I don't know if it's really comparable. TY is really good atm, close series in a tournament don't really change that imo.
Zest was in a pretty big slump back then iirc

He didn't get into GSL and he was stumbling around a bit in Proleague. But the way their tournament runs played out are eerily similar.

I see where you are coming from, still think Zest's win was an actual upset and TY winning it isn't really.

Now, when is this thread getting updated with the heaps of tournaments that TY have been winning lately?

Teared up for the second time because of TY winning a premier tournament. Whatever people might say about WESG, they can't deny the biggest IEM event of the year. TY's undeniably a champion now, a legit champion.

All the heartaches we'd gone through being TY fans in the past year are now just part of an epic journey that includes watching him lift trophies almost as big as him :D

While i think that even WESG was very legit considering the stacked korean qualifier and now IEM was obviously legit as well, i am still hoping that he will win a starleague this year. It's just worth even more (not in money ofc)

Gratz TY!!!

After so many years not winning anything -and for a long time not being even close!-, suddenly he finds himself owning 300k in the span of a few months.

A lesson for us all to never give up. And such a pleasure to watch him go thru the journey

Other than Blizzcon, IEM Katowice is like the only tournament that I'd say isn't worth less than a win in a Korean league.

Hm nah both are worth less simply because the lvl of competition OVERALL isn't the same. That doesn't mean that the roads are more easy necessarily, but in a GSL there are simply more players who could win the thing, etc.

That being said i obviously still think this is great for TY Just wanna see him win a GSL/SSL as well ^^

Sad that no starcraft player can actually keep that title though haha

Katowice has the top of the Korean scene and the top of the foreign scene compete against each other. Not all of them, but most. GSL has the entire top of the Korean scene, but also a good portion of players you could replace with foreigners to make the tournament harder.

And yeah DOTA hands out millions of prize money, no chance he stays #1

They used to until Valve decided they wanted Dota to be big and dumped about a billion dollars a day into prize pools

I mean the differences might be less than for other weekend tournaments but i still think it's not equal overall.
We should be able to agree on the part that we want him to win a starleague though no matter what, no ? :D

Yeah dota is crazy. A few years ago that esportsearnings site was actually kinda usefull, now it's a bad joke

The only thing we'll ever agree on because you refuse to agree to anything else.

So awesome watching TY play, the guy is just so damn smart with everything he does.
And after all those ten long years of struggle, he's fucking rich. $300,000 in 3 months!

Not everything else Top korean players missing at these events simply makes it less valuable in my book. But sure the difference might be negligible overall and i am just a bit pedantic, could be the case
