Moons gameplay is between genius and madness, as always.
It's amazing what incredible, unforeseen, impossible moves he pulls, and what stupid, below-bronze mistakes he sometimes does :D
No other player is as interesting as him, that's fore sure.

It's like in WC3 where he once played against Grubby, for some reason spreaded his units individually all over the map (very expansive units) for no apparent reason (they just stood around in nomansland everywhere), lost every single of them for no reason and yet won the Bo3.

Sometimes I have the feeling that his opponents just can't keep up with what weird stuff they're seeing and fall apart just from Moons game beeing as far from standard as it's ever possible :D
When they were introduced, he made a witticism, hoping to be liked. She laughed extremely hard, hoping to be liked. Then each drove home alone, staring straight ahead, with the very same twist to their faces.

Game 1 KiWi did a macro 4gate and expanded behind it. Moon overreacted a bit with I think 6 Spine Crawlers, and ended up behind by ~20 supply but stabilized. KiWi transitioned into Blink Stalkers, while Moon went Mutalisks and even more Spines. KiWi's second push does a lot of Drone kills and damage to Moon's main, but he's expanded to distant locations while pressuring with Mutalisks, so Moon isn't too far behind. He whittles down KiWi's army with Muta+Speedling while fending off DT harass and strong macro.

Game 2 was just crazy. Moon goes macro hatch before taking his third and then opens fast Mutalisks again. He gets map control and just starts expanding. And then keeps expanding. KiWi goes Phoenix to take air control back, but by this point Moon has literally 9 hatcheries, sprawled out across 3/4ths of the map. He goes up to 100 Drones at one point. Moon throws away his maxed Muta+Corruptor ball and then instantly re-maxes with Roach+Hydra+Infestor, loses that, re-maxes with Ling+Ultra, loses that, gets some more Roaches, loses all of those, re-maxes with 3-1 Mutalisks, and forces the win.

Yeah, I felt like I was watching him play NE mirror all over again, just transplanted into SC2 units.

Oh I'm behind? Better build 6x Tree of Life, no problem.

I feel like both Moon and Grubby have always had a somewhat unique perspective on RTS gaming. In WC3, both Moon and Grubby tended to figure out things on their own and had an extremely unique and recognizable playstyle. In SC2, I believe that the reason for their slow progress has been that this method of playing the game, though extremely beneficial in the long run, takes much longer to develop to the level of refinement that someone would have by just doing everything the exact same way as everyone else.

Even though both Moon and Grubby follow the same rough framework sometimes, games like moon vs kiwi showed just how unique Moon is as a player. I know that other people have done the category of style that Moon did in game 2. But not nearly as well. Not nearly as refined, not nearly as intelligently, and not nearly as dominantly. It wasn't a lucky shot and it wasn't just that he expanded 100 times after the game was already won. If you didn't feel the same flavor of brilliance we all remember from WC3, just remember Moon games on Gnoll Wood.

I really feel like Moon is finally getting comfortable. He's shown a lot of sloppy play up until now, but I don't think it would have been nearly as sloppy if he just copied Nestea and the likes. Developing your own unique perspective on how to play the game is always going to take a lot longer and require a lot more time than going with the flow of the normal styles we see.

I think most folks who were not into WC3 got the wrong impression of Moon. Moon isn't the consistent player some seems to think and hasn't been for a long time, he's both crazy and creative and mixes pure brilliance with noobie mistakes. Always have, that's what makes him such an insanely entertaining player to watch.

I'm a fan for life.

We can't forget 2006. In 2006, Moon was essentially the Flash of WC3. The tournament scene actually became somewhat dull for me because it was practically a guarantee that Moon would win whatever tournament he entered.

Ok you're right. But from 2008 to 2010 he's constantly been up and down. Not necessarily in ranking(always floated at top5) but in game play. When you loaded up a Moon replay you never really knew to expect...he could lose horribly to Bly just to stomp all over Sky and Infi in next tournament.
