He definitely wasn't given as much protection as he should have been, but his positioning was poor. You're right about the finish, though. That was absolutely fantastic. The pass was also excellent.

The same reason that referees don't always punish petulant kicks and flicks with red cards. I agree that it could have been punished by a red card, but a lot of referees have a higher standard for what constitutes 'violent conduct'.
