Actually the case of TY is exception, since WESG prize for first place is 200,000$ (contribute 66% of his 2017 earnings), make him the highest earning pro gamer. But I agree that sc2 is still one of the top esports in terms of earning. To prove that, I look at the median earnings of top players in dota 2 and sc2. In my opinion, when you look at the earning for whole esports game, the better way is to see at the median earning rather than the top player's earning.
