, (A2 Cruel) before I decided what to play.

If you've never played an ARPG before then just do whatever, you'll figure it out eventually. If you have played an ARPG before then the resources I would strongly suggest you look at are the quest rewards list on the wiki, and the passive tree on the main website. Look over what skills are in the game and get an idea for what kind of character you'd like to play, and from there using both the quest reward list and the passive tree figure out which class you'd like to start with. For example: The moment I saw there were summons in this game, I found the class that needed the fewest levels to get all the minion related skills (Witch) and played that. Then I wanted a character with a bow yet I didn't want to rely on gear that had +elemental damage% so I made a Ranger and built her for physical damage. Right now I saw some of the skills on the shadow side of the tree (namely life on hit and mana/life leech) and am currently playing what I hope to be a tanky/DPS dual wielding claw shadow that may or may not use CI (Chaos Innoculation). Also, wiki Keystone and Notable nodes on the passive tree, they're pretty cool and many builds are focused solely around them. (Keystone Nodes are the biggest ones on the outside of the tree and a few in the middle).

When we did Piety in crematorium (5 man group) I ran up to her alone, threw 2 fire and 2 bear traps and made her run away :D So, anyone that has access to Searing Touch, if you want to play crazy OP and fun trap templar I recommend it fully.

I am thinking about spending a lot of currency to respec into Ice Nova AOE + Freezing Trap. That sounds more fun that freezing pulse, but I don't know if its even good. I really dont feel like leveling up to lvl 70 again though :S Any ideas or people playing Ice witch AOE Nova is right now?

Freezing Pulse is simply in another league. Shotgunning on an AoE spell with fast cast and low cost is stupidly effective. You setup one spell and you have AoE, Crowd Control, Single Target and sustainability.Don't. Trading is a lot more effective. Keep your orbs for high level items. I agree on the item drought in Cruel. It's always been this way. You'd get ok gear in normal, then very few upgrades in cruel/ruthless. I remember one ranger using the same bow to kill normal, cruel and Ruthless Vaal in CB. You either have to play in a party that shares loot, so everyone gets a lot of upgrades, or when you hit a wall, you roll a new character that levels fast with your twink gear, and will eventually find upgrades for your main character (mostly rings/belts/amulets).

If you are not HC (I don't do HC builds) this is where I explained my version of Trap Templar: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=17774343 And this would be my passive tree when it is finished:+ Show Spoiler +

And ofc i got 0 trapnodes ^.^ True traptemplar :D Gems are: Flame Totem + Reduced Mana + Fire Penetration + Added Lightning Dmg (for shock) Firetrap + Firepenetration + Chance to Ignite Firetrap + Concentrated effect Clarity + TempChains + Enfeeble + Reduced Mana I would link 2 fire traps to Increased AoE and fire penetration. And use bear trap+added fire damage for rares and bosses. And I agree, trap passives are weak and not enough of them on main pathways. BTW, this is dual totem build + traps, not really a trap templar :D

You can basically now use half your time for traps (cooldown doesnt allow for much more anyway and you can easily burst them out and then let em regen), and split the remaining time between movement, curses and totemcasting. Not sure why you wouldnt use dualtotem (whatever totem you like) on a trap templar, except for pridereasons.
