Yeah that stuff was just added to add another layer of depth to competitive. No need to manage it for regular game play with the exception of some really bad natures on certain pokes. It can help with challenge runs if you grind some ev's or get a good nature, but you don't need it. Until you get into battle tower/ subway etc there is no need for it, and those shouldn't be your first run pokemon being used anyways

On my Nuzlocke run of Black 2, I recently lost 3 pokemon, Papaya (the Stoutland), Lily (the Gothita) and WOOD MAN (the Gurdurr) all yesterday - primarily in Double/Triple battles when one of my pokemon would get focused down, and Papaya dropped due to an opponent using Pursuit when I tried to switch him out :/

Poke, Great, and Ultra suck versus legendaries. Period. End of report. You could throw 200 pokeballs while Luigi is frozen and at 1 HP and still not catch that thing.
Dusk Balls and Timer Balls are the most reliable though and it is doubtful that you'll have any pokemon strong enough to take advantage of a Nest ball. Dusk Balls and Timer Balls are the most reliable because they are readily available, effective, and CHEAPER than an Ultra ball.

Also, if any Pokemon know False Swipe that is great for getting it down to exactly 1HP

if you have your good rod or bettermyou can fish for the lantern fish things while crossing over to the other region in the water, so that would be a good suprseaman and is a bulky water type with a good typing for tanking and has a decent movepool.
