It is with great sadness that I report that the Devil Toss is facing a decision that may end is career.
In 2005 Kingdom started taking Gumdo (similar to Kendo) lessons as a hobby and work-out (as oppose to going to the gym like everyone else). As a result he discovered that his arm would often fall out of its socket in the shoulders. As it started to happen more often he started getting treatment.
But the effects were getting worst, and the pain that started from the shoulders eventually came down to his wrist, limiting his practice time. As a result he was unable to practice for long periods of time and started to decline in performance.
In 2007 Kingdom gave over his team leader position to Oov, descended to Team 2 and concentrated on recieving treatment while practicing there. As a result he was able to grasp a proleague win (against Reach) and had even won both games in the first week of minor league, giving fans hope for his return.
But his recent results left him with two agonizing choices. He must either recieve physical therapy or recieve surgery. Treatment through physical therapy would mean he must quit his progaming career, and if he wishes to continue playing he must recieve surgery.
Kingdom will visit his parents and meet with his coaches and managers to discuss his decision.
Kingdom has decided to go through with the surgery. He will be admitted on the 7th, and the surgery date is the 9th. Whether he will be able to continue as a progamer or change professions depends on the outcome of the surgery.
Kingdom's surgery seems to be a success, and he is scheduled to be discharged on January 11th. He will keep a cast on for 2 weeks while he recieves additional treatment and medicine, and on the 3rd week he will removes the cast and begin physcial rehab.
Kingdom's future still relies on the physical rehab and the effects on his wrist. The process will take around 2 to 3 months.
This is sad news He must be going through a really tough time right now. Hang in there Kingdom! I hope that whatever decision he makes, he'll be alright.

Yep, any kind of shoulder surgery and recovery is not an easy process.

While I've always liked the other Protoss Kings more, how can you say no to Kingdom's compelling micro? He gets as much mileage out of his units as BoxeR Oo;
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! KINGDOM TT.TT you are one of my favorite protoss player T.T plz be fine...... wow this sucks soo that explains why he wasnt on proleagues, MSL & OSL lately T.T LONG LIVE THE DEVIL TOSS!!

agreed but put physical therapy instead and hope that the coach will let him do that
Physical therapy helped me with my fucked up ankle a month ago, hopefully he will make the choice to take it slow and recuperate and then come back full force ;]
Surgery is EXTREMELY expensive (at least in the US) unless you have excellent health coverage. And it's also fairly risky. Sometimes the surgery can even do more harm than good. All in all though, it seems like Kingdom will be getting surgery
Thats pretty crazy, gumdo is a pretty hard hitting thing with those wooden swords, god they hurt, especially on the wrist or your ribs if they dont hit the armor in the right spot which happened to me alot. The coolest game I saw from him was that crazy 3 gate against zerg, he fake FE'd by making a pylon in his expansion then he goes all out. He lost but it was still cool.

Yes, but the game was his profession. What is he going to do then?
I'm sure it isn't as cut and dried as decision A he plays, decision B he retires.
He'll make the right decision. A guy like that could have a bright future in other areas of the sport and might be able to give more to the game as a coach or broadcaster.
Best wishes for health and happyness to the devil toss.

Yeah, my guess is getting surgery doesn't guarantee he can play again either. He'll STILL have to do physical therapy after surgery, anyways.
I couldn't give a damn about his career atm. He's one of the Protoss greats and because of that to me, all that matters is he takes the treatment which will give his injury the best respite possible. If that means he has to leave his progaming career, so be it. He's fucking awesome, whether or not his career ends he and I'd rather see him happy and healthy than watch his health decline because he felt pressured to keep going.
Mind you, this also works in reverse. GL Kingdom, no matter what happens.

Training parts of your body, mostly unused or damaged/healing parts like in Kingdom's case. This takes a lot of time, amongst others because it connects motor-driven actions to your brain. You have to re-learn some basic movements. Sometimes you need massages and all that if your muscles/bones aren't well-coordinated after the surgery. Even if you're "cured" you may still feel pain, which - in a bad case - can stay forever.
Stories like this make progaming a thing worth following.
It's incredible how he still found the strength to even play broadcasted given his injury. Surgery or not, I hope he chooses the right way to go. Regardless of his choice, his name is already among the "memorable faces of progaming" and his memory will live on. Kingdom fighting!
omg kingdom The reason made him stick with Kendo was said by him that: "If you were tired of the start, you couldn't succeed in anything and that's why made me more fun to control Zealot"

Considering Kingdom couldn't reach his limits for years because of his shoulder things can only get better when he starts training. Give him 10 months and he may prove all pessimists wrong. I believe in him, he's a strong player with an even stronger mindset.
