In the NASL Season 4 Qualifiers, QuanticSpanishiwa takes down Incontrol, SlayersMin and Light.SeoHyeon only falling to the eventual winner SlayersArthur in the Semifinals.
who dat chick. and sign me up as well, even though I'm protoss, it's really nice to see creative players who are dedicated to change the "broken" metagame.
He has a lot of potential, I think. His macro is solid and his micro (fungals, infested t bombs, queen defense) is pretty impressive. He admits himself that he doesn't know how to defend cheese. Given that his build is pretty greedy, he's going to get a lot of practice. ;-)
I wonder if the answer to cheese is purely a question of how defensive to get. Spines supported by queen transfusions are ridiculously strong. Whether it is possible to reliably defend cheese without getting economically behind due to the spines and queen investments, I have no idea.
Gotta love watching Spanishiwa opening so many doors for the Zerg metagame while other top players struggle with more standard doors.
Although some scoff that his builds may end up being dead ends, I have faith that if there were to be a Zerg revolution in the metagame, Spanishiwa would be at the forefront leading with radical new discoveries.
He changed his name to vileSpanshwa because he needed vile in his name and could only use 12 characters because of blizzard naming system. further more that is obviously a fan in the op, not spanishiwa .
A zerg friend of mine turned me on to his stream some time ago. I just love watching spanish play! As a terran player I often watch vileHasHe play and it is always hilarious when he runs into spanish on ladder. Definitely looking forward to spanish making some big waves in the NA scene. You rock spanishwa!
Sign me up too. Love his style, saw some awesome games between him and ROOT.Destiny streamed earlier. Edit: Just announced, Spanishiwa on Day9 daily wednesday :D

He is really really good, utilizes a variety of unique styles, and is pretty funny to boot.
this guys gameplay speaks for itself. is one of the few that makes starcraft 2 look like a STRATEGY game rather than just mechanics (which he is also phenomenal at)

I think he was originally Spanishiwa, but when he joined a team he had to shorten to vileSpanshwa to stay within character limits for names.
I love how baller calm Mr. Spanishiwa is. Day9 is throwing all these situations at him and he had a solid answer that Day9 simply couldn't argue with. He's so dang calm, it makes him a lot of fun to watch and he's very easy to respect as a player.
Cruncher would have destroyed him that game had he not wasted his DTs attacks on a hatch that would eventually be transfused resulting in exactly NO damage!
Sign me up! It's like someone finally understands the way zerg is supposed to be played. I'm not trying to take anything away from the current zerg gods (who I still watch and get inspired by), but Spanishiwa's playstyle just seems so "right". It's aggressive, macro-based, mobile, unorthodox, and, all in all, just "swarmy". Always keeping the opponent on the back foot, because he could be anywhere at any time. I look forward to watching how the zerg community adapts based on Spanishiwa's success.
ontopic; I woke up today and checked Day9's bliptv, the VOD is up if you missed it. I loved how day9 was so enthralled with this style of play. Spanishiwa does not act/sound 17!
Opening post should include a link to his ZvX thread here on Teamliquid. Because it is a quality thread. Also he tells you exactly what he does and why.
So so good, so entertaining. Long games, short games, unique openings, crazy micro battles, base trades. And a nice interview to top it all off. Fuck, that showmatch had it all. One of the most entertaining series I've seen recently!
Great job against minigun! I've seen a lot of people say your style isn't viable at high level play, and equally, I've heard a TON of people raving about Miniguns play. Hopefully that will silence a few of the haters!
So unfortunate for losing that metalopolis game. That game really demonstrates the unfairness of FF ramp blocks. How the heck could spanish have defended that?
I was pretty interested in Spanishiwa after hearing about his play from Day9 and just about every commentator, but when I dropped by his stream. And I asked some questions. And he answered my questions. On the stream. I became a fan. <3
I am in. I have been toying with style for awhile, but Spanishiwa, being a much much MUCH better player than I has really done a great job mastering it.
I was watching the series vs Minigun on Justin.tv some time last night, but I can't seem to find it today to watch the rest of it. Can somebody help me out? I need to check out the last 3 games or so :D
I would really love to see Spanishiwa's build in the hands of some other top ranked players, especially in ZvP since that seems to be the most publicized to be the hardest match up
A little comment (re-worded) from IdrA during a game when he didn't realize he was still streaming; he'd been trying out this build, but it hasn't been working well vs. an unmolested (Protoss) fast expand.
On April 17 2011 19:02 frucisky wrote: DId you just see the ZvP on the stream? Amazing!! Spanish will be the best zerg player if his macro was a lil better.
Maybe the game is going towards the scbw mind set, where you're kind of either a macro player or a micro player. It requires sick multitasking to keep up with constant aggression and making the most out of your units, at the same time as you're injecting larvae and building stuff.

