Huh, that's not quite true.
Dinamo Zagreb 0-1 R. Madrid O. Lyon 2-0 Dinamo Zagreb Dinamo Zagreb 0-2 Ajax Ajax 4-0 Dinamo Zagreb R. Madrid 6-2 Dinamo Zagreb
They were a pretty solid team when playing at home (sure, not CL material, but still...) O.Lyon has been sucking lately, too many years in a row losing their key players have really weakened that team. 1-1 at hatftime, 1-7 in the end...that's too suspicious. I could understand how Barça or Madrid could score 6 goals on 45 minutes against a team such as Dinamo Zagreb, but this years' Olympique...not buying it.

That's a Zagreb player winking at Gomis after the fifth goal...come on now...
As a Real Madrid fan I can only say how incredibly sorry we are for eliminating Ajax (not that it was our fault), but the referee was blatantly cheating and O.Lyon vs Dinamo was a joke. Hope you can win the Europa League.

Plus it's not like Lyon scored a whole lot in the champions league anyway, they drawed 0-0 and 1-1 (iirc) against Ajax, and they didn't score against madrid either. But suddenly in the last match they score 7 times, with 6 goals in the last 45 minutes. With 3 of those goals in the first 7! minutes of the 2nd half.
Apparently ARJEL a French betting authority came to the conclusion the results are unusual in a competitive game. So they are investigating it now and the results will be known this thursday afternoon.
edit: Apparently Ajax is also coming with an official statement on what happened yesterday so we'll see what will come out of that, it's getting pretty interesting.

Ajax got 2 valid goals stolen, I would rather investigate here than the Zagreb-Lyon Game.
Zagreb had not won a single game during CL. Even with a win they would not had made it into EL. They had absolutely no reason to figth hard for this game. When they suffered a lucky goal in the beginning of the second half, they simply gave up on the game. Lyon saw hope and decided to figth hard, Zagrab was playing 10 v 11 and had given up on the game, so the end score is not so surprising.
Ajax-Real on the other hand would have been a totally different game if the two perfectly valid goals had not been refused. Who knows, maybe real would not have scored in the last minute and Ajx would have qualified. There is unfortunately no way to know

They probably wouldn't have scored the 3rd goal, in the end Ajax was full out on the offensive with Verthongen on the midfield if you play that risky you always have the chance that you'll get a goal against you. If it would have been a 2-2 in the break the game probably wouldve bled to death...

The Europa League is a joke and it deserves to be treated as such. + Show Spoiler +It was Valencia and Mame Diouf's refusal to stick to their wings that really hurt our attacking ambitions in that game, as evidenced by the final few minutes were Valencia created a bunch of chances by finally going down to the byline. The lack of width this created meant that the Palace defence were more than able to cope as they weren't being stretched. The players in the centre of the midfield didn't actually play that badly, especially Morrison and Gibson, and it wasn't as if the two defensive players on the pitch for Palace's first goal (Fryers and Amos) could do much about that ridiculous strike from 35+ yards EDIT: As much as last night's defeat was painful, we lost our chance to qualify in the home game against Basle. I was at that game and I didn't walk away from OT in a joyous mood, despite our late equaliser. We were fully in control, as we were last night, but defensive errors again cost us a win. I can't think of a time in my life (I've been supporting Man United since I was 4 and I'm almost 25 now) were United have been so consistently poor for such a long stretch or time. I know that this is a re-building year given the youth we have both bought in and are trying to push into the side, but it isn't fun at all. Christmas wish-list: + Show Spoiler +Ferguson to realise that Rooney is not a prolific finisher and never will be. Either play Rooney behind a poacher in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation or up-top in a 4-4-2 formation but never up-top on his own. Hernandez is obviously perfect for this poacher role, but his current injury means that a second player of such calibre is required. Owen can work as a stop-gap but is also injury prone and obviously not a long-term solution, Berbatov is a link-up player like Rooney and can't be a poacher, Macheda probably isn't good enough, and Diouf is a donkey.
Bring in a creative midfielder to supplement Cleverly. Carrick is getting some confidence back but he doesn't get forward enough (and I wouldn't expect him too since he is definitely a defensive-midfielder). Giggs isn't good enough to play in the middle because he simply isn't Scholes even if Ferguson wants him to be, much better used out wide despite his lack of pace. Morrison is creative, quick and good on the ball, but he isn't good enough/experienced enough yet and he has an explosive temper. Gibson can hit cracking long-balls out to the wing and his shots are obviously a massive boon, but he is a bit slow and so is a defensive liability when not played alongside a dedicated defensive midfielder - still, as an attacking-midfielder I think Gibson can make it at United, people should really lay off him. Anderson can worry defences with his attacking runs, but his passing and link up play are lacking - possibly a good option alongside an attack-minded Gibson/Cleverly/Morrison due to his pace and strength, though!
Tie Valencia to the wing, literally if needs be. When he came to United he was amazing, even if he was one-dimensional, because sometimes a player only needs to do one thing over and over if they are good enough at doing it!
Work out a way to get the best out of Ashley Young consistently.
Jones is clearly a defensive-midfielder rather than a centre-back, play him there more often!
What I would play with the current squad (4-2-3-1)!
GK: Lindegaard, RB: Smalling, CB Vidic, CB Ferdinand, LB Evra, DM Jones, DM Cleverly, RW Nani, AM Rooney, LW Young, ST Hernandez
Bench: De Gea, Rafael, Fabio, Carrick, Gibson, Berbatov, Owen
Do you think it would be good for United to buy Sneijder? Imo United doesn't have that good of a team and Ferguson usually gets the best out of it ( except this year in CL :D ). Someone like Sneijder can give a good quality injection into the team on the midfield atleast.
|
Man,.U's midfield is not up to standards with the rest of the team, Sneijder would had been a huge buy.
Btw I'm really excited for the Clasico. I hope we don't see much kicking, eye poking , diving this time around.
