Frostbite 1 is an engine designed for consoles and half-assedly ported over to PC the moment EA smelled they could make money out of angry and disappointed COD-fans.
Frostbite 2 should be a cross-system engine.

BC1 and BC2 were basically beta tests for Frostbite. I can't get an exact source atm because I'm watching like two streams + a download, but I remember that essentially being said in a really early BF3 interview -- that the Bad Company duo was made largely to test the new engine in a multiplayer setting.
This is heavily PC optimized, I know for a fact that they said that on their website that BF3 is made for PC's first and Consoles second. So expect a lot more optimization this time, as said before.
Can't fucking wait.

I have been rather concerned for the game before with them constantly competing with CoD and comparing it with BC2.. now it just looks like its going to be freakin awesome!! I cant wait for a TRUE Battlefield game. Now the only question is.. SC2 or BF3?! haha.

Man I got this year all planned out
Project Reality / Crysis 1 Iron Man Delta playthrough from now to Fall, then Red Orchestra 2, then Battlefield 3, and sometime next year Guild Wars 2.

Man, I am not looking forward to D3 at all. Everything I see about it just doesn't appeal to me.
The highlight game of my year is definitely going to be this, assuming it's good.
I just hope they allow modding so I can have BF3 Project Reality.

I can't think of a FPS that's the third in a series that starts with D for the life of me....

I'm hoping I can stream the game while playing, I think BFBC2 was too powerful of a game though, it'd lag everytime I made a turn on the stream.

Well bf3 is going to look better then BFBC2 from what I have seen so  .
You would have to have one hell of a computer to play bf3 and stream with no lag xD.

the only thing I know is it is going to be within the 12 months of medal of honors release. So no later then october. I expect an announcement at E3 this year. I'll be surprised if there isn't tbh.

BF3 could just be a reskin of BF2 with added destruction and I would be fine with it. Bad Company 2 was okay but it wasn't even close to BF2 or 1942.

Since there probably won't be mod support in BF3 I think your best bet would be sticking to the ARMA series if you want PR.
PR for ARMA2 will be released at some point later this year I think.
