Ah, maybe then it wasn't intentionally reusing a theme, either there were some similar melodies that people noticed and theorized were "early versions" of Shanghai Teahouse.

If you only play the hardest difficulty, you get used to it. It takes some time but still. It also depends on whether you can see openings easily or not and whether you can remember them. Still, getting all the spell cards on extra is so hard.
Hm, who knows. I'm a pretty melodic listener. If parts of one song were used by another, I usually notice that. Funnily enough, I'm terrible at music.
Yeah, I always feel like the player character and the opponent aren't talking to each other and just saying random things. Nothing is coherent, except for the main reason why they fight (boss releasing fog or whatever).
If only there was less on Comiket. They need to make room for other stuff. I have no favorite genre, so it's probbably not that easy. I dislike rap and hip hop though.
I'm pretty mannered and if it's my own fault, I obviously wouldn't rage. Yeah, you have to start early to become really good at fighting games. Playing as many genres as a kid would certainly help a lot.

The last few years I haven't found anything I liked a lot, mostly decent ones, some pretty good ones like (including this one... also i like how he made those notes bang, very fitting for how strong those notes are in the original ost xD), though I stopped looking through every release of his the last couple years. Idk if it's because of his "quality" or just his style/interests changing.
(Stuff like his vaizravana, to the limit, under world, storm, rigid paradise, were 9/10s for me)
@second song Dang, that part at the beginning is really ear catching. Wish the song coulda sounded more like that throughout.

And a really good one at that! This is probably my ideal Desire Drive remix. The main melody should be synth in my opinion It just lends itself that way much better. Sure orchestral and electric guitar can work, but synth just sounds RIGHT. You also have the same/similar drum/breakbeat gently in the background while the original tune plays, but then gets tone down into basic rock when the vocals start. That is an amazing touch that really goes to showcase why the original was so good. I really like it when songs do this. And the vocals fit the song nicely, well done to Yuki My only very minor complaint I have with the song is the electric guitar solo at 3:12. I really liked how the electric guitar and the rock drums were playing the backseat here. It gives that classic Japanese Pop Rock style + Show Spoiler +which usually always include guitar solo... wait a minute... which I really enjoy. I would've love to seen more synth solo there. But the guitar solo is short and it works well enough, so it's all good. Song sort of ends abruptly with a sparkle and die down effect 2. Racoon HeartNext up is Ms Racoon's theme, Futatsuiwa from Sado I know Mamizou had a lot of popularity and didn't know if it was from the song or the character design. To be honest, I don't think her song, Futatsuiwa From Sado, is that great. And that's why I probably didn't like this song as much as the others. It starts up with a pretty cool space effect style, then the main theme comes after the drum beats. We have the power vocals from ucchi and I think it fits the song very well But like I said, I just don't really like the song and the remix very much 3. 月夜のBlack BirdOh wow, a Rumia remix of A Soul as Red as a Ground Cherry. Who was that Rumia fan in this thread, I forgot lol Starts up a bit different compared to the last two, which had similar style. This was has a bit more tinge of jazz-y feel mixed in. When I first heard the song, I sort of expected ucchi to do the vocals, but they decided to go with the happy feel route with Yuki. Except the song isn't really done very happily and is pretty slow paced. I would've liked to see the song take the full happy route like the Last Remote song, if Yuki was going to do the vocals. I think this would've been a lot better with ucchi singing and giving it more power feel. 4. 覚醒のファンシーTHIS INTRO, HEARTFELT FANCY, :LSBWOEFUWOEHIF:JLKDSHKJSDHF SO GODLIKE hold on let me listen to it again so I can make a rational assessment All right, I'm sane again. This song goes to show that Yellow Zeb... er R-Note can still do the rock genre. Awesome Now Heartfelt Fancy is a very ambient song and the decision for Yuki to the vocals is FANTASTIC. The song isn't meant to be happy but her vocals fit so much better than ucchi would've done for this style. Not song isn't heavy at all, which again goes back to the roots of the original. And the song sort of kicks up on the second phrase of the song. The electric guitar solo at 2:10 is very simple yet effective further enhancing up that smooth ambiance to lead up the the climax at the end with a FANTASTIC outro This has the be one of the best song ending I have heard. Just listening to it puts me in euphoria 5. APPLEA very short title, and one can guess what the song is going to be. Has this crazy synth start with hints of stylized Japanese ambiance in the beginning and sort of has me wondering will be like. Then the vocals kick and it's another ambient song. I really like the synth and drumbeat put together to give that mild trance/techno feel. It's a crazy clash of traditional Japanese and synthetic ambiance. Put in some piano and drumbeats and you got a hodgepodge of a song I feel like ucchi was the right choice, but the song wasn't really in my taste. Sort of felt too trippy lol You're 0-2 uchhi, please have a good song 6. LEADING!NOW THAT'S ANOTHER GREAT GUITAR INTRO... then kicks into this I want to say... mismatch of vocals... It just sounds... off I know it's kinda suppose to be a key change thing but ughh...... 1:02 WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS PART MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL Things sort of change up and at 2:27 it gets into the main melody and sounds actually decent This is what the song should've been entirely like. Punk rock style, like they did with the intro. Like Green Day, Sum 41, etc Another cool outro (I'm a sucker for this type of stuff) to finish the song on a bright note but... that doesn't make up for the first half of the song HOW DO THEY FUCK UP GHOST LEAD THIS BAD 0-3 ucchi... 0 for 3 ;_; 7. 星屑アイズBack to Imperishable Night to do another pretty under-remixed song: Illusionary Night ~ Ghostly Eyes. Now I could be wrong, but doing a happy remix of this song is NOT the way to go. Just listen to the original + Show Spoiler +I'm not saying happy versions cannot work, but I feel this wasn't executed well. It just feels off. Everything about the song. It's really slow, so it's kinda like a ballad, yet it's suppose to give a happy feel so again another mismatch of styles. As a side note, I would KILL to see Yuki sing a hyper happy song where she sings really fast. All the ones in this album, she sings pretty slow. Also this song features electric guitar solo exactly the same from the original, which further accentuates this problem. Slow, serious guitar solo with a slow want to be happy song 8. 雨に想えば ~Rain~Last song. Last chance to redeem yourself ucchi This time, it's Sealed Cloud Route from TH12 And did ucchi deliver THANK YOU Now we have a true somber ballad style song which ucchi does brilliantly Set to the beautiful background of orchestra and acoustic guitar Nice and relaxing yet, engaging bringing you in, with the strength from ucchi vocals and the melody. Simple yet very effective With a very nice ending leaving on a major key to have that sense of fulfillment So we have song stellar songs, some mediocre ones, and some absolutely terrible ones. I've done 2 Yellow Zebra (R-Note) reviews in the past and it always seems this way. Have a few gems mixed in with mediocre and bad. No worries though, as long as good songs come out I am very happy. TLDR Overall this album was a mixed bag, and I recommend Desire Drive (1), Heartfelt Fancy (4), and Sealed Cloud Route (8) If you didn't want to read through the whole thing

