I feel a need, as a Singaporean myself, to address a number of very severe misconceptions about Singapore and Singaporeans in general. But before I do so, I would like to state, unequivocally, that I, in my heart of hearts, feel that Kelly is an embarrassment to Singapore and Singaporeans in general. First of all, it is certainly untrue that most Singaporeans speak with that accent, or that it is difficult for Singaporeans in general to learn the language and be proficient at it. It may be true for Kelly, but that is only likely to be because she is not very intelligent, and not of a very high level of education. Singaporeans begin to learn english from a very, very young age. This starts at 6, from kindergarten, and ends, at the earliest, at 16. That is a good, solid 10 years of education. I personally assure any of you Europeans and Americans reading this post that Kelly's level of english is not indicative of the general standard displayed by Singaporeans possessed of better social standing and/or education. In fact, it would, in my opinion, be fairly difficult for anyone, after 10 years of formal education in a language, to speak it at that level. An American person, if forced for 10 years to learn mandarin on a daily basis would surely be able to speak it at a higher level than Kelly speaks english. Further to this, all classes in almost all schools in Singapore are conducted in english, as are trials in court, debates in parliament, and generally anything of importance in our country. There is simply no excuse for someone to be as poor as Kelly is at the english language. Secondly, and this is not a personal attack on Kelly - I have absolutely nothing against ugly people - but I would like to state that I don't know what the hell kind of Asian girls you Europeans and Americans have been looking at so as to induce you to form in your heads the idea that Kelly is aesthetically pleasing. If any of you ever stop by Singapore, I am willing to wager a dozen drinks of your choosing, at any club or establishment of your choosing, that on any given night in any given club in our fair country, Kelly would not get any attention, male, female or otherwise, whatsoever. Now I am bound to get a large number of negative responses to my post, but I felt a need to defend foreign perceptions of my people and my country. Kelly is a poor example and a terrible representative of Singapore and Singaporeans. I hope that those of you on this forum who come from other parts of the world are at least somewhat enlightened by this brief post. We do not all speak terrible, FOB english. Most of us are highly proficient at it. We are also not country bumpkins. Our women are also not all ugly. Kelly is quite simply anomolous. p.s. Dear mods, I am assuming most of you come from Europe or the US. Before you ban me, I would like to invite you to consider the following: From the European Convention on Human Rights Article 10 – Freedom of expression 1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises. 2. The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary. and for American mods, from the First Amendment of the US Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I would like to believe that you all believe and wish to uphold the values that your communities hold so dear, and that you will not therefore arbitrarily impose a ban for my post. That is all. User was warned for this post Though I agree with you on the first half, I have to state the obvious - this is a fan club thread. As much as it irks me that eye candy gets attention, that's simply how it works in this world and it's probably saying something about your intelligence if you don't know that by now. All the talk she's getting has nothing to do with the fact she's from your country but simply because she's a chick. And once again, this is a fan club thread... And not to derail this or anything but you really should stay away from law, heh. That stuff you copy pasted does not apply to privately owned establishments. The mods can replace all the posts in this thread with pictures of cocks if they wanted to. They're the ones who are protected because it's their business (or whoever owns the rights to this site). I don't think you said anything worth being banned for, but a donk on the head wouldn't hurt, so here you go -donk-

User was warned for this post I think you are lucky to only get a warning. It's OK to say that "most people in the country speaks English well", but it's not OK to point to her and say "therefore she was dumb or poorly educated". I have never even thought of associating her with your country until you have written this post. I have met tons of highly intelligent Singaporeans before - Kelly is certainly not the first. Please do not think of North Americans as close minded. Kelly is awesome, by the way. Now keep your elitist point of view to yourself.
