I HIGHLY recommend people who enjoy the the BG series to look into the Might and Magic (not Heroes of Might and Magic) series, starting from Magic and Magic VII (7).

Similar style of leveling/party/skill/etc. (cRPG genre) but the game is played from a first person perspective and IMO it's the best cRPG series ever made. MM VII especially is just a master piece with an amazingly interactive story line, tons engaging side quests, a very good/rewarding leveling/specialization system and lots of replay-bility (9 classes each with a 2 promotions, and a choice to go down the good/evil path). Plus, the game is packed with cool things such as the fly ability which wouldn't be possible in a 2D game.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ saving this here because I use it, don't know how to make it, and don't know it's name

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, bring a normal sword to kill mages with pfmw. or get a ring of inviz and a cloak of non-detection (from the tavern at the promenade) and just wait cloaked until his buffs end.

he has fire shield, armor and other crap on him, you need to breach him 2-3 times to get the pfmw off. in the mean time you are toast. sword of flame is ideal for dealing with mages - it's unenchanted and has fire damage that goes trough stoneskin and interrupts spells.

I always thought it counts as +1 magic weapon.

This game was tons of fun. Because it's just so hard and frustrating when the dices are not with you, and there are many ways to approach a battle.

Only played it through 2 or 3 times though.
Monk and Sorceror i remember, there were some warrior starts but i'm not sure i finished any.

I think the boss from BG1 instagibbing my entire party one after the other is one of my fondest video game memories, close to my first FF7 playthrough.

After a LOT of difficulty, finally managed to do the full install of the Big World Project! So sweet playing BG1 with BG2 graphics on 1440X900 resolution and a shitton of bonus content mods installed!

I expect to take around 6 months to finish this. Probably gonna make a wild mage (heck, why not ) or a druid.

I'm ina similar situation.

I rolled a blade and picked up Jan (and later Imoen), Aerie, Korgan (/Sarevok), Edwin and Viconia. Just picked Edwin up and am in the middle of resolving their quests in the crypt. Party members are pretty hostile to each other, but it's an entertaining combination so far, and I don't think Aerie is the violent type so I'm not worried about having to reform the party due to conflicts.

Just completed the Illithid and Beholder in the Underdark tonight... The fuckers

Took a high toll on my patience to get each room pulled planned perfectly with traps and spells memorized to fit the situation - It is very rewarding now its done though

Now for the Drow-city.. tt

Yes!! I'll tag along. I installed BG1+2 today, BGT(to play bg1 on new engine) and the widescreen mod.

I've picked up edwin and viconia, and booted everyone else bet imoen. So far I'm heading into the kobold mines uh oh

Edit: I gotta say, playing this on modern hardware is just so funny. Quick Saving and Loading from an SSD makes this game so much more enjoyable.

Quick question:

Is there any other way to avoid/prevent vampire level drain aside from the negative plane protection spell? Any items? If so, any idea where to get them?

I progressed into Chapter 3, but I'm still doing all the Athkatla side quests, and I get jumped repeatedly by the vampires. This usually results in at least one character dying because I can't use spells without getting attacked by the Cowled Wizard assholes! Not a major issue, but pretty annoying.
