This gets asked a lot so I will answer this and hopefully it will act as a go-to for this question. I get a lot of hate because I responded to a lot the negativity and have continued to do more of that responding than I should. Additionally, I have apologized for things publicly which means if a group of people say something enough times I will not only respond but sometimes apologize for whatever they are complaining about. That is a troll gold mine. The only reason a troll says stupid things on a throwaway account is to get a reaction from the target OR those around them. They do this because they want attention, the find it funny and they are usually pretty lonely. Yes I say controversial things. Yes I am really fortunate with the team I am on and the opportunities I am given.. but so are other people. The difference is they are not on shows, don't respond / read community comments and they most certainly don't apologize/react to trolling in any way. The answer is as I move forward I need to do a better job of not responding or acknowledging it at all. This is hard for me because part of what I have grown up doing is being a part of the community (27k posts here.. hello). As I remain and become more of a community figurehead one of the necessary parts of that is becoming more and more inaccessible to the people. Less posting, less responding and pretty much no references at all that I do in fact read/respond. Said that many a time.. and believe it or not I HAVE gotten better about it but I am still not where I need to be on that! Lets do a quick FAQ about this as well! Q: you lose a lot, maybe if you win you'd not have haters? A: False. Everyone loses a lot. Most people lose more, a lot more. If I won more the trolls would have LESS to go on but they would move on to something else. I want to win and have always worked at it but it was never motivated to "stop the trolls" as that is a non-sequitor. Q: Maybe if you were skinny? A: False. Skinny people are awesome but I will never be an awesome skinny dude. Striving to be an awesome gigantic dude atm. Wish me luck.. and protein. Q: People think you are passive aggressive and arrogant, what if you were more direct and humble? A: Yeah I could do that if I was really dumb and not so awesome. Q: Do you hate reddit? (or halo) A: No. Reddit is a part of the same community I love and talk about all the time but it has a cultural difference from TL or other spaces in that it's cool to attack and say the most brash thing in each thread in an attempt to get easy upvotes and draw attention. I get it.. just not what I prefer. I think TL is the better place to conversate and I go to reddit to get a quick pulse on what people think/do. Halo is ok btw.. but the people that play it bring out the troll in ME (irony). Q: Does the trolling bother you? A: Used to! Doesn't at all currently.. very comfortable with myself and where I am going and how I am getting there. The only reason I am addressing this is because it can serve as an educational piece for others soon to go down the same path I have. Think that covers it.. if peeps have q's post em here I will give it some more attention (as needed).

Halo is ok btw.. but the people that play it bring out the troll in ME (irony). I'm a fan, but a lot of what you do has me cringing and shaking my head sometimes. Like you said, sometimes you basically ask for the hate. On the topic of Halo, it is definitely unwarranted and pointless. I started out with e-sports as a Halo and MLG fan back in '06. I've seen how much Halo has grown and thus MLG has grown. I grew into a SC fan from watching it show up at MLG on the tiny stage. A lot of SC fans don't know the history. While all the US SC BW players were playing basically 1 tourney a year, Halo players were on million dollar contracts and had big sponsors. In my opinion, without what MLG did with Halo, and the impact Halo had culturally in the US, SC2 would not be where it is today in the USA and MLG. And I feel like in the position you are now as a prominent person in SC2 and esports in general, you should showing respect and encouraging unity among ALL esports. Not starting retarded twitter feuds against former Halo pros. I get it, Legit made fun of you once, but that doesn't mean you should take shots at the community as a whole every couple months. It literally does no one good. Especially since because of the inherently younger crowd the game draws (FPS, on the Xbox, etc.) most of the fans of Halo don't get that you're trolling. It's like the big bully making fun of the retarded kid on the playground, it's just in bad taste. *english isn't my first lang. Don't know if all the grammar is correct.

LMAO; you make a valid point. But in all seriousness, Halo died as soon as bungie decided close the skill gap by making the game mechanically braindead with H3. I kind of feel bad for that community, it wasn't really in their hands.

Has a promising Halo 4 coming in the Fall or whatever. But I'm comparing it to the state of SC2, which is obviously in the very top or 2nd to the top in esports currently. I wasn't calling Halo fans or the scene ACTUALLY retarded. It was just to provide a common example to show the dichotomy of the situation at hand. I thought people would see the difference.

It's kind of the opposite of the word community. Also, the definition of "figurehead" is a leader or head without any real power, which is the opposite of what you are. ![]()

The point of my post wasn't to "fight for Halo" or anything along those lines. It's just that we should all be secure in our space that we should have to spurn fights with other games in order to feed our own egos or make our games feel superior. There is enough room in esports for everyone. We should respect each other for the contributions we have made to growing esports. Not bashing each other.