Holy shit, what is this game you're working on / composing for??? Tell me about it! Seems like it's been in development since 2009? I think I may remember you talking about it before, or me listening to a few of your music arranges before (or was it someone else here...). Must have been years already since then. Are you making all the music and do you actually know the others in person or how did you find this project?
Also I was going to say the music was (and I say this with a very high standard in mind) passable (and good for a fangame). But then I got to the part at 1:35 AND WOW!!! That beautiful orchestral sound! SO BEAUTIFUL and ear catching! (And the other parts later on that are like that)
Damn, very well done. So good I listened to it all and 'm going to listen to it again Some parts could be improved but a lot of it did contribute as buildup to those really awesome parts and those awesome parts made the piece.
How long did it take to make that?
Edit: Ok, I've been looping that over and over since I first posted.

Just listen to the original + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtAHoCxRUks I'm not saying happy versions cannot work, but I feel this wasn't executed well. So good I listened to it all and 'm going to listen to it again Some parts could be improved but a lot of it did contribute as buildup to those really awesome parts and those awesome parts made the piece. How long did it take to make that? I have met the lead developer once, he's pretty cool.
it's kinda hard to say how long it took since it's been a series of stops and starts with this one - I had a few early ideas on how to approach it and kept playing with those for a while before ragequitting for months at a time. what you hear is the product of about a week's worth of effort in october when I forced myself to do it in China when I had nothing else to do + 2 weeks in late january right before 1.0 came out... so idk, maybe something like 20-40 hours all told?
I haven't made it a big secret that I didn't really like the source material, which was a big part of the struggle of trying to arrange it, but in the end people seem to like it

Omg that's really cool. So the lead developer's team wasn't consistent but in the end, with control of the project, he was able to combine everyone's work and still release it. Interesting!
Wow that's really good. Sounds like this has a lot of polish. I think it could use more and a stronger bass for some of the really beautiful parts (like the part like at 1:35, could use some really low, soft but strong strings). But the more I listen to it the better it is. Sometimes music is good at first but tires quickly, sometimes music doesn't sound good but then grows on you the more you listen and understand it. This is the latter X)
Honestly it felt like this coulda been worked on for a couple years, or like 100 hours. Then again I guess it's easier when you already have a base to arrange and not make it from scratch.
Just check your soundcloud if u wish, that loop count keeps going up!
Man life feels so short when you think of projects that take several years. I hugely improved my work ethic and changed my priorities to make more time for art/music, but this semester and next year will be very very busy for me, so in the end I think I have even less time now despite improvements in efficiency xD
Hoping that when I graduate college that I'll have more time and (perhaps more importantly) peace of mind to work on things. Right now my workload is over 45 hours a week + stress, so compared to this I like to think I'll actually be freeer when i enter the work force? X)