Making all of his units work for him, kind of like a Sweatshop Zerg? Maybe he's a fan of Losira's. =p
Alright, I am thoroughly impressed with this guy after watching his stream. I'm convinced he is the forerunner for the evolution of Zerg. Please, sign me up.
I'm not a big fan of his opening build per say, but I absolutely love his multi-pronged nydus worm aggression, infestor usage, and baneling shenanigans.
I´m really curious about whether or not he´s going to be a staple of the scene. He just needs to even some kinks out, that´s probaby going to take some time, since he cannot ask anybody how to play his own style better.
On April 21 2011 16:59 travis wrote: been watching him a bit damn he's actually pretty good when hes playing well
He was even pretty good when he was just doing Day9s monday funday... well, except he lost to CombatExs cannon rush into cannon rush into 4gate, but well, it's not fair when you can not build any roaches or hydras and just a neglible amount of zerglings.
I'd say with some more practice with the vile guys and more interesting innovations he could become a name in the scene similar to TLO (Meaning he wouldn't need success to get fans, just be fun to watch).
I randomly found her on tumblr a few weeks ago and asked, linking the pic and she confirmed, but I had forgotten all about it until now. She has some nice body modifications ^ - ^
She doesn't post too much personal stuff though, so I hope I'm not helping out any e-deviants with this
Sign me up! His style is awesome! His spines and queens are the buisness in the front, with all that crazy econ is the party in the back. It's essentially a zerg mullet. And a mullet is always in style.
I absolutely love this guy's play. He never ceases to amaze me. I hope he qualifies for some major tournaments and gets to showcase how intelligent he is.
Does it say a lot to anyone else that at the age of 17, Spanishiwa is able to 4-0 a player who is considered one of the most creative players out there (TLO)? Everyone has heard of Spanishiwa's build, yet with all his creativity even TLO was unable to break it in a bo7 ZvT!
This guy has so much talent and potential, I really hope he goes pro so we can see Tastosis' casting of his extremely exciting and creative playstyle when we wins the GSL!
Even considering TLO being in a slump or being unused to the playstyle of Spanishiwa... a fantastic job getting a 4-0 on TLO. Spanishiwa showed being able to do a number of variations on his core framework, demonstrated that he is able to beat TLO whether TLO applied fast pressure or a fast expand, and was fairly close to handling even the infamous 6 rax strategy which TLO used to defeat IdrA.
Excellent work so far, Spanishiwa, and I'm certain we all look forward to seeing you in the future!
spanishiwa is a by definition, a "nerd baller". much respect to you dude keep up the good work. you showed people they didnt need roaches hydras corruptors to beat protoss; among other things of course. spanishiwa shows that you can play sc2 as zerg however the fuck you want. even if its unconventional. so thanks for the inspiration spanishiwa! keep on doing your thing we all love it.
a side note: spanishiwa was answering streamer questions and was asked if idra would ever adapt his playstyle. he said no of course not. just yesterday nasl was interviewing idra about the way he played one of his games and he admitted he borrowed some of his ideas from our spanish hero. just thought id share that. and iDope, dunno if you're trolling or misinformed but hes 17. or at least in highschool still. try not to tell people what to do or fix something off of erroneous facts. ^_^

