Heres some examples: Dark (Gore): + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() Dark (Atmosphere) + Show Spoiler + ![]() Shiny Art style (Be speific, do you mean shiny from spells or from back ground? etc + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() DONT DO THIS: This game is gonna be lame its gonna look like WoW and not a dark game like I want. Agreed. Also, nice screenshots. Quite a lot of gore right there. My impression of the art controversy: A few (like, 3) people genuinely concerned about the art style and eloquent enough to discuss it. All the other change-challenged people going: "OMFGROFL, someone put a rainbowz in my Diablo!". This is the screenshot I'm talking about: link It's a rainbow. We know. Get over it. Also: Do we/gamers actually care about graphics? I mean: BW and CS1.6 compared to SC2 and CSS. I'm done with this whole art thing.

And it is a bit to "flashy" for my taste, just comparing D2 to D3 whirlwind proves exactly what i mean. Saw some similar abilities, throwing some throwing stars that for some reason has to glow bright yellow etc. On the other hand the Sorceress and her powers look pretty spot on! Unless i can find a low-key class whoose fighting does not look like a rainbow on LSD i think it will be all Sorceress for me. *edit* The art and such seem like a hot topic, just saying that for me i get a lot more immersion in a game if i swing a hammer and i hear a reasonding *thud* and see blood spatter rather than something like *caching* and stars and sparks go flying in shiny colours. And the former just seems more... Diablo to me.

It will be much like D2, going through dungeons with other people. So if you didn't like that you probably wont like D3.

Reduca gamma, reduce brightness, increase contrast, and you got yourself a dark and desaturated game.

I'm done with this whole art thing. graphics and visual art style are two different things. while i am still going to play the game, I am disappointed by the fact that they ditched the dark moody style. it like people complaining about zelda wind waker. sure it might be a fun game, but some people just dont like that visual style.

Or where is D2 that "dark and gloomy"? Act 1? It was night and that was about it. Only the crypts and stuff stick to my head. Act 2? Same as Act 1 just even less Dark. Act3? The underground looked awesome, but the "top"? You fought mainly little kobolds... Not even most of the enemies were "dark". Act4? Was also pretty bright Act 5? Basically nowhere... Some stuff looked cool (Act 1+2+3 undergrounds/crypts) but the whole rest?...

First thing i don't like too much and i would like to know your opinion on it. If you die, you spawn at a designated place with all your gear. I really thing this is crap as getting back your stuff was always a challenge filled with "adrenalin" in previous parts. Spawning in town was always reasonable. I really don't like the idea of spawning few steps back where you died with full gear. For me it seems that Blizzard is again trying to make the game very simple as they did with sc2. I am really worried that it will be close to wow, which i hate with all my heart. The game enviroment looks decent though and hopefully it will be. I don't mind some bright places...don't need to be in a dark tomb, cave or sewer all the time. Another thing i dislike is the bright colorful effects of every little shit you do in the game. Every special ability is all colorful and it glows half of your screen. They really need to calm down with this bullshit as it will look more like 4th July than creepy diablo game. I also hope the sound effects and noise in the game will be decent, i mean when i remember playing diablo 1 and met the Butcher for the first time i nearly crapped myself. Those kinds of sound have to be involved!!!

Act 1 was dark in the cathederal mostly, caves and otehr places yeah but the cathederal scares the fuck outa you especially when u walk in a door way and get shot down by a group of those lightning fuckers and drop to 2 hp >.< Act 2 was dark in the tombs but not as bad as caves, other than that fairly open and light. Act 3 was dark in caves and durance of hate was dark as well. Act 4, well its hell... kinda always dark, exept for the lava ^.^ Act 5 was not dark at all, exept for caves as always and some select places, but one of the more light places.

The vast vaaaast majority of these acts aren't 'dark' at all. Act1 + Show Spoiler + ![]() Act2 + Show Spoiler + ![]() Act3 + Show Spoiler + ![]() Act4 + Show Spoiler + ![]() Act5 + Show Spoiler + ![]() I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It isn't the games colour palette that decides whether the game has a grim atmosphere that grips you through to the end... think of the games that did it best: Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Diablo 1, Penumbra 1-3, etc; What sets these games apart isn't the fact that all you can see is black, grey, brown, and maybe some bright red blood rather that they have remarkable soundtracks and set you up in an environment in which you see how harsh things are. It isn't greyscale that scares the shit out of you in Diablo 1, it is "FRESH MEAT!" then dying almost instantaneously while soiling yourself. Amnesia keeps you pissing yourself by ensuring you aren't sure what is real and what is fake, and likely the best soundtrack of any game in the genre like ever. Just sitting in a room with the lights on with the soundtrack playing is enough to cause me feelings of dread... Hell, Diablo 3 isn't even that bright of a game: + Show Spoiler + ![]() I really fail to see the issue here.

does anyone know if there will be tortured naked dead bodies like in d2? that was cool. not saying i liked it, but i would like d3 to go that extreme, even more extreme. seeing some really gruesome shit will bring back the d2 theme. its not the colors entirely. it does influence the feel of the game significantly, but I don't see the issue with it. Maybe they're going by textbook color theory too much using greens and blues, etc. D3 just needs some gloss i think, to make it a little more realistic and less pastel like. any place that is enclosed like dungeons and stuff are ideal to scare people off since theres less light. i don't really agree on the lighting of the dungeons... there should be some unknown spots where the player can't quite tell, but I completely agree on gameplay and strategy aspect of positioning urself with the hoarde. i don't think d2 was that scary. i only remember 1 instance in diablo 1 and thats it. so to dedicate the entire game on scaryness isn't intended. just play the scare card throughout the game (which isn't that hard to do) and it'll be good.

I mean, a lively wilderness can quickly become a very 'dark' place depending on what's living there.

Unfortunately the supposedly darker areas later in the game won't be seen until the game is released.
