So... why didn't Barton get a red card for hauling Gervinho to his feet and grabbing him by the throat? Probably same reason as last season when him and Nolan didn't get carded for attacking Szcz or his tackle on Diaby. Still, Gervinny deserved his red - funny that Barton had a go at him for diving after falling to the floor like he'd been shot, but if you slap another player you get sent off. And Song was lucky to stay on. Return to 'boring boring Arsenal'?

Should've been Barton red, Gervinho yellow, suspension for Song. The FA will review and correct the terrible calls and non-calls hopefully. Gervinho too naive. Arsenal had some nice link ups but VPS took his chances badly. Not sure why Walcott didn't start but he's really improved over the past season and is much more likely to make something happen than any of the other wingers.

Ambiguous impression of Arsenal game really.

+: good defense, especially zonal marking at set pieces. Finally, a lesson learnt. Ramsey gaining his pace, commanding and confident Scsz (dunno how to spell his name ^^).

-: INCREDIBAD Arshavin, useless Rosicky. The former can throw some decent performances at times, but the latter reminds me of only ridiculous goal to Leyton Orient last season (his
header from Bendtner's assist). Gibbs also subpar this game, plenty of wasted passes.

Won't discuss Gervinho, but the cards should have been the same for both, be it yellow or red. Btw, check out Barton's twitter, he discusses this situation with his friends in detail and makes the point of him being just, kinda funny.

Managed to see parts of L'pool's game. Imo, they looked like a better-than-average typical English team. Very prompt middle and long passes and rare beauty in their game. The result is surprising, after 20 mins it looked like they are about to roflstomp Sunderland.

Gotta make it to the shop tomorrow to get beer for El Classico!

Nah, Gervinho raised his hand to another player. Doesn't matter how hard - or how softly, in this case - the player touches, legally they're not allowed to raise a hand to another player under any circumstances. His red will stand. But Barton should have been sent off, though I don't hold out hope that he will be suspended. He wasn't last year. Song deserves to be for sheer idiocy.

Hoping 'Pool come good. Hard to see who will challenge Man Utd for the top spot, Arsenal are fading without big singings, City and 'Pool are recently thrown together and Chelsea is a mixture of too old and too raw.

What time is the Classico on? Spanish Cup winners Cup, right?

If Downing had scored instead of hitting the post the game probably would've been over. He was really impressive btw in the first half at least. Liverpool do lack creativity, there was better attacking play in the Fulham/Villa match.

A few points to make about the Gervinho - Crapton incident:

1- Gervinho did get caught, but it wasn't hard enough. Look at his left foot next time you watch the replay.

2- Barton should have seen red too

3- Because the whistle wasn't blown before Barton assaulted Gervinho, it should have been a penalty as the foul was in the penalty box. (I'm serious about this... if you know your rules, this is the right call)

4- Song should have gotten red

5- The referee didn't make the decision, because he was looking away. (you can see it on the camera)

Edit:

Overall, the game was fine for Arsenal because they had such a crappy team to be honest. There play was below their standard in the creative side in the middle of the park. I think the 2 players leaving is a huge loss and Wenger needs to get 2 new players in ASAP.

Newcastle did shit all except probably get 2 of our players suspended for 3 games.

The defender did make contact with Gervinho but it was hardly enough to send him to the floor. I know that the slightest touch can trip you up and thereby be a foul, but in that instance the defender was standing straight up with his leg barely out, so Gervinho took the opportunity to dive like he had done already in the game. It isnt a non-contact sport. Pisses me off when pundits seem to think that any touch in the box is a penalty

About the lineup: Mourinho should play like in the second of the five clasicos last season (result 1-1): with 3 defensive midfielders: Alonso, Khedira, Pepe and without a striker. Gives them much more stability and messi had no chance against pepe.
Since it is early in the Season I think Real Madrid has a real chance of achieving a good result in the first leg. I predict a draw or a close win for Real.
