First of all: a transgender, in the very broad sense of the word, is someone who has a specific sex (a certain biological status; 'female' or 'male'), but has a different gender, i.e. he or she feels like she is the other gender than the sex she/he has. Being a transgender sucks. There is nothing else to say about it. For those who you who do not understand, let me put it this way. Imagine you are stuck in a girls body, while being a guy. You do not want to hang out with the guys. You are literally a guy - you just like the physical body parts. Imagine that all the time all the guys can stand up and pee, and you have to sit down. But note that you don't start out like this. Oh, no; society has always recognized you as a girl. They expect you to act like a girl, where female clothing, maybe even start dating a guy. And all the while: you are a guy. Can you imagine how that's like? I have not experienced it myself, but I am pretty sure it sucks. If you have a hard time picturing this, try this. You are a very talend starcraft 2 player. You can probably be one of the best foreigners. You have all the skills you need. However; you have to be dishwasher. Everyone expects you to be a dishwasher. If you even start talking to people that you might want to be a starcraft player they will probably look very weird at you. They will consider you to have a 'mental disease'. (Transgender is still, if I am not mistaken, classified as a mental disease.) And you are not really sure. You know it's abnormal that you want to be a starcraft 2 player. Etc. Does this sound awful to you? Now imagine that in order to really become a sc2 player, you have to go through a long surgery, all kinds of psychiatrists, etc. So really, being a transgender sucks big time. So for all the *I am really censoring myself here* who think they are tough or whatever and want to keep calling Scarlett a 'he' because she might (or might not) have the physical body of a guy, is like saying to the dishwasher: 'Fuck you, you will never be a sc2 player, and I will always consider you to be just a dishwasher, and you will never be anything else'. I hope this clarifies why it's a fucking douchebag move to keep calling her a he. I won't go into analyzing Scarlett (I have neither the expertise, nor the ambition, nor anything of the sort) I hope she can be happy the way she is and I hope SC2 and the SC2 community can help her with that. Let's not, however, think we can replace actual friends and family. Given the way we, as a community, have responded to the haters, I think we are doing pretty good. She can be my Pimpernell any day of the week. <3

Note: I am not a transgender, but are relatively close to someone who is. Everything I know comes from this person and her experiences.) You've pretty much nailed down what the last few years have been like for S. If she wants to talk more about it, that's her call, but she is very shy (not just in the SC community) and would probably much prefer that we all talk about her play [though I think ultimately it is important the community supports her in what is going to be a rough ride down a rough road. The SC2 community has been simply incredible, much better than we even hoped, but a lot of the world is much less open minded. You folks are completely awesome.] Back to being a lurker now!

In the end of the day she has to be really strong to live a life that certanly will be allot harder because of other people that prefer to offend her then life their own life or change what's so fucking wrong with theirs. Haters gonna hate I guess.. I'm a normal straight guy from good old Portugal so yeah I could probably call you a bunch of names and be really negative or be a nice normal guy and wish you luck like you deserve. I opened up tl.net saw your picture and tought "who is this? is it a girl? what did she do?" checked the iview, then the results and caught a few games of yours and now i'm a fan. You smashed some faces and did what many seasoned foreign players can't, win games! So yeah good luck and I hope you are strong enought to keep improving and be happy, that's what's most important! live and let live!

It's a shame this is an issue right now but kind of inevitable that it's brought up. Hopefully in a month or two everyone will have educated themselves/gotten over it to the extent that it's not an issue any more ![]()

Her personal life is her own. Let her keep that. Pay attention to the important thing. We have another North American player with a lot of raw talent, who has had little to no training, and is taking games off top level pros. This is exciting. Bottom line is she posted amazing results and played amazing games. That's impressive any way you look at it.
