I guess its somewhat understandable considering he wanted to be The Best before.

Yeah, he really doubts himself. To bad. Would be an epic comeback.

Agree, he was so good at one point, when he made ro8 in GSL and everything. Sadly he seems to be fairly toxic in real life as well, makes it difficult to cheer for him.. I was not aware of that blog entry and am taking it with a grain of salt. Nonetheless kind of a sad read. \Ironically I'm writing this while watching NaNiwa stream SC2, so I thought I'd check out the FanClub again.

I loved Naniwa, he was a bit edgy but at that time, Starcraft really needed some personality.

I would say tigerlily is not the most reliable narrator, but Naniwa did have around the same time a now-deleted twitter account that espoused less-than-favorable views on immigrants and what you would expect. But again real-life handling of a difficult situation is different from being edgy on the internet.

He was and still is an inspiration to me for his skill and high game sense. He motivated me to switch to toss and eventually reach masters. I see he is streaming sometimes, but I haven't tuned in much. It's still good to see that he plays though after all this time.

Did enjoy Naniwa’s efforts back in the day, great player. The idea he had any shot to be a Serral level player but for his mentality is a bit off though IMO, no knock to Nani. Nani’s strength was turning up to an event with some new, super tight build that nobody had seen before, his micro was really good too. Serral, or Reynor and Clem after him are just absolute monsters mechanically, which is how the gap to Korea has been bridged. As good as Nani was I don’t think he was as crisp a player as the top Korean Toss players

Sure I mean eventually it tailed off in usefulness but it seemed to me Nani’s huge competitive streak and perfectionist nature was what made him as competitive as he was. Idra was phenomenally good when we consider he was pretty open about not actually liking the game.

He talks about his mentality in the interview and how he hated losing if there was more he could do to prevent it. He was incredibly hard on himself which is a double-edged sword.
