Very true. Fantasy as well in my opinion -- I was walking in the woods one day last year when I realized that Harry Potter totally ripped off LotR ^^ Well, not really, but I suddenly realized there were a lot of similarities.

And to be fair, wasn't SC1 well before the ME universe? A hero uniting divided factions to stand against a seemingly undefeatable enemy isn't exactly something that ME invented, either. On the finer details, maybe there's a point that, but overall, I don't know.

Oh well yeah to be sure. Im just saying that the games current storytelling arc is definitely inspired so to take a jab at ME is a little bush of Blizzard.

I don't think they took a jab at ME's storytelling. All they did was take a jab at ME's ending, which Bioware fully deserves.

On the other hand, given how profoundly bad the SC2 story is, Blizzard has absolutely no right to take a jab at Bioware....

Starcraft 1 came way before Mass Effect.

Starcraft 1 ripped off other sci-fi before it, but not ME.

Still one should mention Warcraft first, as that one was the first "ripoff".
Basically Blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer RTS, but did not get the license from Games Workshop. So they made their own (somewhat altered) Warhammer instead and called it Warcraft.
Was only consequent that they then used Warhammer 40k as a template for the space version known as Starcraft.

Yeah, good thing no one ever mentioned SC1. And went out of there way to exclude it.

Current SC2 arc is a rip off of a lot of things. You're dreaming if you think anyone can come up with something truly original that doesn't at least resemble something else that's already been done. Similarities exist in genres, that's why we group them into genres. There's only so many directions a story can potentially go.

Hell, the argument has been made that you can break any story down into one of two possibilities: A stranger visits or a hero leaves on a journey.

Just because you can find similarities between two stories does not mean one is a rip off of the other.

And lets face it: if SC2 was a deliberate rip off of ME, they'd have done a much better job with it.

Yeah its kind of a moot discussion as the sc2 storyline was hilariously bad anyway. :D
Noone would even want to claim that this was copied from his story.

Blizzard storytelling really is awful -.-

It also reminds me of the time Metal Gear Solid came out. And then every single game had to retell the same story of a programmable virus that kills discriminately.

Like Siphon Filter, but a whole bunch of games were doing it.

To be fair, it's done out of love, as much as I hate the phrase.

Yes, it could be done for pretty much any game ever. But it isn't. Know why? Because when you play Call of Duty, you overlook the clichéd plot because you're there for the action. When you played ME1, you overlooked the lacking combat because you were there for the narrative and the universe. People have invested years into these games, getting involved in the universe, falling in love with the characters, and loving the idea that their choices made a difference.

ME3 is a AAA culmination of a 3 game, 5 year story arc. The fact we can go through it with a fine tooth comb means no one at BioWare did. And as much as gamer-entitlement haters will moan about it, I think they should have. Someone should have stood up and said "Hey uhhh.... This ending has nothing to do with choice at all." Or "Why is the journal and codex harder to navigate? Why cant we holster weapons anymore? Why are we getting lazy on dialogue?" Ect, ect.

I still think it's a great game. I would gladly pay for it again. But, if I can take a page from TotalBiscuit here, I do believe its our duty as gamers and consumers to call these developers out when we feel like they are giving us an inferior product. Letting them know our concerns now means they (hopefully) would shape up in the future, which means better games for us, better sales for them. Everybody wins.

Yeah I mean, you know you are in trouble when the ending to Final Fantasy 7 gave more closure.

It has nothing to do with entitlement. It's just a big wtf ending heh. I'm not even sure how it made it to the public its so wierd.

I think Blizzard writters are a bit clueless on what to do because they need to adapt their Lore to WoW gameplay, and that's pretty hard to do without butcher it.
Telling a good story in an MMO is pretty hard task.
