HerO's group is playing on Friday December 23rd. He is in a group with three zergs, July (vP 23-19), Luvsic (vP 5-2) and Yugioh (vP 8-3), one Terran, Clide (vP 11-16) and one fellow Protoss, JYP (vP 16-7). So one member of Startale, two from oGsTL, two SlayerS and JYP who is currently not with a team since departing TSL. HerO's matchups are as follows: On Antiga Shipyard vs. ![]() On Daybreak vs. ![]() On Daybreak vs. ![]() On Crossfire SE vs. ![]() On Calm Before the Storm vs. ![]() Overall HerO has to feel good about his map selection. The really bad Protoss map he has to play on, Crossfire SE, is where he meets the only other Protoss in the group so that is a wash. Facing Clide, whose TvP is not his strongest, on Daybreak seems like a pretty good deal, as is it to be facing the three Zergs on Antiga, Daybreak and Calm Before the Storm respectively. As far as his competition, Clide is really the only one who has a relatively weak matchup versus Protoss. Yugioh, Luvsic and JYP all have their strongest matchup be versus Protoss while July's vP is his middle ground, having strong results versus Terran but atrocious results in his mirror. The only official game HerO has had against any of his fellow Group E players was against Yugioh in the second round of last GSL Code A October, where he lost 1-2 having taken the lead after winning on Terminus RE but losing on Tal'Darim Altar and Dual Sight. In that season, Yugioh went on to make it through the Up and Downs, getting his first season of Code S where he ended up being picked first at the group selection by his teammate MMA in rather amusing circumstances. As far as the opposition's recent performances against Protoss, July went down to Code A due to losing two times against Puzzle in Code S group C. He then beat Genius 2-0 before losing the round of 24 against Fin 2-0 as well. Meanwhile, Clide lost his first map of his Code S group against HuK, going down to Code A where Parting beat him 2-0 in the round of 32. Luvsic ensured his participation in the Up and Downs by beating HongUn in his first round of Code A 2-1 and JYP similarly beat SaSe 2-0. I think it is fair to say that HerO was not very lucky with his group in terms of the competition, facing three players whose best matchup is versus Protoss and only one for whom Protoss is his least favoured. This fact of course is mitigated to some extent by the map draw, where he was granted two matches on Daybreak while avoiding such maps as Bel'Shir Beach and Dual Sight altogether and getting Crossfire given to him for his only mirror of the day. I suspect that HerO stands a reasonable chance of getting through in terms of his skill level versus his opposition in general. The only game where he might be outclassed is versus JYP, whose PvP is excellent whereas HerO's looks suspect a lot of the time in tournaments. He got nice macro maps against all the Zergs, and while it is very likely that at least one will try to cheese him at least the map will not come to their aid. Of course, the only Terran he faces will be Clide, whose TvP has been a flaw and whose only recent win versus a Protoss was against his former and then teammate Killer in a very cheesy game indeed in Code S October. A lot will hinge on the preparation for the specific maps and players. If HerO is able to play to his strengths and stay safe in his there vZ games, he will be in very good shape to enter 2012 with a Code S spot. On the other hand, I am quite fearful that the combination of his own nerves and the opponent's specific strategies might prove for another season starting in Code A. Fingers crossed as always. Being played on the 23rd, this could prove to be a slightly early Christmas present to both HerO and his fans. Liquid fighting. HerO fighting! | ||
