I spent 3 hours playing D2 Eastern Sun mod. Oh what good memories. Can't wait to be disappointed by for Diablo 3 to come out and some time for mods to find a way to rectify whatever limits the vanilla game has.

http://www.pathofexile.com Ohh man that game looks so good. Interesting its free to play as well, I wonder how the actual game plays. Being a free game and all there's probably going to be micro translations for a lot of stuff. I hope that doesn't affect the overall game play.

why would it be free? it seems pretty sellable

There's more D3 talk in the path of exile thread than there's D3 talk in this thread.
The two games will inevitably be compared, and if you're gonna pick something to pseudo mod, you might as well do it the bullshit thats been derailing this thread since page 150 first. If anything, his post is just as relevant, and he's showing what people mean by dark and gory as compared to actual D3.
This won't turn into a full blown discussion about PoE, but a little comparison never hurt anyone.

About the real money system, At first I didn't like it either, but when you think about it it's perfectly understandable. The alternative is D2 where there were(and are) a million spammers ruining public games and idiots who go to those sites and buy that stuff and often get cheated. Whether or not bliz has this real money system there will be people who buy great items and this is the way for bliz to control it and that's better than the alternative.

Seriously that was an actually important stat in diablo 2 was your light radius (long as you're not using map hack) Looks like they just cranked up the light radius and made that stat obsolete. Overall I really appreciate the fan altered screenshots a lot more then the blizzard screenshots. No, they don't. The second pics hurt my eyes. They're way too dark. I can barely see the staircases in the second one. It looks more like a medical hazard than a good time to me. You've clearly never played diablo 1 or 2 and if you did play diablo 2 it was probably with map hack so you had no light radius to worry about. For me personally its the fright factor of the dark as well, you don't know if there's a butcher hiding in that darkness in front of you, until you get there and actually illuminate it to see what's actually there. The only areas in the entire game as dark as you are "remembering" are the various caves in Act 1. That's complete and totally bullshit and you know it. Go back and play diablo 2 without any map hack and then try walking through most of the game without any upgrades to your light radius and then tell me that the only times its dark is various caves. I think you're just remembering it completely wrong. Maybe you played on a really low gamma setting or something. I'm sure you'll be happy to know that a brightness/gamma adjustment feature should make it for launch. I played on the default gamma settings
Then you're blind or oblivious. I could see every inch of every screen in D2 with the default light radius - nothing "snuck up on me" and I was using the normal gamma settings. You're just blowing this way out of proportion. D2 already made the world of Diablo FAR brighter and more colorful that Diablo 1 ever was, and D2 in general was a pretty bright game in most areas. This complaining is just getting ridiculous.

Well I don't care if there's D3 talk in the PoE thread or if there's chocolate talk in the peanut butter thread, I just pointed out that there is (or will be) too much PoE talk in the D3, feel free to go to other threads and "pseudo mod" around there yourself, but I'm coming here for D3 info and if I want to see PoE I go to the PoE thread.
I'm not saying they should all get banned or anything, but knowing how X vs Y discussions tend to pan out (hi@LoL/DotA/HoN) I'd rather have them stop now than 50 pages later. :|

