Maru could be the highest skilled player beside serral, but he's severely lacking in mind games. Maybe because he's so skilled and won 3 GSL, he thinks whatever he does will guarantee a win in the end. I don't know.

But in all these years, I watch Maru play. Players who understand how Maru think and play usually can usually win against him. Rogue, sOs and Parting (back in the days) for example. He's just too stubborn on the aggressive play. When he's tilted, he will default to even more aggressive play.

I don't think that current balance gave him the opportunity to make it. It's easy for you to say things you have said. And you can repeat it ten times. Without a woe in your head. I don't see "Wise" or the "Depths" in comments. It's gonna be good if the balance issues will be fixed soon.

I think Maru massively overrated sOs then, sOs could never beat Maru in standard play, only by hard countering every single move he had a chance.

Maru is a very different beast from Serral, while he can macro like a god, usually he takes many risks in his games, but Serral 90% of the time relys on his clean, stable no risk games.

If anyone knows sOs, shouldn't it be Maru? I'm sure he's played sOs standard many times in practice. sOs may just have his number. Maru seemed tilted almost from the get go.

In any case, I hope Maru can bounce back for next year.

Serral plays super defensively and just tries to outlast his opponent. Zerg can win like that because they have the strongest lategame currently, but Terran can't. Maru has to play very active and aggressive in order to win and you saw sOs take advantage of some habits he identified in Maru's play. sOs has great solo preparation and against aggressive players he will (with a couple exceptions) always shine because aggressive players take risks. Terran has just been directly/indirectly nerfed in the lategame too many times.