(And the other parts later on that are like that) Damn, very well done. So good I listened to it all and 'm going to listen to it again Some parts could be improved but a lot of it did contribute as buildup to those really awesome parts and those awesome parts made the piece. How long did it take to make that? Edit: Ok, I've been looping that over and over since I first posted. the game itself is basically a touhou fire emblem. development of the game itself has been like 7 years since people have been joining and leaving over time; I was contacted via reddit sometime in like 2012 maybe? and that was to finish out the remaining 5 tracks of the game. there have been others before me, and their music is decent compositionally but their samples weren't much better than MIDI. I haven't made it a big secret that I didn't really like the source material, which was a big part of the struggle of trying to arrange it, but in the end people seem to like it Omg that's really cool. This is the latter X) Honestly it felt like this coulda been worked on for a couple years, or like 100 hours. Then again I guess it's easier when you already have a base to arrange and not make it from scratch. Just check your soundcloud if u wish, that loop count keeps going up! Man life feels so short when you think of projects that take several years. I hugely improved my work ethic and changed my priorities to make more time for art/music, but this semester and next year will be very very busy for me, so in the end I think I have even less time now despite improvements in efficiency xD Hoping that when I graduate college that I'll have more time and (perhaps more importantly) peace of mind to work on things. Right now my workload is over 45 hours a week + stress, so compared to this I like to think I'll actually be freeer when i enter the work force? X) aren't you majoring in music or did you change that
the real issue is that you have to make time to do stuff like this no matter what; otherwise life just sort of passes you by. like, I'm not even super busy with my life but somehow other stuff keeps creeping in. some of the most productive months I've had with music is when I've told myself to spend a bare minimum of 15 minutes a day on music, because after a while it eventually it hits a tipping point where I just *need* to finish it. sometimes that's like the 50% point, sometimes more.
another thing - even though this project took 7 years to get to a first release, the fact that it got released at all is the exception to the rule when you consider how many projects that have sprouted up and never been completed in the West. I've been contacted to do other (touhou) music several times through all of 3 years of me working on this project, and this is the only project that's actually come out. the Eastern scene at least has the benefit of things being centralized at comiket and RTS so there's more incentive to push to hit those releases, but in the west it's sort of like... how do you even get recognition for your work?
anyway, thanks for the feedback, though I probably won't be touching this piece anymore since I really just don't want to deal with it again lol ~_~

The album is: + Show Spoiler +Toho Saiseikyo ~Truth in Darkness~ The circle is R-note, formerly known as Yellow Zebra, and you will recognize their two vocalists right away The dynamic duo of Yuki and ucchi Also love the album art + Show Spoiler +Yuyuko and Youmu makes such a good pair Hnnng The color palette makes such a nice combination too Anyways on to the music! 1. デザイアシューティング Desire Drive! Just listen to the original + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtAHoCxRUks I'm not saying happy versions cannot work, but I feel this wasn't executed well. TLDR Overall this album was a mixed bag, and I recommend Desire Drive (1), Heartfelt Fancy (4), and Sealed Cloud Route (8) If you didn't want to read through the whole thing OK i really can't believe 4 months already passed since this post, (and since I said i was going to catch up). Time really passes super fast when your busy o.o I found a couple of the songs but all the links are broken haha and can't find the album to dl ;; Thanks for the review anyways though On February 26 2015 10:01 JSH wrote:On February 26 2015 03:50 dkpl wrote: jsh so rich

I'm not majoring in music education anymore. It's not that I gave up but I realized a lot of things and it just wasn't the best path for me to take anymore. For example I entered college knowing that if I find it's not for me I can quit the music major route at the music school, and the remaining credits I already got in music could be turned into a more "academic" (without the performance aspect basically, but otherwise the same) music major, and then add another major. I'm now taking Computer Science, so I can have a very flexible outlook in terms of jobs and companies to work out and make games or apps or whatever anything really. I also came into college hoping the music curriculum would be some sort of amazing magic that got me places I couldn't by myself (and so I could be some super competent musician and compose/perform while teaching). Well, it was somewhat true, but basically after taking some classes I knew how to learn further by myself if I wanted to and it wasn't necessary, and that I could just learn things on the side while studying CS instead of education.
So basically everything's figured out and I'm confident I figured out the best possible path considering my interests X)
Hmm, I really like what you said about the 50% tipping point. That'll help motivate me!
Wow, nice insight. Makes sense.
No no, it's totally polished enough to be finished. None of it feels incomplete or weak. And actually, now that I'm using my speakers right now with bass turned up, I'll say there is enough bass. It was just a big hard to hear with my earphones.
Also would you look at the loop count! I doubled it by myself within a day X)
You're right though, even if I'm busy I definitely will keep trying to spend some time every day even if it's a little, or if it's just learning my self better or how to further improve my work ethic or etc. Maybe I'll improve enough by next year that I can break even with the increased workload and have a lot of time for hobbies!
Also with that switch from music education, also came to me rebalancing my music and art interests. I'm now focusing on drawing and 2d animation. Getting back into piano recently after like a year ish break of regular playing. I find now that I learn songs pretty quickly, maybe because I'm more patient and don't have pressure anymore so I don't end up rushing and making mistakes and bad habits.