lol sorry about that. didnt mean to come off as snobby but yeah i recall him saying at the least he's still in high school. >.< and yes spanishiwa is the man with the plan. so we share common ground there! lol
well in my personal experience, spanishiwa has demonstrated that "the norm" and "standard" are nothing more than words. they're useful words dont get me wrong. but the amount of clout they used to hold in my perspective on the game influenced the way i played strongly. like getting speed first thing every game for example. i always felt obligated to pickup ling speed with my first 100 gas. but thats not always the best choice in situations. another thing i used to consider necessary was a mid game zvp composition based on heavy roach play. but that isnt always the best choice either.
i could give more general examples too. nydus for instance was considered an all in tactic. baneling drops were used almost exclusively en masse against protoss, with less emphasis on utilizing them for worker harass. the entire build hes showcased; while its beatable and not always the best build one can do in part because all builds have exploitable factors in their game design mind you. is still an inspiration to play the game how i want. and from there i've noticed my plays more diverse and adaptable.
i joined a lobby my friend was in on a whim yesterday and the low and behold spainishiwa was playing tQWannaBe. the following game ensued. http://bit.ly/iKnCkb i was thrilled to spectate this game live needless to say. and it only solidified my love of this kids playstyle. i didnt want to bother him in game afterwards so i felt the need to show some love here on his fanpage. spainishiwa fighting!
I'm in on this, started using his build on ladder yesterday, really good stuff.
As for his age, it says on the clan site not only that he is 27, but that he was born 1983. 17 -> 27 might be an easy typo to make, but to make a typo of 1993 into 1983 on the same page? Sounds amazing to me.

christ, I guess some people will just keep asking the questions that have been asked before, indefinitely. It says 27 on the site, yes, and it was entered that way because apparently entering anything under 18 doesn't work on that site according to him. He's fucking 17. Drop it
NO! Watching a really fun game on his stream, spanishiwa went 8 barracks all in/no tech versus a zerg about 20 minutes ago and it was exceptionally close.
And then my internet died. who won!?
Stream died just as the zerg started burrowing roaches after the first push failed

His account name is Spanishwa because Spanishiwa doesn't fit. Also if you read the OP more closely, you'll notice he does type out Spanishiwa unless he's specifically referring to the character name.
What a great performance at MLG Raleigh, getting to ONE ROUND AWAY FROM CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET PLAY before losing to a solid Demuslim. Huge leap for him for LAN success, so impressed on his second LAN event.

Oh ok, but why not use name the OP "Mr. Spanishiwa's Fanclub"? Seems to make more sense..
I can't believe he listens to Burial and Kode9 and plays it over his stream. Officially my favorite player. Much better than idrA playing terrible brostep over his stream. SIGN ME UP!!!
Even though you may have been eliminated, take comfort in the fact that you have advanced further than players like Tyler, Jinro, Puzzle, Ganzi, Destiny, Sc and Oz. That's 3 code S players. Good tournament
Me and Spanishiwa at MLG Providence, don't we look a-like ! :D I got asked "Hey Spanishiwa can I get your autograph?" about 3 times when I was at MLG Great guy
So, I was looking over some of the results this past weekend...and I see Mr. Spanishiwa has made it to the NASL Qualifier semifinals. Awesome! Gogo, I would love to see you qualified for NASL Season 4.
Good news ^^ I've always been keeping an eye, hoping he would come back but I thought it wouldn't be till summer at the earliest. Can't wait to hear what it is!

Met him at MLG Anaheim this year, he's focusing on school now. He was just a spectator there and did not sign up for open brackets.
he is streaming again! tuned in to his stream yesterday, barely anyone watching and he is currently in diamond (i guess he needs some time to get his game back on). he told me he was going to stream every weakday for a year, so if you are interested make sure to tune in.
great news my friends, i am a member of the illustrious NA Grand Master League. come catch my NA GM games on stream for another 48~ weeks :D. I streamed ~90 hours in Sept.
