I feel a need, as a Singaporean myself, to address a number of very severe misconceptions about Singapore and Singaporeans in general. But before I do so, I would like to state, unequivocally, that I, in my heart of hearts, feel that Kelly is an embarrassment to Singapore and Singaporeans in general.
First of all, it is certainly untrue that most Singaporeans speak with that accent, or that it is difficult for Singaporeans in general to learn the language and be proficient at it. It may be true for Kelly, but that is only likely to be because she is not very intelligent, and not of a very high level of education. Singaporeans begin to learn english from a very, very young age. This starts at 6, from kindergarten, and ends, at the earliest, at 16. That is a good, solid 10 years of education. I personally assure any of you Europeans and Americans reading this post that Kelly's level of english is not indicative of the general standard displayed by Singaporeans possessed of better social standing and/or education. In fact, it would, in my opinion, be fairly difficult for anyone, after 10 years of formal education in a language, to speak it at that level. An American person, if forced for 10 years to learn mandarin on a daily basis would surely be able to speak it at a higher level than Kelly speaks english. Further to this, all classes in almost all schools in Singapore are conducted in english, as are trials in court, debates in parliament, and generally anything of importance in our country. There is simply no excuse for someone to be as poor as Kelly is at the english language.
Secondly, and this is not a personal attack on Kelly - I have absolutely nothing against ugly people - but I would like to state that I don't know what the hell kind of Asian girls you Europeans and Americans have been looking at so as to induce you to form in your heads the idea that Kelly is aesthetically pleasing. If any of you ever stop by Singapore, I am willing to wager a dozen drinks of your choosing, at any club or establishment of your choosing, that on any given night in any given club in our fair country, Kelly would not get any attention, male, female or otherwise, whatsoever.
Now I am bound to get a large number of negative responses to my post, but I felt a need to defend foreign perceptions of my people and my country. Kelly is a poor example and a terrible representative of Singapore and Singaporeans. I hope that those of you on this forum who come from other parts of the world are at least somewhat enlightened by this brief post. We do not all speak terrible, FOB english. Most of us are highly proficient at it. We are also not country bumpkins. Our women are also not all ugly. Kelly is quite simply anomolous.
p.s. Dear mods, I am assuming most of you come from Europe or the US. Before you ban me, I would like to invite you to consider the following:
From the European Convention on Human Rights
Article 10 – Freedom of expression
1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises. 2. The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.
and for American mods, from the First Amendment of the US Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I would like to believe that you all believe and wish to uphold the values that your communities hold so dear, and that you will not therefore arbitrarily impose a ban for my post. That is all.

If you guys honestly want e-sports to go anywhere then quit being dicks. No one wants to be labeled with a group of people who are that way so any new comers will just take a look at you and walk away.
If you guys honestly want e-sports to go anywhere then quit being dicks. No one wants to listen to Kelly. The people that "want" Kelly to cast next season have obviously not listened to other casters and are just trying to be "good" people and support the weak. If she continues to be a caster in code A then the quality of code A will just be entirely less than it could be and that would be a huge blunder on GOMs part. You need casters that grab everyones attention in a good way. Not by starting off having 90% of the community hate you.
Let the bitching commence!

Honestly I kind of like Kelly. I'm definitely in the camp of letting her prove herself for a month or so before judgment. Though, is it just me or is it really obvious she's attracted to Tasteless? ^.^

If gaming ever goes mainstream anywhere but Korea, you're the kind of person that's going to no longer be welcome in the community.

Add me to the list, as well.
The first time I heard her cast was with Total Biscuit for IEM Asia, and I thought she did a great job there. She's only gotten better since then.

Sign me up please! My gf finally agreed to watch a VOD of the GSL with me after I told her that there was a Singaporean woman casting it! Thanks Kelly!

It's on Sunday Plus section of Sunday Times. Didn't read it though. Don't see the point in reading such articles

Only in 'Merica (edit: oops looks like he's not 'Merican after all, that's what I get for assuming nationality by behavior ). Just because you can express yourself freely in public space does not mean you can't get booted out of a club for offending the barkeep and the bouncer.
This is not the street this is privately owned discussion forum which can boot you off for any rules they set and this topic clearly states that there is to be no debate in this fan-club threat.
Now to ontopic: I wasn't really fond of Kelly at the beginning but she improved a lot and I really loved it when she made the "you look like travolta" reference after posting in the SC-Scene look-alikes

Kelliiiiii fitiiiiiing I was loafing around in the living room today morning having an internal debate on whether to ladder later. In the end my procrastinating side won over and I decided to relax and read the papers, and promptly choked on my breakfast. KELLY MILKIES? IN MY NATIONAL NEWSPAPER?
I do not have access to any scanner and simply decided to take a (poor) photograph of the article. http://i55.tinypic.com/2i12lbc.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/2nvxkc4.jpg
My thoughts on reading this: 1) Is that journalist some Starcraft II fan lol... Or even a TL member ._. 2) She is being used as an paradigm case to stir up controversy/debates - in the Singapore community - at the Singaporeans' linguistic fluency of English and the foreign community's apparent disability to understand our accent. 3)Kelliiiiii fitiiiiiing, lol poor girl. I have no idea why she is drawing so much flak. I think it's that she doesn't have that synergy of the casting archon duo (not as natural? smooth?) yet, and that is why people are nitpicking at her.
