Tackles by definition are efforts to steal the ball cleanly away from the player, which are under football rules.
If you add "cynical" its a complete different term, it implies its an unsportmanship tackle that's over the top with potential leg-breaking consequences. Thank god there red cards are 'part of the game' too, otherwise it would be madness.

The one thing that feels sour for me is that fouls like the one Marcelo did may injure people, and badly so, and given the history with the the games from last season, I for myself really start to expect some kind of official reaction from RM/Mourinho. I really don't like tackles like these completely pointless without any tactical reason behind it
I mean he didn't really hit him, but this can end so ugly (like some of the Arsenal players have experienced)
