Only Stephano knows why he picked Ryung. Maybe he will reveal his reasons in an interview - it seems something an interviewer could ask a player. I think the Spring Arena 2 is pretty stacked with tough opponents so no matter the opposition it is going to be a challenge to win.

The picks were done a day or so ago at most.

im fairly sure Ryung is just a walkover for Stephano. while his TvT is decent, his TvZ is quite bad.


He has almost a 76% win rate in international events in tvz. I haven't been following him lately but he's certainly good enough to give Stephano problems and better at tvz than either Idra or Ret is at zvz. Stephano probably just didn't want to play a zvz.


Yeah, he's losing a lot of ZvZs these days - to Nerchio, to Zenio, and doesn't feel comfortable in the match up. ZvP is okay for him, but with Grubby being picked by Oz, ZvT is the next best option.

I think Oz is going to regret picking Grubby, though.

Stephano's group for Red Bull Battlegrounds tournament has been announced. He will face Ganzi, Illusion and Violet!

Some interesting opponents. He has beaten Violet and Illusion before but never faced Ganzi.

I'd like to see the day when he attends a tournament wihout terrible preparation, maybe I'll witness it someday.

But he seems to be doing reasonably well, no matter how few games he plays before tournaments, so it should be okay.

It just makes you wonder how much better his results could be. On the other hand, terrible preparation might be his secret strategy for success.

I got to say, as much as I like Stephano, this is really going too far. How can you play D3 instead of sc2 when your are flying to NYC to attend an mlg arena later this week. He really deserves to get crushed this time around and I think it would be a valuable lesson for him and help his future results too. Sadly he will still place pretty high because he is just too good and I will still be cheering for him :/

I think Stephano does this to make himself feel comfortable while playing. Naniwa said that Stephano doesn't give a sh*t and that's why he's able to play without mental problems. It's not the ideal solution - the ideal solution is to practice hard and to have a great mindset - but it's what allows Stephano to play well with less practice.

Is that true? It's pretty awesome if so. I think Stephano has the best multitasking of any zerg, so perhaps that was one of the things about Stephano's play that impressed him.

Lazy genius thats Stephano. But its really hard to ask him to practise more when he got such insane result. But I would love to see a Korean hardworking 12hour paintrain Stephano. Maybe soon!

It's true his results in the two most recent online tournaments he won were pretty damn impressive, IMO, even if there were just foreigners there. He also won the MLG qualifier. His only misstep recently was losing 2-0 to Zenio, who is one of the best zvz players in the world. From his perspective, he's probably like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it (which isn't unreasonable).

I would also love to see him buy a ticket on the Korean "pain train"; alas, I think he's already bought his first class luxury ticket on the EU express, which runs three hours a day, on a good day, and does not punish its passangers with hard work

From his match history it seems like he played around 60 games the last 10 days and i don't think he played that little before ipl4 or mlg.

I know that right after his one week vacation he won the mlg invite only qualifiers and the other mini tour but he is pushing his luck with that amount of practice.

Interesting that Polt pulled out of Red Bull tournament. If he had not he would have been in Stephano's group! Instead Stephano has to face Illusion.

It's funny to see fans complaining about Stephano's work ethic when he has one of the best work ethic in the world : train regularly, train efficiently. Wonder why Koreans live in house ? That's because they need peer pressure to keep training. Stephano came at the top alone, carrying his own weight and not giving a fuck like the baller he is. Doubting him now is laughable. He may not have the best tournament ever but he is no slouch.
