I don't really play standard tho, just Modern so forgive if I compare everything to modern.
Vraska was fine, she just was in the wrong colors. Want to play her in a control shell? Sphinx's Rev and Verdict just dominated all of the control shells.

M15 looks like it's gonna go down as the best core set, power wise.
Very interesting set.

I'm really psyched for M15. Lots of cool stuff going on.

young pyromaster and a convoke burn spell in standard once m15 hits
|
I can see it replacing some number of Helix (probably 1 or 2) and maybe the single main deck mortars in R/W burn.

Except Vraska is just a bad card in general.
New Garruk seems a lot more comparable to Bolas, to me. Good board control for his +'s, good spot removal for his cheap -, and an ultimate that isn't a must use, but will probably be available to use.

Vraska would also be played a lot more if it was +loyalty instead of -loyalty.

? It wasn't a bad card, it was just GB was the last set of lands to be released, the color never played into the controlling shell that Vraska wanted, it just didn't do anything given the color identity of this set.

I feel like Artifacts-Red Burn could be very good in the next few months.

Very interesting set. M12 was considerably more powerfull: day of judgement, gideon jura, titans, mana leak, solemn simulacrum, birds of paradise, good removal, elvish archdruid, good garruk, rampant growth, dun grove elder, chandra's phoenix, grim lavamancer, timely reinforcements, much played colour hoser cycle
|
True. M12 was kinda crazy, especially the Titans.
|
Weird that they'd print out Divine Favor without Unholy Favor.
Anyway, what colors do you guys think will play solid for the pre release?

+ Show Spoiler [Promos] +
In terms of promos, I think black is the best. I think White and Green are pretty equal, then followed by Blue and Red.
I haven't really looked at the commons and uncommons though, which I think should factor more into your choice.
|
But...but the blue promo is exactly as good as all the others because it clones them right? Right...?
|
"creature you control"
If you open blue and white one you can gain infinitely up to 20 life, which is nice. Removal seems weak in this set?
|
Blue doesn't look to be overly convincing though..
|
Pretty sure white has the best sealed pool for Pre-releases.

Oh guys, if you want to practice deck building for the pre-release/sealed format, I found an online generator.

Black is a huge coin flip. They have great bombs and removals, but at the same time, it has those rares that you don't want to open up in a Pre-Release setting like Waste Not, In Garruks Wake, and that Necromancer thing. White/Red would be safer if you don't want the irl RNG to screw you up.
However, what I see with white is that you'll end up having tons of small tokens, pumped by the paragon, and hopefully you open a good bomb (Seraph of the Masses, for example) cuz otherwise, your opponents bombs would slowly eat away at your tokens.
Red is a pretty good color cuz of the good removals and bombs. Generator Servant works great with any color, and with green, you can put down the 6-7 bomb drops 2 turns earlier and they get haste.

I'm seriously considering blowing 50 bucks and buying a mono-red control deck, driving around, and stomping some tournaments for prize money. Shrapnel Blast, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Searing Blood? There are so many decent red cards that I feel like I'm missing something really huge and obvious about why this wouldn't work.
