@tenbagger: Barkley over Dirk in terms of defense by far. Look at his Steals and Blocks... defense is a lot more than steals and blocks. also, dirk has career averages of 1 steal and 1 block, which isn't that bad. That's true, steals particularly aren't an absolute measure of good defense. For example, charles oakley didn't get many steals or blocks. But he was a very good defensive player. His one on one post defense, help defense and overall team defense was excellent.
Shane Battier is today's best example.

Sadly, while having some of the best perimeter defense, Battier gets absolutely no recognition when it comes to DPOY awards. It's quite meh to be honest.

I think the league has changed to much to compare the two. Dirk's style works in this era's NBA more. We have a lot more combo fowards that play 3/4. Centers that play 4/5 guards that play 1/2. I think Barkely would have a harder time in his prime playing in the kinda league we have now.

Knew it before the season started, jennings for rookie of the year. Haters keep hating!

I am convinced that people think Dirk is a worse defender than he actually is simply because he looks like an unathletic, goofy white guy, limbs flailing awkwardly.

dirk is the reason i started following the nba 6 yrs ago, so i have absolute respect for the guy. but the media, especially espn, gives him no respect at all. Take the game last night, for example, dirk hits a buzzer beater and in the highlight video, the espn guy says smth along the line of "Dirk's done that before (clutch plays)....at least in the regular season." He has hit a lot of game winners in the playoff (the most famous one is in gm 7 vs Spurs), and averaged 25 and 11 in nearly 100 playoff games, so i have absolutely no idea why the media disrespects him so much..

Because he was supposed to be the great white hope, and then he failed us.

Choked like mad vs Wade and the Heat while up 2-0 in the finals. Until he proves that he can get it done on the biggest stage again, he'll always be labeled just another soft 7 footer who can't carry his team in the clutch.

Also getting schooled by 8th seeded goldenstate doesnt help either.
|
Also the fact that he's European and the NBA (no matter how hard they try) has taken a long time in recognizing their is talent over there.
With Brandon Jennings coming over from Europe and tearing shit up, kids trying to go from high school straight to Europe, and Ricky Rubio saying fuck Minny this is all some funny business.

So, LeBron is garbage because his team got smashed 4-0 in the finals and then last year nearly got swept by ORL?
edit: to Roffles

No one is saying Dirk is garbage.

to be fair to call it dirk choking isnt right.
+ Wade had the most phantom ass calls that series known to basketball. Game 3 Dallas should have won regardless though.

Wait a sec, wasn't Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Ewing ... basically everybody except Jordan in the 90s a choker?

Malone and Ewing - yes... Stockton wasn't really a crunch time player anyways, although he had some HUGE moments, as did Barkley.
So, no? O_O;

Pistons getting face planted. Not that I expected anything less.

How does the points system for this fantasy work? I total'd all the points categories (3s points boards assist steal, etc) and subtracted TO's (I dont know how they factor in minutes / shooting % so i left that alone)... and I was like "ya... I had many more points than everyone but Cyric, I should move up"
then I check today to see my position is still the same, and 2nd place tifa got +1 even though my stats last night were much better.
how the fux does this system work, lol?

Each team is ranked in each individual category and assigned points for their ranking. Since this league has 11 teams, being in first place in a particular category gives you 11 points, second 10 points, etc. In the case of the TOs category, the team with the least amount of TOs gets 11 points, second least 10 points, etc. A team's overall ranking is based on the total amount of points it has from all 9 categories.