Love the little bit of history... However at some point, I can't help but feel that none of that feels fun...
I don't mind the idea of permadeath (I have/had a lot of fun playing roguelikes) but D2 always had a weird feel to it... Being able to save and exit or drop a tp at the drop of 2 buttons was what made it easy to not die in pve, but playing over the internet there will always be the possibility of dying to a DC. So the Hardcore is just frustrating.
Add that entire layer of people who gank each other and that you don't need to play with other people and it all feels strange... The guy who hits lvl 99 first isn't the best player, he's probably just a bit persistent and with a lot of friends/clan. Call me Softcore... but that whole meta game is not my cup of tea...
No, it's very frustrating. I would say shamelessly I've raged tears from dying in HC, something no other game has even come close to doing. Everything was also a little bit more real on D2 given you can sell items on ebay for very easy amounts of high cash (Windforce Bow ~$40). Then a trading website called d2jsp got really big, where you basically trade "Forum Gold" on a forum, and then log into the game and swap goods. Of course, it sounds easy that someone could jack your shit, but considering the lack of people and trading sites on a 10 year old game, no one stole (and those who did were blacklisted very quickly). And You could buy FG for cash money too, so losing an HC character very much made it clear you were losing $300 in potential.
But I have never laughed harder in my life, when some 'mysterious' lvl 39 kills a bigshot lvl 80 in a duel with a twink by tricking the lvl 80 into thinking he's a random by wearing shit gear when he was looking, and I never had more adrenaline pumping through my body then when trying to guess the passwords of the biggest clan's baal runs, get in before it filled up, party up before someone noticed my name, and PK a lvl 90 in their own room, after they were such dickheads to anyone who isn't in their clan. There was nothing funnier than PKing someone when you weren't 'supposed to' because of guild rules, bla bla blah bullshit.
No game just invigorated you so much! And of course, I think only very, very sadistic people played on HC. You had a very small number of people who liked the challenge, and these were the type of people who made guilds just so they could get to lvl 99 Necromancer named CLANX first when the season reset, and then you had people like me, who just find pleasure in ruining other people's days, and find even more pleasure in ruining the day's of people who like to ruin people's days, and it's a fight to fuck the other over. Get it?
May sound like I'm an asshole, and yea, kinda. But playing HC was a choice, and you'd die about 30 times before even hitting lvl 70 for your first time (meaning you lost MANY chars at lvl 60) when you first start out, so anyone who played HC KNEW what they were doing, and were PKers themselves.

It was one word in an interview that could have been a mistake, or he actually said something he shouldn't have. But Blizzard said several times there would only be 3 difficulty levels, that could be something related to hardcore. Who knows, it wouldn't be the first time Blizzard has done something noone expected. Not even concerning D3. It's on Blizzards official site, and they know that it's in that interview since it blew up on the forums. If it wasn't meant to be there it would've been edited out by now. It might not be an entire new difficulty level but it might be a new mode that springs off of the story or whatever. We don't know yet, but I'm pretty sure it's meant to be in that interview. Still, several people have been talking like it's a 4th new difficulty setting, when it could actually just be a diferent name for something. I would be surprised even if the lack of information on it turned out to be Blizzard trolling everybody. It's just too soon to say there will be a 4th difficulty when every time someone asked about it before they were very sure about there being only 3. Well, the official article mentions hell and inferno modes, and the most recent official screenshots show normal and nightmare (http://d3db.com/static/images/pe2011fi/fl002.jpg), so a 4th difficulty looks promising.

I'm going to wait 3 months to buy it, see if the Chinese ruin the market or not (they will) and then just go online and buy a character instead of having to play one. It'll cost me less in terms of hours>money (if=work).
Also not getting to customize your character?... what the fuck am I playing LoL/HoN/DotA or am I playing Diablo? Fuck stats and all that, new generation games suck ass because they're all directed to the broad mass.

I played HC and I never went out of my way to PK someone... thats not to say I wouldn't back down from a fight but there is more options than PK and noob.
Well, I suppose I did PK a few people, but that was more of a redemption kind of thing. I'd be the guy hunting you down after you killed players from my clan.
I do have to agree though, HC had an atmosphere to it that I have never experienced again... maybe Runescape before they killed the wild, but even that isn't quite the same. Nothing quite like testing your metal against someone else for all to see. Well, six others... and maybe all the people you brag to afterwards.
I must say though, while PoE looks interesting, that third screen hurts my eyes. Wtf why would you choose that color pallet? A game shouldn't have to make your eyes bleed for you to see that it is a gritty world full of injustices. Infact, I think the environment itself, the characters present, and the music set the atmosphere much much better. Case in point, the scariest games I ever played was the first Diablo 2, and Amnesia. Both games are terrifying, but it isn't because your screen is dark... it is scary because of the gloomy music, the world without hope, and the idea that anything around any given corner can kill you at any given moment. I think most people can relate to loading up Diablo 1, going into the church and dying mercilessly to the Butcher.
"FRESH MEAT!!"
Or in Amnesia, being completely isolated, yet being unable to fight back against anything you come accross. Not knowing what is real, what is your imagine, who/what/where that creepy noise is coming from... coupled with the ever terrifying moans for mercy from people you have yet to see.
And what both games did that tied it all together was that excellent musical score. Sure both games were kind of dark, but you don't come away thinking the world is a cruel unforgiving place because the lights are out. That is just ridiculous.

The only difference is that the customization in Diablo 3 is more fluid. You can swap things in and out and customize much easier.
