@MillStephano
Sorry, i played really bad on that last game against MMA
don't be sorry, you're still best foreigner
and you'll get better since you're only 19 and won't stop for years!

Hope he can cope with that loss he has just not so much practice with a terra like mma (mma >> polt in tvz). Or it could backfire and make him even more lazy because he wouldn't have to win that many tournaments to get money. Actually, he practices atleast 5-6 hours a day, i don't know why do they always say that he doesn't practice at all.

You don't - he is too greedy for you to enter late game vs. him without doing damage early game. Do damage, and there's a lot you are able to do vs. his drop heavy style - get a handful of mutalisks, corrupters, spines & spores, etc. It's not his style that's killing people, it's his unpunished greed.
Terran has straight-up better unit efficiency than Zerg. This means Zerg has to mine higher resources to beat Terran. When Terran mines the same resources, well, that's unwinnable right there.

srly stephano should be getting paid by western tournaments just to show up since he is the only foreigner that can compete with code s koreans

Players who have beaten MMA before either cripple him early, get almost too much defense at expansions, or capitalize on random mistakes... Guy has TvZ figured out.

so the right decision stephano could`ve made was a strong attack in early game
i think its similar to what he did against polt in some games, idk why he didnt do this time

He already commited to lings and roaches but he backed out and droned behind it meaning weak hive transition, you just cant make middle calls like that vs the best tvzer.

Stephano showed his worth
someone will pay enough "to the bank" to make him stay
:D

Too bad for Stephano but I am proud of his tournament. MMA and Nestea are legends of SC2 so no shame in losing to them two.
I think this tournament showed Stephano is S-Class level player beating Curious, Bomber and JYP and taking games from MKP and Nestea before going down to MMA. Not good enough to beat MMA today but overall an extremely impressive showing.
Another $4000 into the winnings pot for Stephano. Hopefully this will enough to encourage him to continue into next year.
As stated before hopefully Stephano can get some more Terrans to give him good practice partners and improve against Terran. Beating Polt, Bomber and Puma recently shows he is damned good at ZvT currently, even without dedicated anti-Terran preparation.
Don't forget Stephano is starting his NASL 3 run in a few days! He is in Group A along with Puma, Hwangsin, Cloud, TT1, Brat_OK, Zenio, Haypro, and NightEnd. Good luck to him.

This is his last year probably, as he is going to school. Unfortunate but good for him.
Don't sign me up as a fan though, don't want to be associated with people like Zealot Orgy.

When he was in highschool he stated low amounts of training - and this reputation stuck to him :D

I hope taking 5th/6th place in the most stacked tournament (beside GSL, and still...i'm wondering) will make him take the decision to continue playing SC2 !
Btw, here are Stephano opponents for NASL season 3 :
Division 1 . PuMa - . HwangSin - . ClouD - . TT1 - . Brat_OK - . Zenio - . HayprO - . NightEnD - . Stephano -
Stephano needs to be top5 to get to the next step, or top2 to directly go to the championship sunday (that will happens sometimes in July).
Should be doable EZ PZ. PuMa would be the hardest opponent but Stephano 3-0ed him recently at Assembly so..

He has to show up for the games first, though.
None of those opponents are very hard for him. Puma, Cloud, and Brat_Ok are capable of upsets, while Zenio and Haypro aren't half-bad at ZvZ. But he's the favorite against all of them. Taking Top 2 in his group gives him a very good shot at the NASL finals, which is good money. I want to see him do it one last time before he retires - win a big tournament, and with NASL being filled with foreigners it's doable - provided he focuses and doesn't forfeit games.

I am so much more of a fan of Steph after this event! I'm going to really enjoy watching Stephano for as long as he continues to play. :D:D:D:D

He said on SOTG that he typically practices 5-6 hours a day but then last week in an interview the TL guy he said that he practices around 3 hours a day and will, if he's streaming, play a little longer (5 or 6) hours, so who knows. (He said to ask Bling if his interviewer didn't believe him about his practice schedule.) Checking his history leading up to IPL he was practicing on average probably around 2 hours a day; there were a few days where he didn't play at all. His results given his practice schedule are completely amazing IMO.
|
He could be nr.1 if he actualy took the game seriously. Not training at all before a tournament like IPL and no 30 ladder matches /= training. Not studying his opponents, at least those top 10 he knew he would play agaisnt /= serious desire to win etc. Not to mention his forfeit drama in Ironsquid, he could have played MMA and that could have made the difference between them at IPL. He showed how easily he can completly outclass the best koreans in the world, look at his win wth mkp, his weird and unffective game decisions ( 2 time ultra tech fail vs mkp) which where flawless in previous tourneys he won. He could have roflstomped all koreans in this IPL except Nestea maybe, he was phenomenal.
|
@meggiroth: there are several reasons for going ultralisks in zvt instead of broods, he even stated in the interview with khaldor that he was afraid of mkp's dropplay and therefore didn't want to go for broodlords ->see stephano vs mma game 1, no chance to catch all those drops with broodlords
Furthermore Stephano has already shown that ladder games are good training after all, recently even some koreans (for example taeja) have stated that their training is mostly ladder + It always turnes out rather poorly when zergs study their opponents and prepare sniping tactics since the terra could just unexpectedly slightly change his bo and it doesn't work anymore...
Imo Stephano forgot the baneling nest in game 1 vs mma, it looked like his typical roach-bling all in against terran(also executed against mkp in game 1 and three, both times rather succesful) just with banelings which are definitely required to bust the front door and destroy the bunkers, he was pretty far behind from that point(44 to 46 workers favouring mma + mules for him) sadly casters didn't really point that out so all the clueless people will never accept it and say that stephano got outclassed in the lategame by mma in fact he got far behind in the midgame in both of the games
