But to be no.1 you better have some GSL results (or trophies, even). And the protosses who do well at GSL always tend to pull out an all in or two every series. I've only seen hero cheese in PvP. Yeah yeah, I know, it's surprising how less mechanical players can get better results than Hero. There's obviously "soft ceiling" that once you hit it, you're able to pull off wins. As Hero keeps transcending this barrier, we will have to see if he pulls the curve higher along with him, or if luck will keep trumping skill.
Luck isn't trumping his skill. HerO has some weird nerve issues that MANY athletes have. When you're in a game that matter, your brain shuts off. It's weird but it holds back so much talent. The only real way to get around this is to keep playing in tournaments. I think HerO should play in like every online tournament and a lot of offline tournaments to get the experience.
His mechanics are by far the best in the world. When he and PuMa play, their mechanicly sound styles both work well together and make it such an interesting game. Never a build order win, the player who plays better always win.

He's got a lot of chops in that respect but there are some who trump him in pure mechanical goodness.

i actually agree, heor should do some really timing based all ins. he seems to always stretch it out to a macro game, refusing to just kill his opponent. mix some 7gate blink stalker all ins etc.

It's not only nerves, his play isn't really crisp/refined, or at least doesn't look like it. When i watch him play, it looks aesthetically nice and pleasant to watch, but it looks like he doesn't follow a gameplan. He builds a warp prism and then looks what he can do with it for instance.
Watch Genius vs DRG today, and you clearly see a difference in terms of preparations / approach between the games Genius showed and the games we often see Hero play. That's obviously something he can improve, and something he should, because as many said, his fundamentals are really really good and right up with the best.
I hope he can use his potential to show good results in Korea, because he has a lot.

He does seem to be more of a reactionary player that completely changes gameplans along the way to counter whatever his opponent is doing instead of "sticking to his guns". Or maybe he just doesn't have guns to stick to. watching his stream, he never seems to do the same thing, but i guess that's acceptable since it is a stream and not exactly like a "super rigorous practice routine", where he refines builds.

That sort of preparation is only in the GSL. hero does prepare builds in it but he doesn't play a whole lot in the gsl.
genius vs drg is also a case of teammates.

Define what you mean by crisp/refined? Because every time I watch HerO play, his builds are always executed crisply and cleanly and his mechanics are top notch... how is his play not refined? HerO LOVES the lategame. Just because he doesn't all in so that he can get jiving into his comfort zone doesn't make his play not crisp or refined
